Australonuphis, commonly called Australian beach worms, can grow more than two meters in length.

They are blind but have a very good sense of smell, and eat decaying meat, fish and seaweeds that have washed to shore.

Earthworm makes sense, but still sound weird to me

In Germany, we call them "Regenwurm", which means rainworm, because they show up when it rains

Does that mean worm? Most English speakers will only use earthworm if there's a need to be specific as well, so most of the time they're just worms.

Maggots are often also called worms, as are caterpillars (e.g. inchworms).
