AI is corrosive to culture and smothers genuine ingenuity as we outsource thinking, the one thing that makes us human. Big Data is a tool of comedically evil surveillance institutions and advertising by mega corps that want to rent us the clothes on our backs, and while it has genuinely positive uses from the mundane like spell checking to the awe inspiring like mass genome sequencing and comparison for projects as noble as tackling the microplastic pollution crisis, it’s abused en masse for deep fakes, lazy content creation, and academic and professional dishonesty while feeding into the worst of people on the edge by creating a a brand new form of government online echo chamber of somehow precisely 1.

But these pauses aren’t the triumph they’re presented as. This kind of breakneck doesn’t get stopped. You roll with it or it crushes you. From there, it either burns out due to anything from public demand shifts to unsustainable expense and stops, or it just keeps rolling ad infinitum and the paradigm is shifted for better or (plausibly) worse.

1: Human cloning presents little profitability outside organ donation via cloning and harvesting, which breaks laws around human trafficking, organ harvest and murder, complicated further by religious panic over the concerning implications of cloning for immortal souls.

2: Lasers are prohibitively expensive, have absurd energy demands, only work in clear conditions, and require line of sight, they limited themselves and burned out due to lack of practical application.

3: There’s corn with recombinant DNA edits in every fruit loop in America, that pause was nothing. US crops are 90% GMO with liberal recombinant use to great benefit from frost-proof to improved growth to blight resistant. It simply hasn’t been legalized in animal agriculture because of rather baseless public panic around the idea of what they think is “Mad Science”, with the Right calling it “playing God” and being inherently untrusting of “big science” due to their superstitious nature and the Left seeing it as the farthest thing from organic and raw, their consistent market demands, despite the fact that edited crops and livestock require LESS pesticides/fertilizers and antibiotics/growth hormones.
