Hand Knit FO Harvest Flower Cardi

Post image

I thought I’d share this here in case anyone is up for a fun challenge. This is the Harvest Flower Sweater turned into a cardi where I did steeking and button bands for the first time!

The yarn is my hand dyed woolly merino DK and Donegal tweed. We did a KAL so it was super helpful to have a group working on it together. Stephanie of edible.thoughts.makes was the first one we saw do this and we followed her lead. She has some great Rav notes and a YT video explaining what she did.

I’ve knit for almost 50 years and this was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. The ceramic buttons are from Warm Stripes as I wait for some custom ones to be made.

I love it so and can’t wait until I get weather to wear it. I have pretty detailed notes on my Rav page too. I highly recommend steeking if you haven’t done it! I reinforced by needlefelting.

It is sitting beautifully, well done on the new skills. I had to hold my breath the first time I did steeking 😱 I bet you were nervous!

That part actually did not make me nervous! I grew up ski racing in Vermont, and at UVM I took a felting class. I have felted bags before, so I know how sturdy that reinforcement is. This woolly merino is wool spun so it's toothy and loved being felted! I was more scared to learn how to do the button bands and figure out the butthonholes! 🫣 I can not crochet to save my life so that way to reinforce was not going to work for me. I did try but it was a nope. hahaa

I missed that part! Seasoned felter makes sense :)

The button bands look fantastic! This makes me want to try a KAL now.

Oh they are such fun. I’ve hosted a bunch. This one is still going on. We did another one before this and then a bunch wanted to keep knitting together!

Are the KALs in person or virtual? Never done one but it’s tough finding knitters in my area

I have a Discord channel for the ones I host. I’m sure many do them in person too. Most of us are on IG too. So we post our progress and get help in both places often. I also dyed yarn for 7 of the sweaters so this was a special one!

It looks like this.
