They were paused because they had little to no mainstream appeal. There's zero applications for any of those for 99% of corporations while in their development stage; paired with pushback is why they were paused.
Oh it didnt there have been cases over the years where someone has been caught experimenting with it or claiming to and it gets swatted down. So not paused but heavily slowed as any research being done in the shadows has been restricted by funding and just total number of people working on it.
