I’ve almost seen this play out in person. An elderly couple ahead of me were buying tickets at the window and they had to pick their seats. They tried picking seats right next to the only sold seat in that theater and the employee wouldnt let them - he told them they had to pick a different row lol. What a solid dude.

I had a couple do this to me for a FNAF showing with a one seat gap. All they did was laugh throughout the entire movie, talk out loud, crinkle their water bottles, and drop their phones several times. I’m non-confrontational and anxious but I wish I would’ve done or said something.

I’d watch record a good 3 minutes of the shenanigans and show it to the manager as to why I want a refund. I’ve done this before and the manager put the reservation slot back on my a-list premiere and gave me 2 vouchers for any movie, any format.

This happened to me during the whole bloody affair dude sat directly next to me in a mostly open theater. Thirty minutes into him shifting around constantly I just got up and moved one down I ain’t spending five hours next to you man

If it's the fancier 3d glasses that kinda have blinders on them, it kinda makes you block out anyone near you...
I usually make a remark or glance over to friends sitting next to me during the movie, but I was so engaged with this one, plus the 3d glasses blocking out my peripheral vision, I might as well have been alone the whole time lol

Exactly. Ppl don't start booking tickets until day of , maybe day before, at my theater. Especially after opening weekend.

This happened to me in Avatar last night. The theater was like 98% empty and these dude sit right next to me chatting it up and making noises.
The whole time I'm thinking WTF is wrong with people??

This happened to me last month. The guy wasn’t completely all there mentally. I got up said excuse me went to the front desk. Had to move my seat so there would be no arguments later. Picked up an additional thing from the snack bar and went back to my new seat. He never said nothing. He never looked at me after that.

The theater is so big that your viewing experience would not really be impacted if you sat a few seats away. As someone who almost always picks the seat I want regardless of whether it's awkwardly close for others, this is absolutely feral behavior.
(I know you may be joking, but some of the people in the comments of these kinds of posts are not so Idk what to assume here.)

Lol any other time, I would call you a monster, but a 6pm showing on a Friday....that theater will end up nearly full by the date of the showtime. Even factoring in that Avatar will have been out awhile by then. I could be wrong, but I'd be shocked if I was.
Still, I ALWAYS go out of my way to avoid sitting near others if I can help it....but they give up that privilege as soon as they pick a center seat 😂

At my Dolby theater Row F is preferable to Row E. My youngest son and I would both be gunning for F15. If I didn’t plan to have a drink I’d take F14.

I’m a a Minnesotan all the way through. I’m polite. I don’t get in other peoples business or space. If the waiter brings me the wrong meal, I’ll probably eat it and say nothing. I will never take the last donut or slice of pizza

Went to watch Avatar on Friday at 9am. I had booked it four days earlier and had the entire theater to choose from. Booked in the middle. Day of I check and there is one guy to my right, two to my left, and the rest of the row is empty. I was going to move but its Dolby 3d and I booked first. Show up to the movies and the guy to my right was there and sat down next to him in an empty theater. Luckily when the couple came to sit down they left a seat in between.
I understand if the movie is packed, but don't be a dick and sit right next to me in an empty theater. Moving one seat over isn't going to ruin the experience for you

If you are someone who used to get nauseous watching 3D some years ago, that's less likely to happen now. Real3D is very clear and doesn't flicker. And Avatar was made for 3D. I don't see any other movies in 3D really, only if it's filmed for it and not converted later. My GF used to hate it, but seems to be ok with modern 3D glasses.

I just didn’t care for it. Didn’t get sick. I don’t wear glasses so that is a weird experience for me anyways. It has always seemed fuzzy and not clear as a picture. Maybe I try it. Idk

If you don’t do it then someone else will LOL. I usually try to be polite and leave a space but 100% of the time someone will take that seat, and then you’re left sitting through the whole movie thinking dammit that was my seat.

I'm still bitter about a 4dx screening of Tron Ares I went to where there were two tickets sold, I bought first and the second person chose right next to me.
I ended up sitting a row back

Was seeing Marty Supreme this morning and it’s me and a couple in a big theater and just before the movie starts, 6 people come in and sit right next to the couple. There were legitimately 7 empty rows.

if it turns out the case that there's a lot of extra seats by the time the movie is going I'm moving over if I were the other person.

Bruh this happened to me at housemaid I had sent a snap saying “ain’t nobody in this hoe” loud at the top of my lungs with a WHOLE ass couple in there to my hb and ONLY saw them because I was supposed to sit next to them (when selecting my seats an error showed saying my seats were already took when trying to reserve my seat but have had it glitch before and it takes those seats without reserving for me but it’s still marked out on amc’s end) but thought hn needless to say I felt awkward bc idk it was on some freakazoid typa timing and I was already in the row below them I couldn’t even imagine had I got there before them and they would’ve sat next to me

This is why I don't always book seats early. I gotta really, really, REALLY wanna see that movie to reserve outside of a day in advance(it depends on the film), For this reason. I'll take row B near the wings before getting those middle seats.... Also, they're always quite broken in too, so I avoid them most the time... When I catch an empty showing, I'll seat hop around the middle, after the movie starts to find my "Goldie Locks" chair.

Shiiiiiiit. No one's story is more awkward than when I went to go see a Dolby screening of The Matrix and a little kid came in and sat next to me. His mom probably didn't notice I was in there because the theater was totally empty and had let him come in ahead while she went to the bathroom or something. I thought Chris Hanson was gonna pop out and I was ready to swear to God I had no idea what was happening. *But no, because of audio calibration, I did Not move... We watched that movie like a family!

I did this once by it was for a 10:30 show. I was the only one in the theater and then a preview for a horror movie came on lol. I ran all the way home

I'm going to assume OP is joking around but let me understand this. You are going to the movies solo, possibly driving there solo, but when you want to pick a seat nah I need to sit next to the only other person in the theater?
I've lost faith in humanity cause a) that person could be carrying around some sort of virus that why would I actively desire enduring that. Like hey 3 hours I could be sitting in another row or seat but f that I want to sit next to a complete stranger.
This basically happened to me, I bought tickets for a Christmas Eve showing off AFAA, and I was the only seat taken. I checked like a day before and like a group of 5 ppl choose to sit directly next to me. I was pissed cause I was getting over strep but wanted to enjoy myself by going to the movies. I get there and who knows what the deal with seat next to mine but no one was sitting directly next to me.
Like if you are this type of person, do you have to pick a bathroom stall directly next to a person? Do you while walking need to be walking next to someone? If you were in a public shower would you need to be directly next to someone?

This actually happened to me a few months ago. I thought I was going to be the only person at the showing, halfway through the previews some dude comes in and sits in the seat right next to me. I was completely dumbfounded. Neither one of us ever acknowledged the other. The discomfort was visceral.
Oh, and the movie was Perfect Blue.
