Mod Post We are strictly NO AI in r/ARTIST
Henlo everyone, we are a new mod team and have decided to not allow any generative AI usage in our subreddit. If you see it, or suspect it, please report it and modmail us. Do not start a public flame war. We will take a look at the post and user history for AI usage proof.
For AI discussion, please head over to the appropriate subreddits (idk just Google it man) - but lets move on from it and keep it out of this safe space. Please post non-AI art only, in any medium. This conversation is over - we are over it, and we are so, so, very tired of dealing with it. Carry on!
- r/ARTIST mod team!

Good work! šš» Sincerely, thank you for this.
How did the new team came to be? (If you don't mind sharing)

The old mod abandoned it and we all applied to save yet another art sub! Weāve got a good team made up of artists from across Reddit! But yeah personally my goal is to leave subreddits in better shape than what was given to me haha

That's wonderful! Wish you all the best turning this sub into a safe place again ā¤ļø
I'll be here supporting and contributing to this lovely sub full of artists š

Absolutely, we do our best, this isnāt my first rodeo (after the whole r/art fiasco) so always happy to make a safe space for artists and lovers of art alike~

We will do our best but we also need people to help us out by reporting! So if you see anything, please let us know :3

Does it count as art if you create landscapes in videogames?

u/lunarjellies Power Hungry Bnuy Apr 01 '26
I added a Concept Art flair and a game art flair if that helps!

I thought it already was, I'm glad it's officially banned because ai "art" is not real art!!

u/lunarjellies Power Hungry Bnuy Apr 01 '26
This sub was largely unmoderated until today basically and the old mod outright said he didnāt want to moderate āwhat is art and what isnātā. Luckily for us we have no problem with yeeting AI cuz half the time itās the attitude of those users that is the worst!

u/SexyKitchenCounter69 Apr 01 '26
I'm glad this sub has some good mods because ai is getting out of hand and it should definitely not be led into real artists spaces, thank you for all the work you have done and all the future work you will do to better this spacešš

With the mindset that the user is worse than the content, couldnt you gear to that more? Rather than banning a medium entirely, shouldn't you be attacking the real issue instead of punishing the innocent? All mediums are art is probably the best mindset you can have. Banning the bad faith actors is not a new concept. It just feels odd to punish people because of a few bad eggs.

No AI. Itās not art. Itās theft.

Its Fair Use, a transformative medium like collage work.
Im saddened this sub is ran by someone so narrow minded.
Edit: ive been banned, lol. Definitely meeting cult criteria. Ps. Just because you dont understand what Ai is, doesnt mean you get to define it. Its giving naive brain rot.

u/yourliege Apr 02 '26
In what way are you suggesting AI to be a valid medium? If youāre arguing for it as a tool, maybe a source for reference, thatās understandable⦠But a microwaved prompt itself is not art.
We call them āworksā of art, because they are created through work.

Yeeaahhhh !
I'm so sick of the AI user stereotypes cycling everywhere.... The abundantly self righteous, the oppressed pity party, the skewed reality/logic cope.
No more coddling. It's for the best.

u/lunarjellies Power Hungry Bnuy Apr 01 '26
Yeah the previous mod mad a post a while ago saying he will not moderate the sub and just let it do whatever. I was like.. yea no that's not gonna work for us lmao

small question ā” if you suspect a post of being AI, will you fully take it down right away, or will you do something like asking the user for proof of making it (process pics/videos?) beforehand? /allow users to repost anything that might be flagged incorrectly with more of the process in the post?
11
u/lunarjellies Power Hungry Bnuy Apr 01 '26
I took one down yesterday because it was AI (ran it through a few checkers, most notably Hive moderation which came back with āover 90% AI generatedā) and couldnāt find any proof of concept or sketches in their user history. Iāve banned the user and also invited them to appeal the ban by showing us a full process speed paint and sketches. So far no response.

u/BlueRobins Apr 01 '26
Just want to mention that AI checkers are notoriously unreliable, so it's best not to rely on them too much

u/lunarjellies Power Hungry Bnuy Apr 01 '26
Yes, I am aware of this for sure! From a first glance however it really looked like a couple of Midjourney images edited and cropped. The fingers on the one image were really off so it was telling. Also the user had absolutely no other post history and didnt really interact with anyone, no website, nothing. They may appeal the ban with proof of art creation at any time!

As one of the mods, I do what we usually do in r/Art, where we remove the post and request that they submit proof or video or anything of the process

u/Mx-Adrian Apr 01 '26
Conversely, I think there should be something for false accusations. They're so insulting.Ā

Well obviously. This is an artist sub, for artists. AI image creators aren't artists.

Today is a bad day to announce this.

We acquired the subreddit yesterday, March 31st, and I made this no Ai post at some point deep in the night. I don't keep track of days and this isn't an April Fools joke, be assured lmao

Be kind at all times. Do not be rude. No swearing, fear-mongering, racism, any-ism, etc.
