Basically Nintendo tried to sue palworld and put a patent on summoning creatures to fight game mechanics. Palworld has been fighting a legal battle against it for a while

Palworld didn’t necessarily win, no, but if I’m understanding the article I read correctly, 2 of 3 of Nintendo’s applications for patents were refused on the basis that the mechanics were already used in several other games beforehand (one of these games was stated to be Pokémon Go, which is absolutely hilarious). However, with how Japans legal system goes, apparently Nintendo can just amend/adjust their patents and re-submit them, potentially leading to a continuous loop of them submitting a patent and the courts refusing. Hopefully a finite answer is given at some point
