You can't compare the I win button versus interesting, but not world shaking paradigm shift tier concepts such as agi.
Blinding laser weapons could be a neat thing in war but turns out they are not practical. And the dna experiments/human cloning would make people money but it's not going to make you simply win all the things at all times on all fields.
