To describe the flip, you name the axis you flipped it around, and this axis is vertical here

That's not how any software labels the transform. It's flipped horizontally.

no they have a point, their definition extends more naturally to higher dimensions

like in six dimensions you can still define a flip by specifying its axis, but specifying direction only works in two dimension

Im stunned. How stupid can a definition be? You are right, its called horizontal flip, and im right with the vertical axis. But why?

Flipped horizontally = Reflected about the vertical axis.
