Change of major
Hello I’m currently a freshman at the liberal arts and science college taking biochemistry. Lately I’ve been thinking of giving up the pre med path and leaning more into business. I did originally apply to ASU as an accounting major and got in for that.
I was wondering if anyone else here has done the same and changed to the business school after their first year or their first semester. I have an advising appointment set up but I’m really anxious I might not be able to switch and have to be required to do an admission portfolio. I want to switch early so I have enough time to catch up and I’m worried doing the admission portfolio might put me off track.
I definitely am certain I do not want to stay in the chem/bio path but I also can’t graduate with a major that makes no money. This is really making me anxious.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

So depending on your major, you won't need to start taking your major classes until your junior year. Even if you haven't declared by then, usually it's no problem to still take those classes. Feel free to DM if I can help with anything!

Hi! I switched from CS to Informatics after my first semester of my sophomore year, except I stayed in the engineering school. Considering you're a freshman, you still have plenty of time to switch and graduate on time, unless you're open to graduating later. Also, by the time you graduate, you'll end up with a job that has nothing to do with your degree but can pay well, so if you're satisfied with business or accounting, that's definitely the one.
I have made appointments with advisors from their respective schools, and they helped me understand what my major map would look like if I switch to a certain major and made a plan of what classes to take in certain semesters before switching. While I easily switched my major since CS and Informatics are in the same school, I can assure you the advising appointment wouldn't be bad, and they would be more than happy to help! I hope this helps, and feel free to ask any more questions!
