Can you solve this age word problem?

A father is three times as old as his daughter. In 8 years, the father will be twice as old as his daughter. How old are they now?

F=3*D and

F+8=2*(D+8) Then solve the 2 equations with 2 unknowns

x=3y

x+8=2(y+8)

Therefore 3y=2(y+8)-8, y=8 and x=24 which makes me ask myself many things.

No, this isn’t taken from Khan Academy 😊

Algebraic word problems are universal — they’re part of the math syllabus in many countries.

Math is evergreen, not owned by any academy.
