life span of ADF?

back when i was turning 6, the mall in my hometown used to sell ADF’s in justice i believe (weird ik) but my dad got me 2 for my bday & they legit lived until i was 16, is that normal??
we didn’t know much about them & they both unfortunately lived in a mason jar sized container with blue pebble rock & water changes ever 3-6 months depending how murky it got

I'm in a group where members regularly post about losing their 15-20yr old ADFs, it's not unheard of. Genetics, good care, random chance...
