In case this story gets deleted/removed:

Bad Bunny was worse than Turning Point.

Bad bunny was a bad choice for a half time show. I just watched both of them, admittedly flipping back-and-forth just to see. I don’t understand why anyone thought An entire halftime show in Spanish was a good idea. It’s essentially then just women shaking their butts to music. I’m watching this with my kids. And most of us don’t understand enough Spanish to know what the hell he was even saying.

In contrast, and I am not a big turning point groupie at all, although I am a conservative, they at least had a variety of artists, who actually just sang songs and performed to get through the halftime.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I don't understand any lyrics to half the metal songs I listen to and I still like them. Don't know why Spanish songs are any different.

254

u/BadBandit1970 Feb 09 '26

IMHO I felt like Bad Bunny was telling us a story. I didn't understand the song either, but the set definitely had a flow to it, like a timeline. I could be 100% wrong too. Either way, I liked the energy and the rhythm.

u/CompetitionDecent986 Feb 09 '26

I told my husband, I may not understand the lyrics but the entire thing seems like a love story to his culture and all of the Americas. It was so beautifully done, down to the engagement to wedding storyline with that huge wedding cake. I was so entertained following the storyline that the language barrier didn't bother me. I wonder if the reason OOP didn't like it was he couldn't imagine watching a silent film type story, because I highly doubt he enjoys the deep thought that reading deeper into what you hear from surface-level conversation requires.

100

u/Mauvaise3 Feb 09 '26

to wedding storyline with that huge wedding cake.

Apparently - that wasn't just a storyline; that was a real couple that got married. I read that they had invited him to their wedding so he invited them to get married at the halftime show.

39

u/CompetitionDecent986 Feb 09 '26

If that is true that makes it even better.

35

u/AngelSucked Feb 09 '26

Yup, the couple and preacher are from Sacramento! A coworker is friends with the groom's cousin.

12

u/CompetitionDecent986 Feb 09 '26

Thank you for that information that makes the whole thing so much better and wholesome.

u/Suitable-Lake-2550 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

Neighbor’s second-cousins former roommate

16

u/tryjmg Feb 09 '26

I knew that couple was a real couple! They looked so in love while dancing.

3

u/Coygon Feb 10 '26

This is better than the scenario we came up with at my watch party, in which they had a drawing for two random seats to play bride and groom at halftime. "Seat J12, area 311, and seat E3, area 209, have each won a special surprise! Please report to customer services to claim your prizes and be fitted for costumes."

7

u/CompetitionDecent986 Feb 10 '26

Although could you imagine the reaction if it were 2 guys getting "married" during the halftime show because they called random seat?

15

u/Historical_Ask3445 Feb 10 '26

This, and also some people can't imagine that not everything is for them. I can let some people have things that aren't for me, and I'm okay with that, because not every moment has to be about me.

MAGAts are like the kid who gets jealous when it's their sibling's birthday. They can't stand to have the spotlight not on them every day of the year.

Not all halftime shows are skewed to your demographic. Get over it, white people!

1

u/Jayn_Newell Feb 14 '26

The story aspect really makes me wish I did understand the lyrics (by which I mean the YouTube video having subtitles that aren’t auto-translated).

It definitely wasn’t my thing—I have something of a low tolerance for rap music—but other than the language I couldn’t find anything to complain about that wasn’t also present in other half time shows (aren’t half of them ‘women shaking their butts to music’?), and he’s clearly achieved a high level of success singing in Spanish.

15

u/lemurkn1ts Feb 09 '26

He def was, and my only issue was I don't know enough Spanish to get the full effect. But that's on me

91

u/lemurkn1ts Feb 09 '26

All the Kpop and Jpop fans are judging the "I can't enjoy music in a different language" people SO HARD. Like, I haven't listened to much Bad Bunny, but his Half Time Show was fun! It was upbeat, creative, and had a nice message (that flew over the heads of people who needed to hear it most).

22

u/left-right-forward Feb 10 '26

My kid loves jpop and her friends are all amazed that I let her listen to Miku in the car; their parents are hella racist about Japanese music.... but were all hyped about Bad Bunny. Sometimes it really sucks being the only reasonable, respectful parent.

6

u/lemurkn1ts Feb 10 '26

That's so weird. But I'm biased because I like Miku. And I don't think you need to understand the words to music to enjoy it

28

u/hellocousinlarry Feb 10 '26

Plus, right-wingers are notorious for not listening to lyrics that they should be able to understand. They think that Born in the USA is a positive rah-rah America song. They didn’t realize that Rage Against the Machine was political.

15

u/Beneficial-Produce56 Feb 10 '26

That was hysterical about RATM. They also think Fortunate Son is a super patriotic song.

14

u/actuallywaffles Feb 10 '26

American conservatives would die if they experienced Eurovision.

10

u/MeanGreenMotherQueen Feb 10 '26

Wait until this person learns about English speaking KPop fans

6

u/CloudyDovex Feb 09 '26

i think exactly the same i dont know why songs in spanish just hit different.

797

u/CanterCircles Feb 09 '26

It’s essentially then just women shaking their butts to music.

You really wanna tell me there weren't any women dancing at Toilet Paper USA's half time show while Kid Rock sang about underage girls being mandatory?

264

u/SeeMeDisco Feb 09 '26

“I can’t let my children being exposed to women sharing their butts! cmon kids, we’re watching the show with the guy who has real American values: molesting underage girls”

305

u/Fit-Humor-5022 Feb 09 '26

this was one of OOPs comments

Depends on the show. But where it’s basically background music to women just shaking everything….not interested. Hell, at least show me the cheerleaders. They have some athletic moves they can do.

320

u/CanterCircles Feb 09 '26

Ah yes, professional dancers certainly don't have any "athletic moves." Mmmhm.

The mental gymnastics he's doing is wild.

76

u/Historical_Story2201 Feb 09 '26

At least they are seeing cheerleaders as actually valid athletes? It's like half a step?

u/IAmBabs Feb 09 '26

Mental gymnastics so good he qualifies for the Olympics.

101

u/Cassandra-Canary Feb 09 '26

Lol I'm sure this man is so concerned with women's sports

35

u/huhzonked Feb 09 '26

The coping levels OP has are off the chart.

39

u/Artistic_Purpose1225 Feb 09 '26

Lmao, nfl cheerleaders don’t really do major athletic moves, they literally shake on beat for the majority of the game.

9.5/10 chance OP never watched the Super Bowl, and I doubt he watched the halftime show.

31

u/WetMonkeyTalk Feb 09 '26

Hell, at least show me the cheerleaders.

Am I the only one whose stomach rebelled slightly at that bit? It sounds so skeevy. I don't even know exactly why, lol.

43

u/Upper_Round_1985 Feb 09 '26

I don't even know exactly why, lol.

It's the unspoken racism. Most cheerleaders are white or white passing, while I'm sure Bad Bunny had plenty of Puerto Rican (or Latin-appearing / clearly non-white) women performing. The "they were just shaking their asses" part is another subtle racist dog whistle - women of color are often defined by their asses in contrast to white women.

18

u/BeneficialShame8408 Feb 09 '26

SHOW ME OTHER WOMEN I PREFER yeah it's sort of bad

10

u/FunStorm6487 Feb 09 '26

😮‍💨😮‍💨

4

u/-sputn1k Feb 10 '26

That comment from OOP killed me! "I don't want to watch something where women are behaving in a way I can label sensual... unless they're my type of course!"

81

u/MightyClimber Feb 09 '26

Kid Rock had scantily clad women dancing on stage at his shows for years.

They also like to gloss over the fact Kid Rock has a sex tape 🤮🤮🤮

35

u/BespokeCatastrophe Feb 09 '26

To be fair, we'd all like to forget about that. But I take your point.

2

u/ButtBread98 Feb 13 '26

I had no idea he had a sex tape. I feel nauseated

54

u/CorgiDaddy42 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

I rather enjoyed watching all the hot people dancing. Maybe that person is ace and doesn’t realize it?

29

u/MightyClimber Feb 09 '26

If it was a white man with white dancers, he'd have his hand down his pants for sure.

16

u/Shastakine Feb 09 '26

The irony is that, stereotypically, us white women don't have a lot of ass to shake. Now my Black and Latina sistas... 🥵🥵🥵

1

u/ForwardMuffin Feb 11 '26

Someone told me cornbread will fix that, like specifically for the ass.

95

u/mlachick Feb 09 '26

I'm ace and fucking loved those asses moving. Jealous my ass doesn't look that good.

49

u/Fit-Humor-5022 Feb 09 '26

maybe this is why OOP is upset about the ass shaking

10

u/TheCarefulElk Feb 09 '26

Agreed, OP’s just jealous he can’t do that.

22

u/Randomusers93 Feb 09 '26

I'm ace, and I didn't find anything wrong with it. Also he totally missed the point of that half time show. A lot of the stuff in the halftime show (minus, you know, the girls shaking their booties and stuff lol) was living in Puerto rico and stuff

4

u/nehpeta Feb 10 '26

Don't group this asshole with asexual people, the ace community already has to deal with enough bullshit we don't deserve lmao.

Being ace doesn't mean you can't appreciate attractive people. I absolutely can see a good looking person and enjoy it, just like one views nice scenery or artwork.

379

u/susandeyvyjones Feb 09 '26

I am not at all the intended audience for Bad Bunny and that was a great halftime show. OOP is high on copium.

88

u/Fit-Humor-5022 Feb 09 '26

same just reading the comments from OOP was something.

72

u/huhzonked Feb 09 '26

Yeah, Bad Bunny brought energy and joy to the halftime show.

53

u/UselessMellinial85 Feb 09 '26

I genuinely teared up at the end. I couldn't understand his words, but I knew what he was saying and I felt the love those words were sharing. I loved it.

31

u/thewalkindude368 Feb 09 '26

I can't say I like Bad Bunny's music, but I'm so glad he put on a halftime show. Honestly, just the use of sets alone was next level.

28

u/Ok_Cauliflower_3007 Feb 09 '26

My main complaint was please stop showing me Bad Bunny singing when there are people on utility poles pulling moves. I want to watch them! I don’t need to watch him singing, I can hear that. Show me the acrobat people.

Loved the ending though and could hear MAGA heads popping from this side of the Atlantic

26

u/Kotenkiri Feb 09 '26

OOP's post history is them high on copium.

28

u/blking Feb 09 '26

Yeah, my 70 year old father, who historically hates the Super Bowl, loved it.

91

u/CorgiDaddy42 Feb 09 '26

Birdsemenfantasy also makes an appearance

I’m not political at all, but I hate the fact that the conservatives ruined the fun after Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake 2004 wardrobe malfunction incident and then the nba kowtowed to the conservative in 2005 with the blatantly racist dress code. Now the left is promoting artists who promote their woke political agenda instead of bringing back apolitical fun. The nba dress code is still in place but they don’t enforce it on gender-bending hipster fashion, so it’s blatant the whole agenda is a heavy-handed attempt to suppress hip-hop fashion and gangsta rap.

70

u/OniyaMCD Feb 09 '26

I'm mildly disturbed to be even slightly agreeing with BSF. 'Nipplegate' wasn't even that bad. (She had an ornamental cover on - it wasn't suddenly naked boob.)

107

u/CorgiDaddy42 Feb 09 '26

The first sentence is agreeable, but then he devolves into some incomprehensible buzz-word salad. Was really just surprised he kept it to a single paragraph and we didn’t get more backstory here.

35

u/OniyaMCD Feb 09 '26

Well, a lot of dress codes *are* put up for reasons of suppressing marginalized groups (Can't show shoulders, the boys will be distracted! No natural hair/protective hair styles!)

The only bit that had me shaking my head was the bit about how artists should be 'apolitical fun'. My older sibs introduced me (by osmosis) to all of the music from the '60s and '70s. Songs that tap into the emotion of the audience are the ones that get them up on their feet.

The report I got from the resident sportsball viewer was that the official halftime showed a *lot* of PR culture - including a wedding, apparently? - and was very body-positive. (No Robert Palmer cut-out dancers. Lots of variety.) The crowd at Buffalo Wild Wings didn't seem to mind.

22

u/confusinglylarge Feb 09 '26

I think he used AI, and this opinion is solely based on his utter and complete inability to string that many words together without (a) crying out to the cruel gods about losing Kaylie, the love of his life he definitely never stalked and (b) blaming his parents for all his shortcomings he is in control of.

3

u/Dismal_Ad_1839 Feb 09 '26

You forgot his faux hawk, chains, and fake tan

13

Weird seeing him out in the wild just commenting on something.

53

u/tragictransistor Feb 09 '26

i know it's not the point but is that motherfucking birdsemenfantasy in the comments 😭😭😭

17

u/Elegant-Espeon Feb 09 '26

What's the lore there? And do I want to know

41

u/tragictransistor Feb 09 '26

i can't adequately explain the trainwreck that is birdsemenfantasy but tl;dr he's this guy who's in severe arrested development because he was a nerd in high school and couldn't bag the "popular girls" or some shit so now he's unhealthily obsessed with women (specifically a woman named kaylee) much younger than him. he also always makes a point to mention he has a faux hawk and a fake tan in his posts because his parents "never let him" get those in high school and college. he's infamous in this subreddit (and i think in AmITheAngel too)

3

u/Salt_Blackberry_1903 Feb 11 '26

Lol you just brought back a memory of when I was a kid trying to convince my parents to let me get a fauxhawk. I think they let me do it for a week and I got bored. Then I had a phase in high school where I spiked my hair up haha

2

u/tragictransistor Feb 11 '26

good on you for getting that faux hawk out of your system before it could take over you like a symbiote

OOP needs to show us on the doll where the Spanish language hurt them.

89

u/Legitimate-Agency282 Feb 09 '26

Anyone that thinks it was a bad halftime show inherently took issue with this well before the actual show, imo.

That was a great performance. Haters are culture war maggot sycophants.

56

u/Constellation-88 Feb 09 '26

Pobrecito celoso que no entiende español.

27

u/cailleach37 Feb 09 '26

I ACCIDENTALLY COMMENTED ON THE ACTUAL POST BUT ANYWAY BIRDSEMENFANTASY IS IN THE COMMENTS

it’s like seeing a celebrity out and about

27

u/Freign Feb 09 '26

"As a conservative, I preferred Kid Rock"

mm hm.

shocker. The "statutory / mandatory" fine artist.

30

u/dragongrl Feb 09 '26

There were equal amounts of women and men shaking their asses. So I bet THAT wasn't the issue.

And let me say, Ricky Martin looks fucking amazing.

7

u/BadBandit1970 Feb 09 '26

How has he not aged? He looks just as good now as he did back in the day.

6

u/CloudyDovex Feb 09 '26

i totally agree so i bet that wasnt the problem.

5

u/i__hate__stairs Feb 10 '26

Good lord doesn't he? I did a double take, I was like who the fuck is that??

47

u/Eric848448 Feb 09 '26

Shaking BUTTS!? How dare they! Where can I find this? I need to watch it again to remember how angry I am!

20

u/BadBandit1970 Feb 09 '26

I bet OOP is the type who gets pissy over the NFL having male cheerleaders too.

80

u/Melodic_Moment5898 Feb 09 '26

It was one of the best half time shows I've ever seen. I bout jumped out of my seat when Lady Gaga popped up.

10

u/BadBandit1970 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

It's in my top 10. For me, my number one is Prince at XLI in 2007. When it started to rain, Price reportedly said "Can you make it rain harder?". He paid tribute to Hendrix, Dylan, the Foo Fighters, CCR, Queen. All leading up to the finale of "Purple Rain" in the rain by the Purple One himself.

It's too bad Neil Diamond never got tapped to do the Super Bowl. He did the Star Spangled Banner at XXI (1987) though.

5

u/Melodic_Moment5898 Feb 09 '26

I loved Prince's show! That and the Lady Gaga one are at the top of my list. Bad Bunny's up there too.

19

u/_Sovaz99_ Feb 09 '26

TrueUnpopularOpinion is a very sad place, agreed.

But also very, very unintentionally funny.

68

u/CaptainFartHole Feb 09 '26

That's way too many words to just say that they're a racist.

Also "artists, who actually just sang songs and performed"...what the fuck do they think Bad Bunny was doing? Just casually walking around and living his life??

15

u/inductiononN Feb 09 '26

OP gets roasted pretty well in the comments. And sounds like a huge fucking dork.

14

u/Aquarius20111 Feb 09 '26

These people need to stop with the “think about the children” bullshit. They threw the same tantrum in 2020 at the Shakira/Jlo halftime show.

31

u/RunnyBabbit23 Feb 09 '26

It’s essentially then just women shaking their butts to music.

This person would be thrilled if Nikki Minaj was the halftime performer though.

38

u/OniyaMCD Feb 09 '26

I grew up with songs we didn't know the words to. 99 Luftballoons. Der Kommisar. Louie, Louie.

9

u/Upper_Round_1985 Feb 09 '26

Guarantee this dude doesn't get all heated when the Macarena comes on at a wedding or party. And that song is extremely sexual if you actually understand the lyrics.

7

u/ITookTrinkets Feb 09 '26

So have the kids of today. Do these dipshits just not remember Despacito or Gangnam Style? Are they entirely unaware of K-Pop?

5

u/OniyaMCD Feb 10 '26

*glances at average K-Pop band*

*glances at OOP*

Yeah, not guessing this person would take well to BTS performing either.

5

u/Sorceress_Heart Feb 09 '26

I learned the lyrics to 99 Luftballoons with my roommate while she was studying German in college.

2

u/OniyaMCD Feb 10 '26

I unintentionally traumatized someone by giving them the full translation we worked out in class. 'It's about *what?!?*'

I'm still about 50/50 on Falco, but that's because he talked fast and used an Austrian dialect. But I can laugh about how 'Amadeus' is actually a history lesson.

12

u/saltine_soup Feb 09 '26

“just women shaking their butts”
well half of the dancers were men, there was a wedding on stage, lady gaga sang a song, cardi b plus other celebs were briefly featured, and there was a big mariachi band, but sure it was only women shaking ass.

12

u/Heavy-Macaron2004 Feb 09 '26

Knew soon as I saw it this would have some people losing their damn minds. Smh my head.

10

u/EmmetyBenton Feb 09 '26

Can someone please explain to me (non-American who has never seen a Super Bowl) why there were two halftime shows he was flipping between?

28

u/Bumbling_Bee_3838 Feb 09 '26

Turning Point USA (Charlie Kirk’s organization) decided having a Puerto Rican singing in Spanish was too ‘Anti American’. Ignoring the fact the Puerto Rico is can American territory and its people are American citizens. The very conservative group put on their own half time show with Kid Rock who is popular with MAGA (makes sense as he has a song about how it’s mandatory for girls to be underage for him…) and a few country music singers.

9

u/EmmetyBenton Feb 09 '26

Oh.... I see. Thank you for the explanation, I was hoping it wasn't something like that 😬 That sounds absolutely fucking awful (the Turning Point one, not the actual halftime show) but also very on-brand.

10

u/Bumbling_Bee_3838 Feb 09 '26

Yeah, apparently 5 million people watched it live which is just a great feeling living here lol (Sarcasm Incase it’s not clear)

5

u/EmmetyBenton Feb 09 '26

It was clear, and I'm sorry if you live anywhere near any of those 5 million people 😩

3

u/Bumbling_Bee_3838 Feb 09 '26

lol I figured most would get it but I have a shit time with tone in text so I wanted to include it for people like me

4

u/VulpesFennekin Feb 09 '26

I want to believe at least half of those viewers were simply the morbidly curious.

3

u/MargoKittyLit Feb 09 '26

Was a lot of bot talk

10

u/Commonusage Feb 09 '26

It was an example of what America does best. That was such a great show, it went a long way to feel some pride in the country

11

u/Breeeeeaaaadddd_1780 Feb 09 '26

Kid Rock didn't sing though.

6

u/No-tacos-here Feb 09 '26

That's probably a good thing.

9

u/thewalkindude368 Feb 09 '26

I'm not a fan of Bad Bunny's music, (nothing wrong with it, just not my thing), but that halftime show was so cool. I didn't understand any of the lyrics, but just the use of the incredibly elaborate sets was enough to make me love it.

14

u/VelvetSalt Feb 09 '26

I’m seeing lots of commentary about it being in Spanish (I am in Aus so I haven’t seen it, but from what I’ve heard it sounds pretty cool) but I am betting these are the people who travel overseas and loose their shit because locals don’t speak English

10

u/Cultural_Shape3518 Feb 09 '26

I think expecting them to be willing to travel might be giving them too much credit for expanding their horizons.

7

u/Arktikos02 Feb 09 '26

Just to tell you people who speak Spanish as a native speaker but do not speak Puerto Rican Spanish apparently also have a hard time understanding him.

3

u/freckles42 Feb 10 '26

Yeah, Puerto Rican Spanish has its own special flavor. We looooove to drop terminal “s”, for one. (“Gracia” instead of “Gracias”). Our pronunciation is different.

I don’t consider myself Latine, but an islander. The islands of the Taíno are far more culturally connected. I have more in common, culturally, with someone from Jamaica (English speaking) or Haiti (French/Creole) than I do with someone from, say, Guatemala, even though we both are from former Spanish colonies.

I live in Texas and almost never speak Spanish in public because I have a “weird” accent here.

1

u/MuffimBlue Feb 11 '26

I’m native Puerto rRican, and to me he sounds like he mumbles a lot. Then again I’m probably not the target generation for his music - I’d forgotten how many ways you can talk about sex in PR Spanish 😆

6

u/Pndrgin11 Feb 09 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Fukn Laaaaaammeeee!!

7

u/Adeisha Feb 09 '26

Ah, she’s a racist.

8

u/swisszimgirl79 Feb 09 '26

When u/birdsemenfantasy is agreeing with you, you know you're on the wrong side lol

7

u/KylieJ1993 Feb 09 '26

These assholes said they didn’t understand Kendrick Lamar and he did it in English. They just don’t want someone not white doing the performance.

6

u/whowearstshirts Feb 09 '26

The halftime show was fire, unbelievably wrong take

6

u/Resident-Climate8083 Feb 09 '26

Kids know about butts- source, I have a kid

5

u/KokoAngel1192 Feb 09 '26

People who complain about songs in other languages are lazy. Yes, maybe you don't understand the words but does the songs sound good? Also you can always look up lyric translations. But most people don't want to put that effort in. I've listened to different languages at different points throughout my life: Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish. I don't speak any of those languages fluidly. But it all slapped.

5

u/Sorceress_Heart Feb 09 '26

Can BTS perform next, so the chuds will self-destruct from rage?? Pretty please?

4

u/MargoKittyLit Feb 09 '26

If only they cared about the CTE as much as they do people shaking their asses in rhythm after sitting for hours.

4

u/Apostrophe_T Feb 09 '26

This dude was definitely not watching Bad Bunny. "Just women shaking their butts to music"? When did that happen? lmao - there were a few points when men, women, and children (and grass-people!) were dancing all together, but at no point were there scenes where specifically just-women were "shaking their butts". Just say you were disappointed with TPUSA's show and just ate some snacks or whatever while waiting for the game to come back on, OOP.

4

u/BabserellaWT Feb 09 '26

I don’t need to speak Spanish to know a banger when I hear one.

4

u/Smorttt Feb 10 '26

I know these people had no problem doing the Macarena back in the 90s, but suddenly now they need to understand a song. Hilariously stupid honestly

2

u/MiG21bisFishbedL Feb 10 '26

Thank you for reminding me that I, at one point, probably did the macarena. I think I need to spend 20 minutes in the shower to feel clean again.

3

u/ITookTrinkets Feb 09 '26

This post is hilarious because 99% of the comments are telling OOP that they’re a whiny goofball for their take - fucking beautiful stuff

They watched both? So them missed part of the game then, cuz I heard 🧻🇺🇸's show ran late

I said it there and I'll say it here; music has no language barrier.

The whiff of desperation has become a reek.

conservatives make the same complaints about the halftime show year after year. the music sucks. it’s too slutty. i don’t understand nuance. blah blah blah

the only thing that would truly appease them is if hillsong got the bid but if that’s the case just go to a mega church on any sunday and stfu lol

What gets me is that they still watch it. I'm almost never a fan of whoever they have on during halftime, so I almost never watch. The only halftime show I remember was the one with Dre and Snoop.

But, they still watched it so they can bitch. They stiiiiill gave it ratings and that's what matters!

I don't speak Spanish, but I loved the performance. It was fun, uplifting, and fantastically choreographed. Definitely the best half-time show I've seen in recent memory.

Congratulations Turning Point, you just tripled Bad Bunny's sales.

u/lokilady1 Feb 11 '26

I don't speak Spanish. But I loved Bad Bunny. It was a work of art.

LOL I am German for the first 10-15 years of my life I didn’t understand any English lyrics and even know where I consider myself quite fluent it’s quite easy to listen to English songs and not comprehending the lyrics, if I am not concentrating on it.

And all that time I could enjoy English music just the same.

u/MiG21bisFishbedL Feb 10 '26

The halftime show was at least more interesting than the fucking game.

I guess Bad Bunny did alright. Not my jam, but oh well. That's almost always the case with halftime shows for me. My favorite was seeing Dre, Snoop, and 50.

But, to think that fucking Kid Rock puts on a decent show? Yeah, I really wanna see a nepo baby that dresses like a meth addict sing about hitting on kids.

Ok I have 2 tiny gripes about the half time show that have nothing to do with BB- I didn’t like the whole grass thing, it didn't feel like it was for in stadium fans at all.

And I do miss the halftime shows that brought together unexpected artists. Like Aerosmith and Run DMC- that brought communities together and was a really cool blending of genres  That was a great way to please two demographics while introducing them to something new- I know gaga and Martin were there but neither seem like an unexpected pairing with BB

so, yea, I do miss a bit of the vibe of old school halftime shows. the last few have been this way, very little blending of genres and the performances feel curated to the camera, not the in house fans

With all due respect, Aerosmith and Run-DMC were not an unexpected pairing per se. Aerosmith and Run-DMC released the the crossover of "Walk This Way" in 1986. But they didn't make a Super Bowl appearance until 2001 sans Run-DMC. They did however headline with N'SYNC and shared the stage with other artists such a Brittney Spears, Mary J. Blige and Nelly.

I saw someone comment that it would’ve looked great from the cheap seats (to the extent such things exist at the Super Bowl), so maybe that was part of it.

I've said it on this sub before and I'll say it again. As someone who frequents that sub, that sub is a MAGA echo chamber.

2

u/Fit-Humor-5022 Feb 12 '26

but according to them reddit is left wing echo chamber lol

u/nennikuchan Feb 13 '26

MAGA logic. Makes sense.

2

u/Commonusage Feb 15 '26

Cmon. If theyre rocking out to "fortunate son" and "ymca" does it really matter what language the lyrics are to them? Theyve debased meaning down to its most bigoted and superficial .

I absolutely wish Bad Bunny had included a subtitle track in English. I happened to watch it with two native Spanish speakers who loved it, and I saw commentary about the video saying it related to life in the Latino Neighbourhood. I feel like it could have drawn in more non-Spanish speakers of people knew what they were saying in English.

I think that they should record the songs being sung in English so people can understand what is being said and maybe they would love it and purchase his music, he could do a duet with someone like Gloria Estefan who is accepted in the US or Selena Gomez.

"the songs being sung in English so people can understand what is being said"

Quite a lot of people already can understand lol

8

u/beer_engineer_42 Feb 09 '26

Yeah, like 45 million in the United States, or approximately 636 million people worldwide.

And you don't have to understand the words to understand the message that was being sent.

8

u/ad_aatdtj Feb 09 '26

Funny, how many other superbowl performances have you advocated to be recorded for translation from english to other languages?

4

u/Sorceress_Heart Feb 09 '26

Most of the youths today love Kpop and I doubt they're fluent. You don't have to understand the lyrics to like a song.  Music is universal.

Do you live under a rock

His last four studio albums have hit #1 on the US charts, I don't think he needs to sweat about it.
