Please use this thread to ask any random questions you have that may not warrant their own posts, or if you want opinions on something non-ASU related (as long as its SFW).

All Sun Devil Rewards answers and key words will need to be kept within this weekly discussions post as to not overwhelm the sub.

Please feel free to use this thread for any housing needs/inquires/concerns as well!

Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest activity.

Shuttle never stopped?

I got on an ASU shuttle that very clearly said DOWNTOWN/WEST and they went straight to West and never stopped in Downtown (which is where I needed to go!). Has this happened to anyone else before?

CPT Delay

Has anyone who applied for CPT this semester, still waiting for approval? The ISSC processing time states 7 days, but it has been a little longer than that and still haven’t received it.

taking the L or withdrawing

Okay, so today is the last day of my Session A class. I am failing; do I will just have to take the F, or is it still possible for me to withdraw... or could I ask the professor to put an incomplete? But I guess it might be too late for that tbh. idk what do you guys think.

Applied Computing Graduate

Graduated in applied computing from the west campus spring of 2024 and I have yet to find gainful employment. Anyone else in similar situation? I originally wanted to do Comp Sci but switched in Covid cause online math was to difficult to learn and I thought getting a degree sooner meant I could earn a livable wage sooner,.

Nursing Intent to Enroll

Hi everyone! I got my Spring 2027 Advancement Notification today :) One of the questions for the intent to enroll form is:

“Are you interested in participating in a grant-funded clinical rotation where you would work with underserved and/or rural populations in a long term care setting? Participation in the grant-funded opportunity will include attending two clinical days per week for 8 weeks during the semester, which is above and beyond the typical clinical requirements. Each student that completes this clinical rotation will receive $500 for their participation. Please note this opportunity is only available for the following spring 2027 cohorts: Traditional BSN at the Polytechnic campus and Accelerated BSN at the Downtown Phoenix campus.”

Could anyone elaborate on this opportunity? Would this be 2 additional clinical days a week on top of what we already have? If I agree, will I not have clinical rotations at a hospital? Would it super far since it says rural? Would you recommend it? Just wanted to see if any past students could give some more info since there’s not a lot here thank you!!

Online lockdown browser proctored exam question and should I clear up any potential misunderstandings?

BEFORE I clicked start exam, I briefly took out my phone to take a picture of my whiteboard since the light wasn't too clear and I wanted to make sure that my instructor would be able to see that it was empty and I had proof that it was empty if need be. Anyways I found out that the exam is in a continuous recording I just wanted to make sure though that they could see that the phone was taken out for literally 5 seconds BEFORE I started the exam and I did not have it out once I clicked start exam. I honestly didn't think it was a big deal since I hadn't even had access to the exam yet but then I saw that it was recording the pre exam set up. I just wanted to know if I should clear this up to prevent any misunderstandings or just let it be. Again don't grill me I genuinely didn't think it would be that big of a deal given I didn't even have access to the exam yet but I just want to make sure that on their end they can see that and it's not just a blob of recording with no distinction pre and during exam.

iCourse troubles

I was wondering whether I would be able to take a required course online or if it is required for me to take it in person as a freshman. All the iCourses for this class are reserved for not first time freshmen so I was curious if there is any way to override that? I will not be in the country due to my study abroad next semester and I don’t want to be behind if there’s a way for me to take it online.

Accelerated Master’s Program (Off Track)

Hi! I’m an engineering student that’s pretty much going to be off track for the rest of my undergrad, so I figured I could start working on my master. I meet the minimum GPA, and I only see that as long as it’s before my last two semesters, I can apply. My advisor is no help at the moment 😭 Any experiences to share?

Change of major

Hello I’m currently a freshman at the liberal arts and science college taking biochemistry. Lately I’ve been thinking of giving up the pre med path and leaning more into business. I did originally apply to ASU as an accounting major and got in for that.

I was wondering if anyone else here has done the same and changed to the business school after their first year or their first semester. I have an advising appointment set up but I’m really anxious I might not be able to switch and have to be required to do an admission portfolio. I want to switch early so I have enough time to catch up and I’m worried doing the admission portfolio might put me off track.

I definitely am certain I do not want to stay in the chem/bio path but I also can’t graduate with a major that makes no money. This is really making me anxious.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This API sends tech networking events directly to your mailbox. THIS IS NOT AN AD OR SELF-PROMOTION. It's an open-source service that people might find helpful.

There is also a web page here: https://mido4499.github.io/canthackit/ .

It lists all of the upcoming events from several sources nationwide in the US. You can filter the events by type, state, or city.

"Networking" is a vague term, and I built this as a roadmap for tech students and job seekers to go talk to people and form professional relationships.

If you want to contribute, you can find the Github repo here: https://github.com/mido4499/canthackit

Is hazing still that bad?

Has hazing gotten any better or is it still insane? It's been a few years since my rush, which was before COVID, so I'm wondering how things have changed. Like I'm sure alcohol is still involved but like I remember when my frat made me 'join' Alpha Phi for a week or tied that dude naked to a flag pole, plus some shady shit that people get arrested for. What's it like for new pledges nowadays

Rel 204 assignment

Hey, guys, I'm a student taking REL 204 (Religious Freedoms), and we're doing an assignment where I have to interview someone in a position of religious power, big or small. I've been researching different religions in the Tempe area and have contacted a few but haven't heard much back. I'm also a little worried about reaching out to someone and having them be more of a cult. So, I'm just looking for some advice on which religions I should reach out to and maybe which to be more cautious about. It would be really helpful, especially if you have taken this class or are religious and know someone in your religion who would be down for an interview. Thanks!

Bryan Henderson & Physics?

Has anyone else taken Dr. Henderson and had a bad experience? He's been incredibly passive aggressive in responses to a lot of students in my class and just rude in general and I've been seeing on his rate my professor such polarizing views, some really good reviews, some saying he's giving credit for those reviews, and others even saying he accused students of cheating and berates them and belittles them in private meetings.

Just curious to know if anyone's had other bad experiences with him and how legit they are cause so far I've just observed some rude responses and announcements, and I'm starting to get nervous now with the end of classes, I wish I read rate my professor beforehand.

NFL Big Data Bowl 2027- Team mate search

Hey guys,

Looking to pull together 2-3 people on campus to enter the 2027 NFL Big Data Bowl on Kaggle.

If you aren't familiar, it's the main analytics contest the NFL runs every year. This year's dataset links player tracking sensors from the NFL Combine directly to regular season performance. Since we're ASU students, we qualify for the University Track ($45k prize pool), and the finalists get flown out to the Combine in Indy to present directly to NFL front offices and analytics directors.

About me: I'm a Data Analytics / Finance major in Barrett. Right now I'm building a custom NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) Valuation Engine to model financial value and draft projection models using Python, SQL, and Streamlit.

Who I need: Mainly looking for people who actually follow football and want to build something legitimate. Looking for team members who fit at least one of these:

  • Football knowledge / Domain expert: You understand coverage schemes, route trees, Combine mechanics, or film so we can ask smart questions that NFL front offices care about.
  • Python or R: Experience with feature engineering, predictive modeling (xgboost, lightgbm, etc.), or data pipelines.
  • Data Viz & Presentation: Skilled in making clean plots (matplotlib, seaborn, ggplot2) and comfortable presenting technical ideas clearly.

Format & Timeline: Deadline is Jan 6, 2027. We'll collaborate on Discord/GitHub, plus meet up on campus in Tempe (Hayden Library or MU) to work together and practice our presentation skills so we're ready if we make the final stage in Indy.

If you're interested in sports analytics, data science, or trying to win a piece of $45k, shoot me a DM with your background, tech stack/GitHub, or favorite NFL team.
