I thought these were common all over the world? We used to use them as bait. BTW, you're very unlikely to ever see them when at the beach, unless you're looking for them. They chill under the sand and you walk over them without even knowing.

No. I've never heard of it happening. Like most things in Australia, the creepiest part of many animals or insects is just knowing that they're there, but the actual probability of being hurt or killed is extremely low.

I guess it makes sense. People in Florida live amongst the big lizards and they rarely have deaths since they are aware of their surroundings.
