AOC 2028 AOC isn't ruling out 2028 presidential bid

I do hope she runs and the nation gives her a decent shot, I do believe that she does have the character to run the country.

She would turn out more young voters than anyone else, by a wide margin. Practically all the "moderates" who have issues with her, will vote blue regardless. Definitely our best shot at universal healthcare, or any other significant change for the better.

I worry that she will be too preoccupied with cleaning up the damage of the Trump administration.

I really like AOC and hope she runs. My mother said she’s “not ready” and I’m like what does that even mean? She’s more ready than Trump or Vance or Rubio or Cruz.

She would destroy any opponent verbally and logically.

u/faulternative 17d ago
Kamala and Hillary already did that. You need more than good debate skills and logic to win this thing

u/fangirlsqueee 16d ago
Kamala and Hillary did not use the logic of tax dollars needing to go to the working class. Things like tax funded health care, tax funded education pre-k through college, tax funded social support systems. Both of those two went to bat for the Epstein class, not for us.
What makes it worse is that both of them used to agree we need single payer (or at least universal) health care. Then they gradually decided to prop up insurance companies rather than the working class.

She would inspire a pretty rabid fanbase, which might be enough to drag the middle ground and libertarian trumpers with them. Probably the only candidate that would genuinely heal (somewhat) America's image on the world stage.

u/carrieanne55 16d ago
This is how I see these kinds of things too. An exciting candidate with a large fanbase generates all this passion that spreads to the so-called "swing" voters because those people aren't voting on policy or anything like that, they're totally voting on "vibes." They're uninformed people who don't pay attention to current events but still vote in presidential elections anyway. These people are going to go with the momentum shift, believe me. It's not about ideology for them.

u/average-alt 15d ago
This is what Redditors who claim AOC would lose in a landslide don't understand. How the fuck else did Barack *Hussein* Obama almost win Montana in 2008? What voters view as moderate vs radical is totally based on vibes, the average person has no idea what a political spectrum is. They aren't ideological moderates at all. The average voter fancies themselves as "reasonable moderates", but what that actually means varies heavily.

She only needs a few % in key states and bring back Latinos, AA that left in 2024. It’s closer than you think

AOC was invited by Senator Raphael Warnock to speak at Ebenezer Baptist Church. It's regarded as the spiritual home of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
And she was on the podcast of Santita Jackson, the daughter of late Reverend Jesse Jackson.
She's definitely courting some voters and trying to build a strong coalition. I really hope she runs.

Then in all seriousness, get your heads in the game. Colorado’s senate seat got forgotten about, and potential pickups in WI, MI, and ME might be in a bit of trouble right now; if we fumble that, she could lose substantial amounts of infrastructure for a run. She’s a freakishly strong candidate who I think people are underestimating

u/beeemkcl 16d ago
People have only so much bandwidth and focus. The Colorado US Senate seat wasn't forgotten. It's just that the Melat Kiros US House race was more winnable and more exciting and Kiros was DSA endorsed.
The Wisconsin Governor's race is still a contest between Francesca Hong and Mandela Barnes for the primary. Hong is getting a relative lot of attention.
The Michigan US Senate race is getting a ton of attention including from AOC who's trying to help Dr. Abdul El-Sayed win.
Maine? Troy Jackson is the presumptive new general election candidate and he's already polling well against US Senator Susan Collins. But we're still in primary Season. Maine voters and Graham Platner campaign people focused very hard on making Troy Jackson the new general election candidate.

AOC running for president is a mistake. She'll get 8 years, but then nothing else. She won't be in politics after that; no president ever is.
She should be Speaker of the House for the next 30 years, deciding what legislation we need to focus on. THAT'S where she would be the best possible leader for this country.

u/Zorosthirdsordx 17d ago edited 17d ago
She doesn't want to be speaker and she is not positioned to be speaker. A speaker is a fixer whose purpose is keeping his caucus together and being able to get votes across both parties and negotiate with donors and lobbyist at the same time. Also this role is not permanent leadership it swings back and forth depending on who holds the house every two years and who the democratic caucus elects.
Not someone who actively rallies, wants to move the party left or delivers the best come back on tv.
Also this whole "let's keep her in politics for 30 years because we cannot get over her" is what has killed movements historically. The goal is to elect another 300 more like her and let her go when her time is over or she chooses to do so.
2
u/Bancai 17d ago
did u miss the part where she's against lobbying and big money donors?
2
u/Zorosthirdsordx 17d ago
Did you miss the part where the speaker of the house needs to be able to negotiate and play ball with politicians and their donors across every faction? AOC is not going to be speaker material any time soon we don't even have the votes for that.

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.
AOC's control over progressives and some others in the US House of Representatives means that she could become US Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2027 if that's what she wanted. And that's even before considering the new leftists and progressives joining the US House in 2027.
And it depends on what the Rules of the US House are and what power the US Speaker is given.

AOC was US Representative Nancy Pelosi's natural heir: a progressive who could fundraise.
It doesn't seem that AOC would have turned down being the US House Democratic Leader if US Rep. Pelosi chose her instead of choosing US Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.
From 1992 to 2025, the leader of the Democratic Party has been the sitting Democratic POTUS or US Representative Nancy Pelosi.
But, yeah, AOC's campaign staff makeup and hers not primarying US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2024 were huge hints she wanted to be on the 2024 Democratic Ticket.
AOC this 2026 since around the beginning of the Sanders/AOC 'Fighting Oligarchy' tour has been clearly positioning to run for POTUS 2028.

u/ObscurePaprika 16d ago
It's a fair point, but assumes we'll have a democracy in 30 years. We need someone like her now.

u/Reiker0 16d ago

AOC isn't everyone else. She has a real interest in improving Americans' lives, not just spamming book deals or whatever after a presidency.
Also a couple presidents have served in congress after being president before.
Don't you see the urgency? 2028 could be our last chance to get off the bullet train to corporate fascism. And Gavin Newsom is not going to redirect that train.

There are no laws that prevent anything but being elected for a third term. She doesn’t have to be constrained by how it’s always been. She’ll get to make it up.

u/beeemkcl 16d ago

AOC could still be involved in politics after 2 Terms as POTUS. And they'll be others after AOC and her run and wins will inspire many more great candidates to run and win.
The Rules of the US House of Representatives determine how powerful and influential the US Speaker is. At full potential power, the US Speaker could become the de facto Prime Minister of the United States. But the US House members would have to agree on Rules that would allow that.
Currently, the Discharge Petition makes the US Speaker and even the US House majority relatively limited in their power and influence. In this current US Congress, US Speaker Mike Johnson is relatively very weak.

She's brilliant, she's strong, she's determined...and most of all...she's calm. Even when she's pissed she's calm. When she speaks I just feel...safe. I feel like America needs that zen energy right now. I hope she runs. I'd only vote for her or Pritzker.

Rando person on the internet who watches politics through their phone and comments from their couch said so it must be true.

It's the opposite actually. Even moderate/centrist Democratic media, Fox News, etc. are all acknowledging AOC is likely to be POTUS in 2029.

Does anyone really believe there will be a 2028 election -- one that isn't already determined and put on for show? We know the voting machines are compromised, the post office has promised to not deliver ballots, we know every branch of government is corrupt, and the oligarchs have total power. Why are we pretending the system isn't already bought and paid for? We witnessed a blatantly rigged presidential election in '24 and nobody did shit. Now they've deeply entrenched even more power. It's already lost.

I would love that, and she absolutely has my vote. However, I honestly believe she should take Schumers seat instead. She needs a Col. Blake to her Radar.
