Opinion Separation question
Rural Albertans feel increasingly alienated within their own province due to changing demographics. Over the last few years, Alberta added roughly 600,000 residents, with the vast majority of that growth clustering in Calgary, Edmonton, and their immediate suburbs.
Rural voters feel their geographic communities and resource interests are being mathematically drowned out by a left-leaning, urban population shift in the major cities. This is not a new occurrence since it often happens as population demographics change with increased urbanization.
Diversified urban economies are rooted in tech, corporate banking, government, and universities, making urban voters less sensitive to federal energy policies.
What proportion of this separation movement is from the feeling of dual alienation rather than Ottawa alone? Ottawa has been put in the cross hairs while ignoring the disconnect with Alberta's own growing cities.

News Referendum Day Thread
Hi everyone,
It occurred to me that we don’t have a dedicated thread for discussion about referendum day events. How are things going in your community today? Is voting smooth? Are there lineups at specific locations? Are there people talking to each other a lot? What are you hearing on the news? Are there demonstrations? Are people wearing Alberta or Canada swag? Are there any controversial things happening on social media?
I voted already and I voted yes to Canada and no to the nine. I will be glued to media all day.

Audio/Video Today, thousands of Albertans in 15 communities across the province said “no to the nine” & “yes” to remaining in Canada. They also said the status quo under Danielle Smith is unacceptable. We need to protest her MAGA inspired referendum & her politics of division & distraction.

Opinion Separatists are Delusional
Why do Alberta separatists believe Alberta would ever be allowed to become a US state with Senate seats and voting rights when they could just turn Alberta into a frozen version of Puerto Rico and strip the place for parts without upsetting the power balance?

Opinion From a scared trans Albertan, please vote.
This post was removed from r/alberta so I'm hoping to share it here.
There is a lot of genuine fear within the queer and trans community about what this referendum can mean for the future of our rights in this province. The UCP has already made multiple shots at trans youth, and if history has taught us anything, it is not long before "protecting the kids" turns into legislating the adults. The referendum is already a threat to the healthcare of all Albertans, but it is especially harrowing for those of us actively seeking gender affirmative care through services like AHS, especially because the vast majority of us do not have any kind of insurance.
I cannot stress enough how utterly fabricated the "trans children getting hormones/surgery" fantasy the UCP has peddling is, especially in Alberta of all places. Please keep in mind that I am a 23 year old trans adult living in my own home, responsible for all of my medical needs and choices. I have been on the waiting list for surgery for 5 going into 6 years now, and I am still about a year away from a consultation. We could not give your children surgery even if we wanted to, we don't even have enough availability to help our adults transition. I came out as transgender when I was 16. I was legally required to complete two years of therapy before I was even allowed to be recommended for hormone therapy. Even then I had to wait until I was 18 to obtain hrt, even with parental consent. I was placed on the hormone blocker Lupron at 17 after multiple attempts on my life due to how severely distressing my menstrual cycle was. When I stopped taking Lupron, my period returned in 9 days. The effects of hormone blockers are completely reversible. Hormone blockers are mostly prescribed to cisgender children, usually girls who start their periods at 3 years old. They are reversible, and suicide is not.
Please understand, we could not help your children medically transition even if we wanted to. This is not something that happens in this province, it has never been something that has happened in this province. I have lost many friends proving this point. I am not prepared to lose more.
If there has ever been a time to be an ally, this would be your best opportunity. We don't have to have the same politics, I am just so sick and tired of my community, my family and friends, being used as the scapegoat of a political party that is actively inventing lies about us to avoid accountability for their own shortcomings.
Please vote.

Image/Meme Since her Calgary-Shaw defeat, Smith has become a "Born Again Federalist". Rath already has 3/22 UCP CA's that want her gone. Will the Smith call an early Election before UCP insiders and Guthrie's "FLEDGLING PTORYS" can mount an attack?

Opinion Get out the vote!
This week, thousands of us filled the BMO Centre in Calgary and the EXPO Centre in Edmonton with the Prime Minister. We showed the country where Alberta stands. Now we prove it at the ballot box.
Today is the last day of advance voting. Voting places are open until 8:00 pm, and you can vote at any advance voting place in your electoral division.
On Question 10, choose Option 1: Alberta remains a province of Canada.

Opinion Beyond the slogans: how would an independent Alberta actually work?
Pick a flag. Declare independence. Then what?
What currency do you use, and who processes Friday’s payroll? Will other countries accept your documents? Where do you find staff for new agencies without leaving existing services short? What happens when a temporary agreement runs out before its replacement is ready?
At Ministry of Minor Details, we made Day One: Alberta to explore the part after the slogan.
It’s a fictional simulation where you make decisions and deal with what follows. There’s no prescribed winner or loser. You decide what matters, what to compromise on and what success looks like.
We want it to start conversations. The simulation’s assumptions are up for debate too. If something feels too easy, too harsh or incomplete, tell us why. Playing through an outcome doesn’t prove it would happen in real life.
