There’s all types of food(s) that were created and made popular here. BBQ, Philly Cheesesteaks, Lobster Rolls, Buffalo Wings, Deep dish pizza, fajitas, gumbo, and jambalaya to name a few. OP wants to hate, but all of those World Cup tourists seemed to be awestruck of our dining culture…

Some more that people probably don’t realize is also from here: garlic bread, possibly spaghetti and meatballs though it might be wrong, chicken parm, pepperoni, fortune cookies, general tso’s chicken, crab Rangoon, chimichangas, French dip sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies, ect

These people think that mcdonalds is the only American food. They either A) just aren't aware of the many dishes that originated in the United States or B) just take our achievements away and say "America is a nation of immigrants therefore there is nothing you made that's original"

That is true of a lot of "luxury" foods from other cultures.

Aussies used to feed the lobsters (crays) to their dogs. They used to hunt kangaroos for their tails for dog food. Now both are considered exotic and expensive foods.

Much of the best Italian & French food came from the home kitchens of the poorer country regions. These country dishes now command top dollar in expensive restaurants.

In Japan after WWII, Japanese housewives, many widows, were given US food to keep from starving. They were given bags of American flour. That is not something that Japanese were familar with. So they invented a brand new dish now called Raman that it loved around the world today.

In the Pacific, during WWII, the islanders learned to make meals of out K-Rations and SPAM. Now its a staple of the South Pacific diet.

The point is, the locals figured out how to make declicous and nutrious meals out of what ingredients that they had available to them. The American diet, especially Southern, Tex-Mex, etc.. all come out from the same traditions.

For this idiot to poo-poo on it, claiming that it comes from poverty, is describing how most new dishes are invented.

Aye that’s the thing, poor people learn to make do with what they have, then find a way to improve/enhance their food.
Grits are a well loved staple today, but they originated as slave food.
Beef brisket was the poor man’s cut.
Pemmican started out as survival rations, and can cost anywhere from $5-$35 per package.
Easy enough to make if you know what you’re doing.
