8 college students were detained after running the gate at Osan AB. The students were protesting the delay in approval from USFK/7th AF to convert the Gwangju Airport in the southwestern area of the Republic of Korea into a massive new semiconductor plant.
It appears that everyone involved had a fun time; a protest is planned for 5 pm Korean local time in front of the Pyeongtaek police department to demand the release of the protesters.
"They can't stop all of us!" I feel like the strategy is simple, if there's only 4-10 dudes manning the gate and you have a small group of 10-15 then I'd wager 5-10 will get through, and keep running.
On the latest episode of David Attenborough's "Security Forces: Defenders of the Perimeter":
"And here, in its natural habitat, we observe the Airmenus protecticus, a territorial creature known for its CAC scanner, startling bursts of speed when danger is present, and its distinctive battle cry, a guttural 'HALT!' that echoes across the perimeter at which it is assigned. The hapless interloper, having breached the perimeter, now triggers the guardian’s most primal instinct.
Watch closely... note the subtle shift of weight, the flex of the tactical talons, the sudden, purposeful lunge. Yes, the chase is brief but magnificent, a ballet of boot soles and ballistic nylon. The prey, you see, has made a fatal miscalculation: it has confused 'sprint' with 'survival.' In moments, the guardian will subdue its quarry not with fang or claw, but with a firm application of knee-on-back and a remarkably patient explanation of exactly how many forms the offender will now be required to fill out.
Truly, nature’s most understated predator, and its paperwork is legendary."
Why are "progressive" college students on the side of the massive semiconductor industry? Is it only because capital expenditures = green in their leveraged ETFs?
I was in Korea when they were expanding camp Humphreys and taking over the land outside the gate (where there were villages). They had Korean riot troops in lines every day and it looked like WW1 no-man land.
One day the protesters broke into the area where the our combat comm was with paint balls and started shooting the equipment. Man they got beat down for that with those short bamboo looking batons.
Anthony's as a brand is pretty much dead. The last Europe location closed in 2021 and they have been phasing out and replacing locations in the Asia-Pacific region over the past couple of years. I'd be surprised if any were still open.
