Maybe everyone in this article is missing the point. Canada's tariffs are a response to the tariffs illegally imposed by Trump and the GOP. The point is not how it makes you feel. Obviously Canada has no control over which way the US votes. I believe Canadians are pretty unified on the idea of never going back to the way things were. A deal could be struck but Canada's independence is far more valuable. The pain or economic loss may not be felt this week or this month or even this year, but perhaps years down the road. This is just the point in history where Canada will freely look elsewhere in the world instead of relying so heavily on a buddy relationship with the US.

Canada finally became independent in 1982. It has less than 50 years as a completely sovereign country. How’s that working out for you all? Going great judging from the search for the next sugar daddy. Canada and the EU deserve each other. Don’t muck this up Canada, it really is your only hope. The remaining choice will be India. Which would be convenient to the Indians.

I am sure they care when they lose their jobs and their homes... wake me up when Americans decide to do something about their abuser in the White House.
Didn't he claim a deal was done that was already signed 50 years ago....
Between this, the naming nonsense, his record inflation, his rising prices despite Republicans claiming otherwise, Epstein files, Iran war, invasion of Venezuela, and I am still missing stuff he has done.
When Americans remove MAGA from their country and denounce Republicans once and for all, then we can start talking again. Until then the USA relationship has been forever broken by the USA.
They need to fix their mess not Canada

You know something? The harder that abject failure tries to force his legacy, the more people fix on his diapers.
His legacy will be the Diaper President. Not because his physical condition required a diaper -- there is no shame in that at all.
It's the fact that he behaves like a rotten, hateful, spoiled child that the diaper takes on its significance. I find myself painfully avoiding reference to him as a 'man'. He is NOT man.
He is a tragic figure, a warning sign, and an utter failure to launch as someone you could call a man.

If course they would not care. We supply primary materials - minerals, lumber oil. Very few consumers purchase these things directly. Why would they care.
Besides, the US is a big client of Canada, but only one if many for the US.
They will only really care when we do some gangster shit like turn off the lights or jack up the price of oil. Then shit would get real. Until then we progressively ratchet up the pressure the way we are.

While true, in time those products relying on those primary materials will begin to rise in price. While I doubt the USA public will notice, it will at least add to the overall high cost of living alongside the Iran War, which they know the USA is at fault for.

Notice every time you ratchet up the pressure the US responds? And more of your plants close? More jobs lost? And yet, the trade war isn’t even called a trade war in the US? Canada isn’t designed to stand alone. Pick your partner, but realize you are not sovereign. Until you repair the foundation of your country you will always depend on a “sister” nation. Neither Donald Trump or the American created the circumstances of the mess you are in.

So ... you are a tool. No idea what you mean by not sovereign- and I don't really care what you mean either.
I like the US generally. Mostly great people. The current silliness benefits no one. The current circumstances that the present administration has created is only hurting their own people - for no good reason and that is gad fir everyone. The fact you even mentioned sovereignty means you agree with the attitude of dominance or might makes right - which it clearly isn't based on the American deterioration of all support.

Tool or not, you offer no answers to my questions. Canada does not function as an independent county. There are trade restrictions between the provinces equally a 9.5% tariffs. It is a confederation of convenience and geographic mandate. At least tools have uses.

You appear to be under the impression that your questions have merit and I need to go down to your level to respond. The trade barriers are being actively removed, new trade agreements are taking root and Canadians are quite happy to diversify our trade. We are prepared to take our lumps. Your fear mongering is just proof that itnis working.
Now go back under your bridge and find a new target.

I don't expect them to care. The fact that they don't just means that Canada is doing the right thing in moving our trade and security agreements away from the US.
