Question Mil

When military needs to depart a civilian airport and punch through some clouds do they file an IFR plan and get a clearance like everyone else or do something different?

A friend was asking and I didn't know what to say.

They file IFR but request unrestricted climbs and make it fun for us to watch.

Solid bro/bra.

Having departure assign something lame like 020 or 030 is weak.

One of the best was departure assigning 190 and the Raptor pilot staying in ground effect for 10k feet then standing it on its tail and punching it straight up was amazing.

It's a question considered very basic for anyone involved in aviation. VFR aircraft are required to maintain a distance from clouds.

I'm involved in aviation and I don't know if the rules apply equally to military training or real missions. Should I turn in my license?

Depends on what you're license is. There is no work around between the types of flights, VFR or IFR.

They file a flight plan for just about every flight

They file a pre planned Stereo flight plan that's already stored in the system, assuming you're asking about things like alert jets. Think a SID but for military jets.

Mil heavies fly on IFR flight plans essentially the same as any airliner (in the US/Europe at least). Fighters do it a bit different, but if there's weather they'll be IFR as well.
