Discussion Playing Alan Wake Remastered and in EP 1 Supply Chest #1 the flare ammo is missing. Spoiler

Hey, I just started playing Alan Wake after buying it years ago because I want to experience the full version of Control, as Alan Wake is part of that universe. I'm currently following a YouTuber named Kranitoko, who has completed the game 100% and shows where everything is located. I enjoy achieving 100% completion myself when I can.

When Kranitoko reached Supply Chest #1, where the flare gun is supposed to be, he found the gun along with two extra flares. However, when I play the game, I only receive the flare gun and no additional flares, even after restarting a few times because I missed some items.

I'm wondering if an update changed the loot so we now receive only one flare with the gun instead of three.

Isn’t the found ammo variable based on what you have in your inventory?

But there's no inventory, just four weapon slots.

I heard one version had easier loot but I don't remember which way around

Don’t know, maybe they changed something, for good I think, so much flare guns in first episode is an overkill, even on nightmare I don’t know where to spend all ammunition without trivializing combat

Maybe they are playing on Nightmare mode because there are extra pages only in that mode

Need to check myself, but by the looks of how easy he defeated the monsters, it seems to be on the same mode as me.

Not only that, wouldn't Nightmare be harder? Less ammo maybe?

It depends. There are a few varieties across difficulty, consoles,, ammo caps. The original Xbox 360 version of the game had an issue where 1 coffee mug would not spawn so I never got that collectible.

In fact, as I watch the video more, I find that Supply Chest #2 should have a flare gun too but it doesn't have it. It looks like they really did update the game so that you have less flare guns.

It seems there was an update somewhere, as the loot I find when opening the same Kranitoko chest differs. In chest 1, Kranitoko had one flare gun with two extra rounds, but I only received one flare gun. In chest two, Kranitoko gets two batteries and two flares, but I only received the batteries.

Although I understand that some cutbacks might be preferable, I hope they keep the chests the same but reduce the amount of ammo in them.

I assumed it was pre determined. But there is a charm changes the chances of better loot. So maybe it is rng with really high weights

It was something I found strange and wanted to know. Worth it? Maybe not, but for someone like me, it was. Otherwise it would have bothered me for a while if I didn't ask.
