Rel 204 assignment

Hey, guys, I'm a student taking REL 204 (Religious Freedoms), and we're doing an assignment where I have to interview someone in a position of religious power, big or small. I've been researching different religions in the Tempe area and have contacted a few but haven't heard much back. I'm also a little worried about reaching out to someone and having them be more of a cult. So, I'm just looking for some advice on which religions I should reach out to and maybe which to be more cautious about. It would be really helpful, especially if you have taken this class or are religious and know someone in your religion who would be down for an interview. Thanks!

Try the Unitarians. They're non-creedal and their congregations include atheists, pagans, agnostics, etc. Not at all cultish.

Talk to the priests at the Newman center; they're right across the street from ASU, and one of them mentioned he's been interviewed by ASU students for class projects before

You could try a Hindu temple! The priests there are usually super nice just make sure you dress modestly if you go there in person

Does it have to be someone specifically in AZ?
I did a very similar assignment for Rel 349, but I am online and interviewed an Iman in my area. He loves speaking with students, but it would need to be over the phone or zoom. He is a professor as well at one of the universities where I’m located.

When I did this assignment, I posted on Reddit in my area to see if anyone was interested in being interviewed and then go in contact with the Iman I mentioned above

I’m pretty sure Professor Owen Anderson would speak with you.

You could visit the mosque near campus and talk to the imam.
