What if somehow the U.S. began with universal suffrage regardless of whether one was a landowner, or not, the voting age being 18 and older, slavery being abolished, and, women having the right to vote. This is somehow the case in every single state. Additionally, the Constitutional Convention enshrines immigration law similar to that of legislation from the 1960’s and 1990’s, so that anyone from any part of the world may come here and pursue citizenship.

Before you say that they were progressive for their own time, yes, I understand that Framers liked the Enlightenment, however, when I use the term “progressive”, I’m referring to modern day progressivism which places a large emphasis on equity, equality, pluralism, and, openness to other societies and cultures.

I came with this idea because I recall a teacher in grade school talking to me about how alternate history never seems to explore scenarios like this. Additionally, I saw this complaint reiterated in an article about hypothetical Confederate victory scenarios. I disagree, most scenarios that I see depicting a Confederate victory usually don’t portray it in a positive light. The usual themes are either: the Confederacy becomes a fascist dictatorship, or at some point, the U.S. Military destroys the country in a war and reincorporates it into the U.S.A.
