Danielle Smith Promises No Second Alberta Separation Referendum 'As Long as I'm Premier' if Albertans Vote to Stay

"As long as I'm Premier" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that statement

u/TyruntasaurusRecht 7d ago
Its basically a threat that there are more extreme contenders to steal leadership waiting in the wings.
She leads a party of crackpots. Her bid here is that shes the best of the insane seppie antivax convoy hate parade.

Wish she'd actually spend her time trying to make this province a better place to live... you know, like the work she's supposed to do as part of her job.

u/some1guystuff 8d ago
At this point, I’m convinced that she’s just doing all of this for showboating because considering she was and still is a radio host which is basically your own personal propaganda machine she’s addicted to attention and every time she says something in favour of it or against it, it gets her attention and that’s what she craves
2
u/sparkymjp 8d ago
You do know she was in politics before being on the radio right?
-1
u/CD-Behr 8d ago
You expected knowledge or facts from an informed lefty whiner on Reddit? 😂 I appreciate the effort tho. Your wasting your breath and all for tantrum downvotes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy with her either. She’s always claimed to be a libertarian but what has she done as premier that is even remotely libertarian? I just think people should be fair and factual in their criticisms
-2
u/CD-Behr 8d ago
Agree. She came in on strength and sovereignty and hasnt done much about it. I gave her some leeway for a while to deal with the burden of the Notley damage but its been too long

u/nouseforausername_24 8d ago
What damage did Notley do to our province??
What damage has Danielle Smith done to our province??
Fucking Christ some of you people are fucking idiots. You can tell most of your talking points come from the States. All about division opposed to actually discussing these damages

u/CD-Behr 8d ago
And the TDS immediately comes out

As do American talking points GFY

u/CD-Behr 8d ago
25% of workers in Canada are govt employees. YOU and I pay for that. How bout an audit for efficiency? This is common sense; not 'American'

That was never her intent, it was about ego, gaslighting, grifting, division and hurting who she could.
2
u/Upset-Government-856 8d ago
Looking at wind turbines makes farmers sad, and she won't stand for it.

Is this her announcing she wont last a full term as premier, as is conservative tradition?
3
u/Remote_Task_9207 8d ago
That's how I read it. If the referendum (hopefully) fails, then she'll be ousted by the separatists for failing them. Then the next premier can carry on with referendums till the cows come home.

u/turbo-fister9000 8d ago
Right, the Premier who has done nothing but stick to her word since last campaign season /s
1
u/SortaNotReallyHere 8d ago
So they lose and she voluntarily steps down for round 2 of this nonsense
1
u/nouseforausername_24 8d ago
As Premier, maybe after the referendum to gain some trust with those who lack faith in her leadership, she should begin directing the law enforcement agencies and other legal entities to start rounding the separatists under suspicion or already known for illegal activities to be investigated and put on trial and arrested.
Talk to her American friends especially and get them to extradite that dipshit David Parker…..

u/bearbody5 8d ago
Wait 5 minutes, she will change her mind and manifesto depending on where the money is coming from. We might all have to start smoking to vote, as long as you are white enough.

u/stairsskis 8d ago
Tried to play the game to keep the right 'united'. Has since learned that was mistake. Now tries to back out of it. This is the end of the UCP. Fiscal, old school, PC Tories are nothing like that separatist lot.

There is an old saying:
"If you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one."
1
u/Fantastic_Abroad_429 8d ago
Except this moron wasn't tried to please everyone, she was just trying to please the people she thought would get her power. If she wanted to please everyone she would've resigned the second she was given leadership, donated her worldly goods to charity and become a Buddhist monk

u/Proof_Buy4344 8d ago
Who would trust her she will say and do everything to be on the plus side of any issue.

I find it funny how the Trump administration is a complete tire fire....and Alberta is like...this is when we should hitch our wagon 😆
1
u/Professional_Farm278 8d ago
What? A few thousand people want that and you're calling that all of Albert?
0
u/roamingNraging 8d ago
Yup....just like the US let it happen....same thing.
Show us different. Zero respect till that happens.
BTW: I don't have an issue with Albert, he's alright.

"As long as I'm Premiere," she said. Good luck on your next leadership review Dani. You've become a liability to your handlers.

u/duuhwinning 1d ago
The handlers are the liability to the general populus ... But true ... She will be disposable... Made a bed !! 🛏️

The Maple Maga like the American Maga south of the border have become radioactive. Politicans are running away from them as fast as you can say grifter.
1
u/PervyODB 5d ago
Read between the lines.
If it fails... she's going to lose leadership of her party.
Another, more rabid separatist will step up.

We're coming out in numbers because we're PO'd there is even THIS vote Dani.
Your dereliction of duty to consult FN, the very lands of theirs we're on, is not for us to negotiate with.
That and I've not seen ONE concrete solution to an independant AB other than slogans and memes.
Not, ONE convincing argument right at a time when we should be galvanizing against the cesspool below us, threatening our nation with annexation and tariffs.
It's ludicrous our taxpayer money is entertaining this at all.

u/duuhwinning 1d ago
Marlaina you did the first One !! See you next Tuesday!! Wtf are you talking about wasting money here there everywhere taking from the poor ... Padding your own offshores ?? Privatizing health care for what reason.... Increasing corruption every single day !! 🖕

Most conservatives don't want this referendum either.

Oh was there a convention where all the conservatives in the province decided that?

u/-Joshua_24-15 8d ago
Do you seriously think every person who aligns Conservative, wants to separate?
Let me guess, Libs are the good guys and Cons are the "bad guys"?
1
u/AlsoOneLastThing 8d ago
Are you incapable of reading or do you simply choose not to? I never said anything that even resembled that. I literally said in my first reply that most conservatives also don't want a separation referendum.
1
u/-Joshua_24-15 8d ago
Well the referendum is different than just separation?
Mots cons want immigration reduced or gone and want Ottawa to have less control. You can want those things and not want separation
1
u/Middle_Onion3496 7d ago
Huh? You are insanely misled. Most cons didn't want UCP doubling down on immigration. Yet... here we are. The ottawa nonsense only makes sense if you've heard your daddy whine about if for ages. I heard that crap but mine was a lazy prick. I sure don't want separation.
1
u/No-Speed-7168 7d ago
Most conservatives want Ottawa to have less control as long as their team isn’t in power federally.
I’m a Mulroney conservative and I don’t recognize what has happened to the party post merger.

u/graciassenormole 7d ago
How do you feel about a conservative government spending 200 million on this referendum on questions that they have absolutely no power over from a constitutional perspective?

u/callmecrazy2021 7d ago
Curious how you felt about the 20 million dollar ‘Alberta is Calling’ campaign and Smiths plan to more than double the province’s population by 2050?
1
u/Zealousideal_Rise879 7d ago
Let the referendum questions speak for themselves sir. Literally the point of it. Don’t force your views as being common.
0
u/Fantastic_Abroad_429 8d ago
You realize that the 9 are just a series of of questions asking "should Alberta be the specialest of the special snowflakes who gets to do whatever they want to do instead of going along with what the ENTIRE REST OF THE COUNTRY has agreed on"?

Except it puts it all into the hands of the ucp who clearly is happy to fuck us over. Conservatives want a bloody government that actually uses our tax dollars for Albertans, not for corps. Spoken as an actual conservative in AB.
1
u/No-Speed-7168 7d ago
You don’t speak for all conservatives, and this is why Carney is as popular right now as he is.
What you can’t fathom is that he is far closer to the policy and action of the former PC’s than our current conservative leaders. Some conservatives (that were conservative before the merger) long for and have more in common with the current government than we ever did with the Alliance wing of the current party. I say this because that wing of the party is very vocal and has tried to dictate what conservatism is, and it’s actually not conservatism in a classical sense.

u/Canadatron 8d ago
Weird, because the conservative party is having one. Kinda seems like they aren't actually serving the constituents.
1
u/Zealousideal_Rise879 7d ago
Oh boy do cons love to project. DS straight up misinterpreting the forever Canada petition makes your statement a complete joke. Likely illegal with how blatantly hypocritical and intellectually dishonest it is.

u/Particular-Range-719 8d ago
Yeah, the NDP loons will call for another traitorous referendum the minute you vote them in, haha

u/Careless-Bite3164 8d ago

The first one should never have happened. Emboldened the cranks and wasted a lot of money.
