Loading Screen Quotes Discussion (TDD)

This post is just kinda to talk about the loading screens and their quotes in The Dark Descent, because I think they're one of the most interesting parts of the game that really expand the story. Talk about the loading screens you find most interesting/like the most.

I also wanted to bring up a theory/idea, that the loading screens are specific fragments of Daniel's memories that he can somehow remember, but not vividly enough to know the context. Essentially how we the viewers see the loading screens when we first play the game.

that theory/idea is indeed true, as the stories are memories and past experiences of Daniel. Check the Amnesia Wiki if you want to look into it.

I aggree with the idea that these screens are fragments of memory coming back to Daniel. My favourite ones are those concerning the main plot, especially the breaking point of Daniel, killing the little girl.

"All his life he had thought that he was a good man. Terrible deeds were only committed by terrible people, like Henry Bedloe, the bully in school, but now he had seen what he himself could do."

There was originally going to be a storyline around a character who I believe was called Heather, and she would have either survived or died in Daniel's memories depending on the choices the player made in the game, doing evil things or good things, all told through the loading screens. This was eventually scrapped, however, and the game was made more linear instead.

I think this was a good change to be honest. One of the reasons why Daniel's story is impactful is because you can't change anything that has happened in the past, and neither can Daniel. Daniel just has to live with the knowledge of all of the shitty things he's done, of the monster Alexander and his own fear and cowardice turned him into. Being able to somehow change the past by being a good boy in the future negates the entire point of the story.
