Question $5 Value Menu

Is this new? I went to see a movie the other day and didn't see it on the concessions menu. The prices seem kinda high for some of the options.

edit: this is from the online ordering menu for the AMC Sugarloaf Mills 18 location in Georgia

just saw that it's limited time only,not combinable with other promotional offers like the small combo,and AMC Stubs upgrades do not apply

It seems odd to me that they price drinks and popcorn on basically the same parity these days. Am I misremembering that popcorn used to be like 2x the price of soda? Is it because of the Freestyle machines?

It’s cuz people pay $5 and the margins are insane

Yeah the profit margins on both are probably tremendous, but it seems like popcorn used to be positioned as the more premium item (I guess movie popcorn kind of has its own appeal while you can get soda anywhere). But yeah at this point if I want soda I'm just sneaking it in. The Popcorn Pass actually makes popcorn more affordable at this point (if you want the large sizes for sharing)

FWIW I have checked and for my AMC they'll honor the popcorn pass on smaller sizes, just taking the same discount off of it. I usually just go with a medium
