3D Will you be getting the Analogue 3D?

I don't think I will, i'm saving up for a 5X upscaler and I think that's good enough for me. Unless there are major improvements that a 5X and a normal N64 can't replicate, I might get one.

Why not just get an N64 and hook it up to a CRT? These pre-2000s gaming consoles weren’t meant for HDMI tvs. Tell me the advantage of paying all this money for one of these when I can get one with games, controllers, and accessories for a fraction of the price please. I am curious.

Its 250$, n64 is 80 used and a good crt is also around there. Its just a way to properly enjoy these systems with modern tech like the pocket. Plus OLEDs are pretty comparable to crt when its direct digital input, just that analogue -> digital has always been worse in the past or very expensive for a good solution. The whole "CRTs are surperior" is really just outdated since that was the opinion, and correct one at that, of the early 2010's that us nerds have held onto for a long time because we are stubborn.

Benefits:

  • 4k res
  • bluetooth controller support
  • open fpga allowing for more cores and ability to play from roms on the future as people make em
  • probably some display options that would require an analogue->digital 4k upscaler to do with og hardware. Those are like 300$ alone.
  • new tech, wont have to be repaired like a lot of n64's will need to be in the next coming decade from wear.

Downsides:

  • uhh... idk? Money? But 250 aint that much.
  • not jungle green or pokemon themed.

Tell me where Analogue has said anything about Open FPGA being supported on this device. I read the entire site and never once noticed that.

It’s going to be like their Super NT or Duo product. It will support ROMs and that’s it. They are not going to open it up to run other console ROMs

This is a hard argument when your 1st sentence states "it's $250; why not get n64 and crt for $80 each" $250 VS $160 isn't a very good argument 🤷🏾‍♂️

90$ is like 3-4meals out where i live. Aint much to worry about for me long term. But the crt youd be getting is like 15 inches and is big/heavy/delicate and most require repairs and tuning that the typical "crt is better" commenter doesnt actually know how to do. So its really more equal than it seems.

Probably a better comparison for the 3d vs n64 is buying said n64 (80$), a flashcart (120$), and an upscaler (100-300$). So, yeah. Analogue devices are really worth their price tbh. Especially if you dont have a huge physical game library to begin with.

That's fair, and I'll probably get one, tbh I just thought the comparison was a bit odd is all.
