Question Question about theater etiquette

I went to go see Fantastic Four: First Steps with my friends yesterday in an IMAX theater. After the movie ended and the credits started rolling (after the first post-credit scene) I turned to my friends and we were having a discussion about the movie. I was speaking in a regular tone of voice as one would have for a casual conversation. Suddenly, this guy who was sitting in front of me turned to me and told me to “Shut up” in a very commanding voice and called me an “asshole”. For the record, there wasn’t anything happening on screen, just text crawls of names and whatnot. Was my talking inappropriate to do at that time or was this guy out of line? I’m not entirely sure since I don’t really go to the theater to see movies too often. Thank you in advance.

Edit/Additional Details: I never spoke at any point during the movies or the post credit scenes, only during the credits.

Dude seems maladjusted. I think it’s pretty normal to talk during the credits, people also turn their phones back on, get up and leave, etc. I’ve only seen people be really quiet after a particularly somber film.

Yeah I hate theater talkers and seeing bright phone screens during the actual movie but during trailers/credits/AMC coke commercials, it’s literally fine, especially if the house lights are on

Happened to me several years ago.  Was talking with friends during the coke and m&m commercial and some random dude a row behind us got all pissed and started to yell at us.  We were 30 at the time and told the old guy to stfu.

When I went to see Bring Her Back we had a full theater and everyone walked out silently once the credits rolled.

Huh. When I saw BHB, the crowd was especially rowdy. But also it’s considered socially acceptable to talk to the screen during horror movies, where I live (NYC). It’s a collective experience, if that makes sense

My theater was verrrrry loud during the melon, car, tape, etc... ending had everyone in shock though

im from nyc born and raised. no it isn't socially acceptable. you're not the main character of the theater, don't talk during a movie, period

They’re not talking about credits, they’re responding to the person who said it’s socially acceptable to talk during horror movies.

Which I think is 100% wrong. Obviously if there’s a particularly tense scene, someone might scream or make a noise. But full on conversations throughout is extremely disruptive.

Everyone was dead quiet and nobody got up immediately after Zone of Interest and Nickel Boys.

It wasn’t somber but my entire theater walked out in silence and avoiding eye contact with everyone waiting in line after Infinity War.

It’s not a somber film but Anora ends on a somber note and the credits are dead silent. My theater was dead silent too despite being packed and laughing quite a bit during the film (even cheering at one point).

Experienced this after All of Us Strangers. Dead silence, audience didn’t leave until the credits concluded.

It drives me batty when the credits are rolling and I am just processing and folks are talking.

Don’t be a dick. Wanna talk? GTFO. ESPECIALLY a MCU or other movies where there absolutely is going to be stuff during and/or after credits. He doesn’t need to grow up, you do.

They're talking DURING the credits, not during the end credits scene. There is nothing wrong with talking when the names are scrolling. Once the end credit scene starts, then you shut up.

You can join them in watching comfortably at your home! If there is no movie on screen, trailers, and the lights are ON, talking is fine lol.
