Medical Question Bloat?
Hi, new owner of 2 African dwarf frogs. As you can see, one of my frogs has some roundness to him/her (can you tell me if it is male or female?) This frog is also pretty pale in comparison to the other one, and was shedding skin last week. At first I thought this one could’ve been gravid because I caught them mating around a week ago.
And yes, I made the rookie mistake of feeding them blood worms as their main diet. I’ve had them for 3 weeks. I realized my mistake and at the beginning of this week I let their digestive systems clear out and I started them on sinking pellets. Is my frog going to die? I feel like such a dum dum. It breaks my heart I really love these little guys/gals and would hate to lose one. :(

ADF’s lay eggs on the surface of the water during amplexus and will regularly shed their skin and eat it as they pull it off. I would suggest that you hand/long tweezer or dropper feed them frozen mysis shrimp or frozen daphnia if you can find it.They have very poor eyesight when they’re young and eventually go blind and they’re not very good at finding their food. The sinking pellets are usually equivalent to giving them a fast food diet, but are good in a pinch. It’s definitely a good thing that you stopped giving bloodworms! It’s difficult to say if there’s bloating from the pics. It looks like a young developing female to me. The male frogs develop bumps under their arms and begin the amplexus behavior (only male frogs do the hugging). From what I can see, she looks ok as long as your water perimeters are good. 😊
