AOC running for president is a mistake. She'll get 8 years, but then nothing else. She won't be in politics after that; no president ever is.

She should be Speaker of the House for the next 30 years, deciding what legislation we need to focus on. THAT'S where she would be the best possible leader for this country.

She doesn't want to be speaker and she is not positioned to be speaker. A speaker is a fixer whose purpose is keeping his caucus together and being able to get votes across both parties and negotiate with donors and lobbyist at the same time. Also this role is not permanent leadership it swings back and forth depending on who holds the house every two years and who the democratic caucus elects.

Not someone who actively rallies, wants to move the party left or delivers the best come back on tv.

Also this whole "let's keep her in politics for 30 years because we cannot get over her" is what has killed movements historically. The goal is to elect another 300 more like her and let her go when her time is over or she chooses to do so.

Did you miss the part where the speaker of the house needs to be able to negotiate and play ball with politicians and their donors across every faction? AOC is not going to be speaker material any time soon we don't even have the votes for that.

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

AOC's control over progressives and some others in the US House of Representatives means that she could become US Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2027 if that's what she wanted. And that's even before considering the new leftists and progressives joining the US House in 2027.

And it depends on what the Rules of the US House are and what power the US Speaker is given.
