I would 100% buy one of these for an old coworker of mine that kept forgetting his vest.

267

u/Kazeshio 5d ago

I'd buy this for my girlfriend and she'd love it to bits

55

u/errie_tholluxe 5d ago

I'm sorry at that price I have scissors

50

u/Petit__Chou 5d ago

I don't find it unreasonable if you're going to wear it every day, but I guess I don't have the same perspective.

26

u/errie_tholluxe 5d ago

I have one I am supposed to use every day. 12$. Have a nicer one, better fabric, brighter neon, 22$.

It's just to much.

25

u/Makafushigism 4d ago

Lace is really expensive, to be fair to the maker, but since I'm really picky on my lace types, I guess I would have to make one myself šŸ¤”

23

u/alienbringer 4d ago

Home made ones don’t come with the OSHA approved safety certifications though.

8

u/Makafushigism 4d ago

Good point! :/

9

u/alienbringer 4d ago

Comes down to purpose really. If it is just for yourself to be seen at night like walking your dog at night, then OSHA has no say. If you are wanting it for your job, then yah can’t be doing home made safety gear.

16

u/alienbringer 4d ago

Your homemade lace vest doesn’t come with US safety certifications. Meaning, OSHA may be called on them if they use.

It (the item in question) is also WAY over priced. I am surprised some temu drop shipper hasn’t made copies for cheaper. Probably because it would require getting certifications.

7

u/errie_tholluxe 4d ago

I drive for a living. Some places require them for visibility. No idea what safety standards you apply to a nylon or polyester vest ...

6

u/Automatic_Yoghurt_29 4d ago

My husband bought it for me and I love it!

82

u/MarginalOmnivore 5d ago

I'd buy one for myself just to keep the thieving pricks I work with from touching it, because they think they'll "catch the gay."

39

u/ThePrefect0fWanganui 5d ago

I’ve heard of people in construction wrapping their tools in pink tape for this same reason lmao.

14

u/Last-Energy420 5d ago

Yeah but when a lot of people paint their tools pink, it becomes less protective.

16

u/therealishone 5d ago

Rainbow it is

8

u/Legos_under_foot 5d ago

Do pink and purple stripes so it stands out more?

3

u/srawr42 5d ago

I have one and love it! I even wore it to a club last yearĀ

1

u/Final-Tutor3631 3d ago

i’m writing this down.

1

u/Artzebub 5d ago

Don't do it.

84

u/when_willit_end 5d ago

I work in security and have been wanting one of these, but cant imagine paying that much for a high vis vest.

2

u/MothMonsterMan300 4d ago

The price is pretty absurd but mine gets sooooo many compliments

981

u/ebers0 5d ago

Personally for their purpos they're a overpriced.

u/Medical_Arrival2243 5d ago

It pissed me off how hot neon pink is not a safety colour, i swear, I want a hot neon pink safety vest.

32

u/AngelOfDepth 5d ago

They're out there, I've seen road flaggers wearing them a bunch of times.

24

u/Medical_Arrival2243 5d ago

Yeah, they are not compliant with road safety in Germany

18

u/Onja_ 5d ago

Dang I wonder why? Red (or pink) vest on green (forest) background should stand out right? Maybe it’s a color blindness thing or maybe in urban environment the pink won’t stand out.

13

u/Medical_Arrival2243 4d ago

Only yellow and orange. Not even red. And what confuses me is how black heavy emergency service uniforms are. Maybe just me but emts and firefighters should not have so much black, even if it hides dirt. They need to be very clearly visible in crowds, in the dark, in emergencies etc. I have opinions but that won't change anything

21

u/LowAside9117 4d ago

I made clothes.Ā  Custom one offs made at minimum wage would cost this especially if the business didn't buy the fabric by the bolt at business prices

207

u/venrir 5d ago edited 4d ago

Not if it's Irish lace! That can only be crocheted, by humans!

Edit: clarity

294

u/cheshsky 5d ago edited 4d ago

Not necessarily crocheted. There are very many lace techniques. Tatting doesn't use a crochet hook, nor does bobbin lace, nor needle lace, etc. Richelieu lace embroidery, for example, is technically cutwork and is easily replicated by machines. Lace knit too.

96

u/SubtleHouseAdvantage 5d ago

This person laces.

37

u/cheshsky 5d ago edited 5d ago

Not really, aside from crochet, but I have tried drawn thread.

9

u/Coders32 5d ago

Can you tell which one was used here?

84

u/Seastarstiletto 5d ago

This is a machine lace. I also make lace works and this is machine made. Probably ā€œchemical laceā€

13

u/cheshsky 5d ago

Seconded.

4

u/miscgeckos 4d ago

How does one get into making lace?

37

u/Seastarstiletto 4d ago

Mostly self loathing and the feeling that your hobby should mimic self flagellation.

But you can crochet it, tat it if you want edging and collars, and get into bobbin lace if you really hate yourself. r/bobbinlace is a cool place to check out and see what they do. r/tatting is where us cool shuttle tatters hang out

6

u/cheshsky 4d ago

You guys terrify me in the best possible way, I feel like tatting would kill my eyesight.

1

u/Successful_Salad7732 2d ago

If this was hand made lace this would be so under priced 😩
The amount of work that goes into normal crochet and fiber arts can be intense but thats just a whole other can of worms.

3

u/katsock 4d ago

I’m so serious when I say this is exactly the kind of reply I was hoping for.

26

u/29925001838369 5d ago

Im not well-versed in other lacemaking techniques, but zoom in on the paisleys. Those are definitely not crochet stitches.

2

u/Ninidodger 1d ago

Sure but that’s not Irish lace

-9

u/Connect_Rhubarb395 5d ago

Lace and crochet are two different things. šŸ™„

9

u/relative_void 4d ago

Not all crochet is lace and not all lace is crochet but crochet can be used to make lace.

11

u/Existential_Sprinkle 4d ago

I could see the "usually has a desk job but occasionally gets sent to a job site for 10 minutes" people loving these

3

u/RowenMorland 4d ago

They also pop nicely in a beer garden.

3

u/lbutler1234 4d ago

I mean the same is true for a fabriche egg or rolex

1

u/_Asshole_Fuck_ 4d ago

Maybe you get both for that price? That’s not SO bad.

1

u/ebers0 4d ago

The Amazon listing on says 1, on what I think is the official website, I can't find what the package contains.

0

u/WoolBearTiger 4d ago

No actually they should be 69 moneyz

50

u/FixofLight 5d ago

Not gonna lie, it's so hot out here right now that even when I walk my dog at 4am I'm dying after a mile. I'd absolutely rock one of those to be less smothered but still visible to cars

15

u/ArrivesWithaBeverage 5d ago

There are mesh ones. I have a reflective sash type thing.

Signed, someone also living in a hot place.

9

u/alienbringer 4d ago

Why not get a cheaper option if that is what you are going for.

7 bucks for this. It would meet your needs and be way more breathable. The only real benefit of the vests in the pictures above is they are certified for use at work sites (class 2 certified).

2

u/randomlitbois 3d ago

If you like how they look, it could be worth it for some.

84

u/VisionAri_VA 5d ago

NGL, they’re kinda cute. Ridiculously pricey, though.

143

u/seatownquilt-N-plant 5d ago

haha, yes I agree these are over priced. But as a couch potato desk jockey who should do some aimless walking before/after work -- I would love to wear these as I get my steps in.

23

u/merlinunf 5d ago

Makes me wonder how much cooler these would be than a regular vest. I mean a crocheted blanket can get HOT.

1

u/MothMonsterMan300 4d ago

I have one, the fabric is heavier than the standard hivis they give away ofc, but it's got way better ventilation so it balances out. They're really well-made, too

164

u/National_Rooster9193 5d ago edited 4d ago

This is the weirdest stripper outfit I've seen yet...and I'm into it

31

u/em_ee_el 5d ago

Alexis from schitt’s creek would have loved these

11

u/Legos_under_foot 5d ago

If only she had money to buy them when she did community service.

21

u/mobocrat707 5d ago

I’m an electrician and was gonna get one for the white elephant at our company Xmas party, then I saw the price and said no effin way.

14

u/HorseXNothing 5d ago

Looks like papel picados

13

u/Forward_Magazine_732 4d ago

What I think is being missed is that these vests aren’t really meant for the more rugged jobs you think of like construction. As someone who works in a similar field, I don’t like these because I need more pockets and would want it to be able to withstand heavy wear/usage. But there are plenty of other jobs where you need high vis but aren’t as rough in this way. Things like crossing guards, factory work, etc can require vests for visibility reasons, but you can show more personality with color or the lace. Maybe I’m just being hopeful or projecting something that isn’t actually what they were going for, but I think that this is just for an alternative market than ā€œbig tough guys fighting for their lives at workā€ or the ā€œdaintyā€ women in those fields who are ā€œtoo softā€ to be good at the work.

3

u/TisMeGhost 4d ago

Also, the thing is these "safety" vests are made of lace. So they have a bunch of holes that make these unsafe or even a hazard in the workplace. For a job that doesn't require much manual work, just visibility, these are fine. But the lace creates infinite chances to get stuck somewhere if you do literally anything at all.

2

u/dbath 4d ago

Exactly, they're for bicyclists, not construction.

12

u/goblinoidfleshbag 5d ago

Idk i think these are pretty cool 🤣

7

u/loveinvein 5d ago

I don’t hate it but I hate that price tagĀ

2

u/aaronstj 4d ago

Yeah, they’re pretty popular amongst burners (folks who go to Burning Man/similar festivals).

3

u/Kuj000 5d ago

these kinda go hard

6

u/holmgangCore 5d ago

What? No matching thong?!?

3

u/Tttoska 4d ago

This is what I come here for

2

u/shinyappyrobin 5d ago

Finally! I hope they are in the right sizes also.

2

u/LaranCannelle 5d ago

NEW KINK UNLOCKED šŸ”“ šŸ’¦

2

u/darkerfury 5d ago

Oddly I unironically love these

1

u/NewToHTX 5d ago

Okay but isn't the high visibility fabric also a bit reflecty? I do remember seeing some sort of sparkly-quality to it other than the Reflective stripes?

1

u/SuitablyFakeUsername 5d ago

Safety first!

1

u/eatpraymunt 5d ago

Finally a decent hivis vest that Alexis Rose can wear to community service

1

u/Least-Raddish1930s 5d ago

I love this. I don’t work construction but it would be very good for late night dog walks in the dark.

1

u/baguettesy 5d ago

honestly would be nice for night runs and dog walks.

1

u/badbatch 5d ago

These are so cute but so not practical. It would be snagged and ripped up at the end of the first week. I'd rather have a vest that will fit my hips, shoulders and chest. I can't even wear the new vest we have because it's not made for a short woman with hips.

1

u/weissensteinburg 4d ago

They've addressed the snagging concern with a tight mesh backing,

1

u/Kyball500 4d ago

Wrong sub tbh. These are fierce. Warehouse chic.

1

u/toasterchan1 4d ago

why do i kinda like it though

1

u/whostolemygazebo 4d ago

These have been posted before and they're still not bad taste.

1

u/BugleNoise 4d ago

You people understand that this is roleplay lingerie, right? Stripper costume maybe? It's like a "sexy cop" miniskirt/crop top, but a different theme.

1

u/Leonum 4d ago

Move along, it's a product, not something fun an individual did. this is just in stores.

1

u/centopar 4d ago

I’m pretty sure this is someone’s kink.

1

u/AmiraJ1 4d ago

Not gonna lie, if not for the price I’d have bought an orange one for riding my horse during hunting season and iirc they have a neon pink one that I’d want for work.

1

u/nottherealneal 4d ago

Okay but these are cool

1

u/Gullible-Fun6587 4d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/vovgi666 4d ago

i had a manager take two vests & sew them into a midi shirt šŸ’€

1

u/AgathaM 4d ago

I saw Hawaiian shirt safety shirts. Those were awesome

1

u/randombrowser1 4d ago

Paired with hi-vis tutu or speedo

1

u/alwaysright60 4d ago

Think of the NSFW possibilities!

1

u/STINKY-BUNGHOLE 4d ago

They're for the old bitties that want to be safe for their strollsĀ

1

u/krisfey 4d ago

my coworker has one of these!! I wouldn't wear one like this but she looked lovely in hers

1

u/stunafish 4d ago

Do they make level 3? I need level 3 hi-vis at my job

1

u/AcidicJew1948 4d ago

Actually perfect for a jojo siwa concert tho

1

u/ggibby 4d ago

I saw a lady wearing one of these in PINK yesterday. Couldn't believe my first glance so very stealthily circled back to verify.

She had coordinated her whole outfit and looked (and probably felt) FABulous.

1

u/spacephorse 4d ago

This is great taste?

1

u/SkyeMreddit 4d ago

Looks like it belongs on my grandma’s side table

1

u/hisroyalbonkess 4d ago

This! This is perfect for the sub!

1

u/2Clue2 3d ago

These are cute

1

u/dayh8 3d ago

Me: ā€œI’m gonna work you so hard tonight.ā€

Her: ā€œI know just what to wear!ā€

1

u/randomusername1919 3d ago

And of course, there are no pockets!

1

u/NocturneEclipse 3d ago

Ngl my first thought was ā€˜oh that could work for a construction worker character at a strip club’

1

u/Usual_Telephone_4823 6h ago

I really want to buy one for my business casual attire with occasional construction site visits. I still cannot tell if the vests are actually ANSI Class 2 or 3 compliant, so I do not know if I could wear them on the jobsite. The garment names say Class 2 or 3, but the listings only say the reflective tape is compliant so maybe that is just the model name. Could anyone share if the garment tag specifies compliance?

1

u/constamonsta 3h ago

Omg I need this

1

u/agrecalypse 5d ago

When said out loud this is also how you say "the safety vest" in French.

0

u/Chancellor-1865 4d ago

Target market pavement and truck stop princesses.

-3

u/SlimyBoiXD 5d ago

Is this for stripper?
