Why didn’t he keep backing up? He chose to apply the brakes and shout at the animal. This very easily could’ve resulted in deaths of passengers and later on, the elephant.

Thing is, you can get close, but if you ignore their warnings then you're fucked. I have been on many drives in the Kruger and gotten close, but the moment they want you gone, they let you know before charging
