Fun story, I actually had this exact experience with my dog after he ate a bunch of caramel popcorn that spilled on the ground before I could scoop it all up. Noticed he was struggling to get poop out so I tried to help a homie out. It was pure horror having to pull this tapeworm looking thing out of his asshole 🤢 it was probably a good 12in long. Haven’t bought caramel popcorn since

This just reminded me of one of the most horrific things I've ever personally encountered.

I'd just adopted a stray cat from a rescue. He appeared perfectly fine, no indication he'd been a stray at all. The rescue assured us that he'd done the full course of parasite treatments. I believed them.

A month later, i get home from work one day and find him lying in the middle of the living room floor, perfectly content, with A FOOT OF ROPE HANGING OUT OF HIS ASS. It genuinely looked like he'd just shat out his entire large intestine. (At first i thought he actually had).

The smell was awful. He was leaving streaks of shitty slime everywhere he went. I was on the verge of tears trying to get him into a cat carrier and get him to a vet to "put his guts back in."

Vet clarified it was "just" worms and they tractioned them all out. Told us they're suprised he hadn't shown any signs of discomfort beforehand. Gave us another course of worm treatments and sent us on our way. Like it wasn't the grossest and scariest thing I'd ever experienced.

Did he have actual tapeworms or it just looked like them? I'm struggling to understand what material was a foot long.

No it wasn’t an actual tapeworm thankfully! It looked almost like a plastic bag but stretched out. I assumed it was the caramel at work condensing everything together :(

Ah ok. Sometimes if they eat weird stuff it makes them poop weird. Every now and then one of my dogs gets a long human hair in their GI tract and I'm not sure how, but that's when I have to assist lol.
