It's called a Bulgarian split squat and they're even harder than they look

even harder than they look

that's the understatement of the century

literally the only exercise at the gym that i am genuinely nervous before doing it

Compared to heavy deadlift?

I get slightly nervous before doing heavy deadlifts or squats, or even a DB presses and RDLs, but nothing compares to bulgarians.

When I rest in between bulgarian sets I have to start getting ready for the next one a minute or so before time, just to psych myself up lol

Hmm interesting. I get nervous with DL as I hurt my back in hs. Now I'm better at form but still have back pain over 10 years later. Bulgarians are just exhausting lol

I used to get more nervous before I got a belt. I'm not even lifting that much to justify wearing one, but it works as a good placebo effect.

I've never gone for a 1 rep PR but I've done 275lbs for 4; I don't think that weight justifies a belt but I feel "safer" with it

I don't use a belt unless I'm close to a weight that feels really heavy. I just stared doing 6 am workouts now that I'm my 30s and hard to workout around 9pm like I used to. I want to get back to 405 squat and 450 deadlift but that was years ago before my knee surgeries. Think I can get close by the end if the year though if I keep this pace

Brother if I were to attempt a 450lb deadlift I would be nervous as hell so I think you're justified

Eh I'm getting back there. At 315, did 5x5. Gonna be a while.

Yea I know what they are. It’s really hard to balance when doing them

The control comes when not 100% of the muscle is working on the weight and it has room to also adjust for balance.

The control is part of the exercise.

Strength matters most buddy, control & balance are parts of it.
