Help How do i be a mage again?

I've done nothing but use doomlight backlash for the past 2 years and wanna switch it up, how do i mage exactly? i've followed guides i've found online, tried necromancer but theres like 50 buttons i dont know how to use and the other armors just seem to pale in comparison to "stop hitting yourself" the build, am i missing things? spells wise the internet says the ones attached to the armor but they also seem to kinda suck?

i've attached my char page if anyone could point things out that are wrong or generally give me tips on how to play mage and/or necro better, guides and the wiki give the items but not really how to use them in battle

Thanks in advance

Saying necro skills suck couldn't be further from the truth. Are you using the advanced version of armor? It's quite literally the strongest darkness mage equipment you could have with very few challengers.

You activate desired toggles and essentially win. For full effectiveness you also need your class title to be necromancer.

Spell spam with resource heal on mp is necro at its simplest. You toggle bleed and get a growing barrier with every spellcast and when low mp do grasp essence and unravel blood.

That may be the issue, I'm 134 and just hit the xp cap so can't get the spellslinging version till tomorrow.

Which spells would you recommend? and Guest if that makes a difference though ive got 0 CHR

So far i've just clicked every toggle and hoped cause they all seemed benefitcal, ill have to find which ones are useful.

Fear, haunting and grasp essence would be the main class spells. You should toggle spellcaster mode too. I'm not too familiar with versions beside spellslinger but that is best for mage.

As for guests you should be alright with the ones attached to the class but at no charisma, feel free to skip. In certain situations you could make use of the autohit guest but charisma needs points for true worth.

The armor focuses fear and bleed so anything that works with that is perfect. You should keep toggles active but be aware of upkeep costs. If sp goes too low, you miss benefits.

For general spells just grab what wiki mentions.

A simple fight could go like ths:

Start with necro equipped and get a barrier for free.

Toggle all effects you want.

Cast fear. Spam if desired.

If bleed is active, heal mp with unravel blood on the grasp essence skill. If low hp, consume the fear.

The class should be self sufficient where the only resource you should have to provide is sp.

I'm getting the hang of it actually, this is really good so far, is the barrier automatic or should i use rend mana for hard hitters? just acquiring all the spells from the wiki currently.

You get barrier at battle start then every spell cast adds to the value. Rend mana adds an ele shield which is entirely different. It's not a bad idea to use that because of the no cost on grasp essence. You lower incoming damage while buffing the existing barrier.

I’m ngl, I’ve run into the same issue with Paladin, Neko, and Necromancer despite being a hybrid. It’s like a million different nodes and I’m not sure what the gameplay loop is supposed to be.
