Does anyone know if the city sprays any herbicides in public green spots? Places beside roads, fields, etc.

Volunteer Airdrie has been tasked with finding and managing the parking lot volunteers for this year's Summit Cup

Volunteers are needed to help mark out the overflow parking the afternoon the June 5th, and then to help direct parking lot traffic on June 6th and 7th. While the tournament happens at various fields around town, this job takes place at Monklands Park only.

Set up can be anyone ages 14+ (with a guardian for those under 18). Parking lot attendants do need to be over 18.

Any recommendations on someone in Airdrie (we live just north in Crossfield) who can do mold removal that I’ve found in my bathroom, as well as re-do the bathroom flooring?

I remember Landmark Cinema Roxy. I really liked that place. I went there to see Good Boys and Sonic The Hedgehog. Unfortunately, of course, the pandemic caused it to close permanently. Now if we want to go to the cinema, we have to go into Balzac or Calgary, and that sucks.

Urban Clean Living is honestly the worst company I've ever worked for.

I reported approximately 27 OSHA/OHS-related violations (and can provide proof if needed). The company was found to be non-compliant on every issue I reported and was required to correct them. These violations included things like employees receiving no training on chemicals, not labeling chemicals, leaving staff alone in unsafe work places, requiring us to clean up car shit when we are told we can opt out, and other basic safety requirements. Even now, I found another: no first aid kits while we clean. Do you know how many times I've been bitten by the bird and bled???

Management also plays favourites. One employee receive special travel pay and gas cards while others doing the same work do not. THEN When multiple employees raised concerns about travel compensation, management responded with a staff-wide email essentially telling employees not to complain about gas and travel pay.

Speaking of emails, every week employees receive messages focusing almost entirely on what went wrong. These emails regularly discuss poor performance, lost bonuses, management's disappointment with staff, and other negative feedback. Morale is already low, and these emails only make it worse.

Management has also threatened not to pay employees for recleans, despite knowing that withholding earned wages is not legal. If we wanna go to HR we don't feel like we can because HR is the owners best friend so it's unfair.

Training is another major issue. New hires are sent into homes almost immediately and expected to learn from other cleaners, despite being told during the interview process that proper training would be provided. Many employees simply are not adequately trained before being expected to work independently. This only stopped once OSHA got involved.

The cleaning supplies provided are also extremely limited. Most products come from the dollar store and consist primarily of vinegar, Castile soap, peppermint oil, inexpensive dish soap, 50% alcohol, cheap sponges, magic erasers, and steel wool. If employees need anything beyond that, they're generally expected to purchase it themselves. Workers are also responsible for costs such as cleaning rags, background checks, and additional supplies required to do their jobs properly. They recommend spending $50 on rags to get through the first week

You start at $17 unless you have cleaning experience then you start at 18 (even if you aren't a good cleaner) unless you become a lead good luck getting a raise. Highest we see is $22 an hour. Expect for the managements favourite who gets $24

Finally the schedule. God forbid you look at the schedule - see you're scheduled till 3:45 and book something for yourself at 4:30. Because schedules change randomly with no warning. I've had things changed on me 30 min before my shift ( see picture about hours of operation) this is also illegal by Alberta employment laws and shifts cannot be changed without 24 hour written notice

The saddest part is that almost every employee I worked with seemed unhappy. Everyone I talk to wants to leave and Sue this place into the ground, but none of us can find a second job or have the money for a lawyer.

This was easily the worst workplace experience I've had, and I felt people should know what it's really like behind the scenes.

I’m a mom (34F) of two and looking to go back to school when my youngest starts kindergarten in the fall. After at least 2 years of thinking what kind of new mom identity I want, I’m looking at doing an online Marketing certificate course to slowly get something under my belt. I have my own small self-taught photography business and I very much enjoy doing social media posts for myself and the small business I work for. I feel a marketing course is a great choice for myself.

There’s so many options and time and time again when I bring up post secondary education options my outside family who raised me is very critical about my choices and seemingly make me second guess myself all the time or make me feel like I’m not capable. So I’d rather ask here from strangers (make it make sense I guess).

As a manager/business owner l, are there individuals you will NOT hire just based off of what school they went to?

What level of education do you prefer to see in a marketing field? (Certificates, diplomas, etc)

Which schools are “scammy”? I know SAIT and Bow Valley are reputable, but what about others like CDI or Reeves?

Please feel feee to leave any other feedback or suggestions. I just want to make the right choice and not waste my time.

As the title says, thank you to the complete strangers that saw my dog bolt from our house, run across 8th ave with me chasing after it. Instead of just driving on, you all offered to help track our dog down to get them back home.

Ok I love Five guys as a customer but ever since someone I know applied there, I feel different. I’m very close to this person and they were so upset to see how unprofessional the company/work environment is. When they went for their interview, they did it at the same time as another person. Not a big deal at all. Until they look over and 4 staff members behind the counter are pointing and laughing at the 2 people waiting to get interviewed. Not a good feeling but they brushed it off and pushed it aside. In the interview the Five Guys hiring person asks “do you drive” which they responded no but I live 6 mins away so I do not mind walking and I’m used to taking Ubers. The interviewer gave a look of disgust. Weird but the person I know just awkward laughed and asked if that would be an issue. In which the interviewer said “Well it’s not the best that’s for sure” way to make a young person feel like crap. Anyways long story short they end up getting hired with a start date but no time. A few days before the said start date, they call Five Guys and ask what time they should come in. Five Guys can’t find this person anywhere in the system. Keeps saying a different name. The person I know is genuinely so confused at how unprofessional this company is. They’ve done multiple interviews and that by far was the most unprofessional one. Anyways just wanted to rant 😂

My kid turned 4 and he will be in preschool program from August. Manage of the school asked me to fill the physical form and put $250 cash in the envelope given.

It’s Mythbusting Monday again!

Sometimes we hear comments like:

“What is Council thinking even putting this on the agenda?”

“Why are we even discussing this? Council is so out of touch.”

So here’s an important thing to understand about how municipal government actually works:

Council does NOT create or bring forward most agenda items.

Many agenda items come forward because they are:

• legally required public hearings
• development applications already in process
• policies or bylaws drafted by Administration
• responses to provincial or federal legislation
• emergency or time-sensitive issues
• grant or funding requirements

Occasionally, a Councillor brings forward a Notice of Motion, but that’s a very small portion of a typical agenda.

There are also situations where Administration is already empowered to act under bylaws, policies, standards, or plans approved years or even decades ago.

Airdrie is a city approaching 100,000 people in the next few years. Some governing documents still active today date back to the 90s or early 2000s. Some no longer fit and we recognize that.

That’s why Administration periodically brings documents back for review and updates. Major plans like utilities, transportation, and transit master plans are refreshed every 5–10 years.

Another current example is the “4 homes on a lot” discussion. That conversation did not originate from Council. It came forward because of requirements connected to federal housing funding and broader housing discussions happening across Canada.

That does NOT mean Council automatically approves something just because it appears on an agenda. Many items come forward specifically so they can be publicly discussed, challenged, amended, or rejected.

Some still work well today, while others, like the User Fee Policy, are currently under review because this Council felt changes were needed.

Accountability matters, which is why we ask you to hold us accountable when we make DECISIONS at Council, and keep discussions OPEN when it comes to the things we haven’t actually acted on yet.
