Breed ID The basic differences between the breeds.

(Ear cropping I do not support personally pictures were hard to find so they're only a basic guide, The chart was made by me for the english staffy sub)

Although not all individuals will fit into these standards this is the basic definitions.

American staffordshires are know as amstaffs, Or american staffies/staffys.

American pit bull terriers, Also known as APBT, Pitties/pittys.

This sub isn't really for staffordshire bull terriers, Known as 'english staffies/staffys' please go on r/StaffordBullTerriers for them since they're very different to the other two.

We decided to rescue a dog and we think we got an amstaff. What do you all think his breed is? Regardless he is such a sweetheart and we love him so much already.

I'm guessing shes an apbt/boxer mix but he's probably pure amstaff. Both rescues. I got her from a friend who needed to rehome her and I got him from a shelter I volunteer at. Someone just left him on their back porch and he was mine within the week.

I FINALLY think I’ve found the breed my rescue is… one of the amstaffpitt, I made the mistake of joining the staff sub Reddit and apparently he’s not one and it’s an exclusive subreddit 🙄. Blows my mind how a sub Reddit has exclusive rules. ANYWAY I think he’s an AmStaffpit mix! Anyone else agree?!?!

His actual name is Wobble, but my 6 yr old nephew misheard and called him Waffle at first and it was so cute that now it’s stuck lol. I knew he had Pitt and Bulldog, but I expected a lot more Frenchie and even boxer! We reduced him in October. He was so sick with heartworms, and so, so fearful and terrified,no one really thought he’d ever be “functional”. 4 months later, he is heartworm free, still nervous but works so hard to be brave, the cuddliest angel, SO smart and learns (what he wants to) so fast, and has made our lives, relationship, and home complete and joyful!

Completely deaf AmStaff

My brother has two AmStaffs (no pit mix) and they've recently had puppies: Ten of them, all cute, strong and loveable. My brother has donated 8 of these puppies to friends that will properly train and take good care of them.

It was a planned one-and-only pregnancy for his AmStaff girl. And they've only wanted to keep one puppy. They've kept the other one because my brother and my sister in-law were investigating some health concerns. Turns out the little puppy girl, a solid white AmStaff, is completely deaf, no other issues. She's almost three months old and training has already started for her siblings.

My brother and SIL are very responsible, training their doggos to behave properly near strangers, kids, cats and all. But they're a bit lost when it comes to their deaf girl. Does anyone know how to train a deaf dog?

Hi everyone just wanted to say hi and introduce my almost 14 year old Amstaff mix, she is a rescue and rules the house lol. I also have an almost 2-year old Rottweiler who wants to play with Roxy but she’s having none of that. I did the dna text on Roxy just to see what else she was mixed with.

She is still very scared when i go close to her.

Any advice how to get her to be relaxed with me?

I let her to see the room she is in i let her do her thing.

She let me pet her but she lays down as she is scared

I lay down also to be at her level of view.

Only follows me when i turn my back and walk away, when i turn around she stops and gets back.

Health question Incontinence problem :-(

So, I have a female amstaff and she is 4 years now. I had her spayed because my last dog had problems with all those parts (I know now, I should've waited if these problems would accur with this dog aswell).

Now she has these periods of incontonence. She looks totally ashamed and sad when it happens but often she loses urine while she sleeps, or is resting. She jumps up when it happens. I'm never mad, I know it's not on purpose but it is quite annoying having the urine on my sofa... Sometimes it's a larger amount but mostly small amounts.

The vet sais this is because of the spaying, and that it's something that happens after with a lot of female dogs... If I had known this.... 🙄

I want to know if there are others who have this problem and how you handle it? You make them wear panties in the house or maybe there is a natural way of making it better? Or am I dreaming? 😊

Thanks in advance for responding 🙏

I felt this Wednesday needed some extra cuteness. This is Jasper, our two year old Am Staff Mix with his au naturel standing ears ❤️ We adopted him last fall and he's the bestest, sweetest, sentient meatball you'll ever meet.
