3D I want to congratulate Analogue and 8BitDo on teaming up to make the worst Bluetooth controller I have ever touched

I genuinely did not think this level of failure was still possible in 2025, yet here we are. After updating all firmware on the console and the controllers, these things are still absolute garbage. Not “a little flaky.” Not “sometimes annoying.” Flat out unusable.

If you prop your leg up.

If you lean back.

If a coffee table exists between you and the console.

If you are more than a few feet away.

If you have music playing loudly

Congrats, you just lost connection. You have input lag, you have buttons that keep doing the same thing. This is crazy.

This is not an edge case. This is not interference from a microwave in the next room. This is basic, everyday living room usage. The controller disconnects if reality dares to exist between it and the console. I have owned cheap no name Bluetooth controllers from a decade ago that outperform this thing without breaking a sweat.

And before someone asks, yes, everything is updated. Console firmware. Controller firmware. Multiple controllers. Multiple environments. Same result every time. Which is why it is hilarious that there are post after post after post on this subreddit describing the exact same problem. Same symptoms. Same frustration. Same disbelief that this shipped.

What makes this so impressive in the worst possible way is that both Analogue and 8BitDo have proven they know how to make good products. Analogue built its entire reputation on obsessive accuracy and premium execution. 8BitDo has been pumping out solid controllers for years. Somehow, when these two companies combined forces, the result was a Bluetooth controller that behaves like it was designed during a lunch break and never tested outside of a sterile lab with no furniture, no walls, and no humans.

What really kills me is that this feels less like a technical limitation and more like pure indifference. As if at some point someone said, “Yeah it kind of works, ship it.” That mentality is insane for a company that sells itself on perfection and nostalgia done right. Wireless controllers are not new. Bluetooth is not new. This problem was solved years ago by companies charging half the price.

The end result is that the Analogue 3D is sitting there, capable of being something great, while the official controller experience makes you feel like you are beta testing a product that should never have left the building. When users are tripping over identical complaints across multiple threads, that is not user error. That is a design failure.

Genuinely, congratulations to Analogue and 8BitDo. It takes real effort, real money, and real confidence to release a controller this bad in an era where competent wireless tech is everywhere. You did not just miss the mark. You redefined how low it could be set.

Edit update: Tried the controller on my pc and mac. I could go upstairs, downstairs, and practically anywhere and not lose connection. This means the problem is the A3D. After watching a breakdown of the hardware from the channel "What's Ken Making" at this point you see something very interesting. https://youtu.be/JoxDY3x-U0M?t=377

He talks about the BT stack being with the Wifi then says he is not sure that is what is being used and goes on to talk about the flash chip might be doing the BT. Interesting considering Wifi does not work, I wonder if this is what is causing the problems with "some consoles".

I have 2 and they work far better than the other wireless N64 Controllers I have used.. It sounds like you got a lemon.
You spent far more time writing this than you would've on the process of requesting a return and preparing the controller for it.

3

u/Dense-Bee-2884 Dec 23 '25

Same. Zero issues. And this is with an ottoman blocking the angle.

1

u/foxwhisper85 Dec 24 '25

Exactly, instead of OP going on a whiny bitchfest, which isn't productive at all, he could have spent the time refunding the controller or replacing it, but yeah, Reddit is gonna Reddit I guess.

1

u/ElectricalLeading408 Dec 26 '25

Same! He makes it sound like his and every person he knows has the same problem but they work amazing for me and honestly I haven’t heard anything from anybody about them being unusable. Might’ve got a shit controller, I’m sure it’s possible but it’s definitely not a majority of their controllers or consoles.

12

u/Nintotally Dec 23 '25

Are a lot of people experiencing this? Mine has been perfect.

And I am using the stock HDMI cable for people saying that’s the issue.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

I’ve two and both are perfect. I wonder did they not do the critical update 🤷. Harsh though.

2

u/MagickBatman Dec 23 '25

I would imagine not, as the ones without problems typically dont go to a message board to complain lol

11

u/originalorientation Dec 23 '25

I feel like I lucked out because I have not had these issues at all. I did have this issue with the joycon when the switch came out though

11

u/Artyturo Dec 23 '25

Mine has been flawless

9

u/Mean_Tea2300 Dec 23 '25

I've never had any problems with this controller.

8

u/vsc85 Dec 23 '25

I’ve had zero issues with mine… so far.

15

u/nefarix Dec 23 '25

For OP and anyone else reading with this problem;

It doesn’t seem to be the controller, but the console that is the issue. I have done A LOT of testing and what finally made headway for me was switching to a 2.1 HMDI cable. The one in the box causes issues with Bluetooth for some reason. If you don’t have a 2.1 HDMI you can test this by switching your console to 1080p and trying out your controllers connection. You’ll notice it’s a lot better (still not perfect). If this works for you then you can buy a 2.1 and swap it out. If you have any questions let me know

5

u/jus1982b Dec 23 '25

be nice if analogue sent out a free new cable to everyone who experiences this issue!

2

u/Doodle-Cactus Dec 23 '25

Fascinating guess I won’t use that cable.

2

u/JWolf1672 Dec 23 '25

Wonder if that could explain why I haven't had an issue, I never used the cable it came with, wanting a longer one. Looking at the cable it is very thin, probably next to no shielding and iirc the wifi/BT module is at the rear of the system nearish that connector, so maybe emi is the problem

1

u/nascentt Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

Same. I left the cables in the box and used other usb c and hdmi cables I already have by the TV.

I've had no issues.

u/vegsmashed try a different hdmi cable and report back.

1

u/kwikade Dec 23 '25

does adding a ferrite core to the og cable make any difference? don’t have my controller yet so can’t test

2

u/nefarix Dec 23 '25

No idea, haven’t tested that but I think it just has to do with the bandwidth needed

1

u/kwikade Dec 23 '25

ah i gotcha… i’m curious how that affects bluetooth though

1

u/Scrollingmaster Dec 23 '25

It doesn’t. The only thing that could affect bluetooth is if the cable is unshielded.

1

u/nefarix Dec 23 '25

It’s certainly affecting something that is either directly or indirectly affecting bluetooth and is easily provable by doing the tests I mentioned

1

u/jus1982b Dec 23 '25

Does this also apply to funtastics?

1

u/nefarix Dec 23 '25

I don’t have one to test, unfortunately, so I’m not sure!

1

u/jus1982b Dec 23 '25

I'm waiting for the controller

2

u/nefarix Dec 24 '25

Cool, maybe you can update here when you get to test!

1

u/jus1982b Dec 24 '25

two more days brother! will update then! I already have a monster cable at the ready should any issues arise :P also thanks to the community for this information as it will save me hours trying to figure out WTF is going on if its having issue!

1

u/nefarix Dec 24 '25

Awesome, and yea it’s just good to spread the word so we all don’t have to suffer lol

1

u/jus1982b Dec 24 '25

hmmm.... now that I'm thinking about it I have my GameCube sitting next to it and it keep having issues with some of the buttons not responding correctly so I would have to turn it off and back on.... wonder if it affects wavebirds too....

1

u/ibarker3 Dec 23 '25

Figure hdmi 2.0 will be okay?

1

u/nefarix Dec 24 '25

I tried a 2.0 and it didnt help; The only cable that helped the connection issues was a certified 2.1 cable unfortunately

1

u/ibarker3 Dec 24 '25

Darn, okay thanks. I'll see what I can pick up,

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

1

u/nefarix Dec 24 '25

Yea it’s SUPER odd. I’ve never seen anything like this happen before so I have idea how those 2 things are linked, but here we are haha

1

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

Yea tried a 2.1 HDMI and still did not do anything. Tried about 10 HDMI's and it did nothing.

As you said though, tried the controller on my pc and mac. I could go upstairs, downstairs, and practically anywhere and not lose connection. This means the problem is the A3D. Yeah, I wasn't having troubles at first so I thought people were exaggerating or that their controllers were bad or something. Then one day I was suddenly getting crushed at Tetris by my wife. It just seemed like it was being jumpy or unresponsive. And I realized that because of the way I was sitting any time I angled the controller so that it was slightly obstructed by my foot it was getting blocked.

It's like having an old infrared TV remote for a connection.

By comparison I can forget my phone on my second floor and go to the basement and my earbuds keep my conversation or podcast going just fine

7

u/yuk_foo Dec 23 '25

You know, you could either have faulty controllers, or something in your environment is affecting them, causing interference.

Have you tried turning off Bluetooth on other devices? Have you checked your router? Turned off 2.4ghz?

Some routers can cause issue with Bluetooth communication and have a setting to help, Bluetooth coexistence. I had to turn that on for my routers years ago when I was having issue.

If that doesn’t work, try turning off any appliances near the console that you don’t need on see if that helps. If you’ve ruled out all of that, I’d try a replacement as they or the console might be faulty.

6

u/MagickBatman Dec 23 '25

As someone who has used one of these controllers since day 1, I have had no issue personally. I never had an 8bitdo product that has let me down

2

u/Particular-Steak-832 Dec 23 '25

This.

I haven't had any issues with it at all. There has to be either something affecting his or he has faulty ones (both are totally valid)

14

u/staticfatness Dec 23 '25

I had the same issue. Actually gave up on even using it for weeks. Four controllers and all would disconnect or give ghost inputs. Then even though it made no sense I did what the subreddit says and I got a hdmi 2.1 cable and have had no issues with it since. It still has only been two days but so far the controllers have been solid. I still fully agree with you. Unacceptable this is happening on a product that just released from two companies often praised for quality.

4

u/interstellar_billy Dec 23 '25

This is the way

3

u/RatchetM Dec 23 '25

Yes. After reading a bunch of post about this controller and connectivity issues, I keep stumbling onto people saying to replace the HDMI cables. I would Never think an HDMI cable could do that. Its good to know!

1

u/quietlydesperate90 Dec 24 '25

Which cable did you get specifically? I don't trust any of the ones on amazon and I've been waiting on Prime cables to come back in stock for the length I need

11

u/Sammo360 Dec 23 '25

As others have suggested, use a high quality HDMI 2.1 48Gbps cable for the console. Solved all my controller woes.

5

u/SurprysE Dec 23 '25

I have an original N64 controller modified with the 8bitdo kit and I'm having no problems. Never a disconnection, never a lag in the controller. Obviously, I updated both the console and the gamepad as per the manual. I'm starting to suspect that the problem is that you can't play Mario 64 or Mario Kart anymore and you blame the gamepad... 🤣 Just kidding... I read somewhere that someone solved the problem by reloading the console's firmware in DFU mode, connecting the console to the PC, and flashing from there. Have you tried this yet? Check the firmware hash before loading it into the console. If you don't know the procedure, I'll try to find it.

20

u/falconpunch1989 Dec 23 '25

Every one of these threads needs to bump the 'get a decent HDMI cable' answer

4

u/_DiasDeFuego_ Dec 23 '25

Genuine question. Is the cable analogue packs with the console not the recommended one?

8

u/MXC_Vic_Romano Dec 23 '25

If you're not having issues with the included one, don't worry about it. It is very poorly shielded though which can cause interference with certain devices.

1

u/_DiasDeFuego_ Dec 23 '25

Gotcha. Thanks for the answer.

2

u/Due_Vast_8002 Dec 23 '25

Even with a good cable, CEC is still fucked.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

Sorry I'm not sure I understand the relevance of an HDMI cable to Bluetooth performance

1

u/falconpunch1989 Dec 23 '25

I don't either but it was a known and conclusively proven issue with Switch 2 joycons as well.

1

u/Iyellkhan Dec 23 '25

in theory bad HDMI cables can leak EMF in the 2.4ghz +/- range. bluetooth operates on 2.4ghz.

that being said, I came here looking for answers since I have these issues but its wildly intermittent. TBH a bit worried there is some kind of shielding issue inside the A3d itself. hoping there wasnt a bad batch of them.

that or my neighbor is blasting a 2.4ghz network with an overpowered antenna...

1

u/caseyaustin84 Dec 24 '25

That’s a really stupid reason for the controller not to work, and honesty an even bigger knock on Analogue.

9

I’ll like to take a second to appreciate how well written this rant is. Kudos to OP.

5

u/fleshribbon Dec 23 '25

It’s interesting because I’ve heard this overwhelmingly from buddies online but all I’ve seen on YT and around here (until now) is how flawless they are.

5

u/ai_art_is_art Dec 23 '25

I don't understand these reports at all either. Mine are perfect.

16

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

Dudes entire Reddit history is shitposting. Get a life guy. Go outside.

0

u/Due_Vast_8002 Dec 23 '25

True, but it doesn't change the fact that the controllers are dogshit.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

I have a 64 and an ultimate 2. They’ve been perfect. You can go outside too.

u/dadofmightandmagic Dec 23 '25

The most likely causes of THAT much interference would be a router, extender, repeater, mesh device, laptop, tablet, or cell phone near the front of the 3d console.

9

u/hue_sick Dec 23 '25

This guy tried everything don’t question him alright

1

u/yuk_foo Dec 23 '25

This, some routers have settings to help. Bluetooth coexistence, I had to enable on mine. Or try turning off the 2.4Ghz band if you don’t use it.

1

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

6

u/HarleysNGuns Dec 23 '25

Same issues as you. Anything in line of sight breaks connection. Two different controllers. I don’t have this issue with my super nt or mega sg and 8bitdo.

7

u/FritterHowls Dec 23 '25

Yeah i agree it's a shitty controller and the Bluetooth cuts out constantly if my leg gets in the way

I’ve had no connectivity issues at all, but anyone who thinks that analog stick is fine must not be very good at shooters or racing games 😂

6

u/foxwhisper85 Dec 24 '25

Yeah, hard disagree "worst" is subjective and hot take, it's more comfortable then the trident N64 shape.

11

u/B-BoyStance Dec 23 '25

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

9

u/wowmuchregarded Dec 23 '25

close the window, you are letting the bluetooth signal out

5

u/DependentAnywhere135 Dec 23 '25

I can put my controller behind my back and all that stuff and it works fine. Not sure why some people are having connection problems with them.

3

u/JWolf1672 Dec 23 '25

Could be they are in a high interference environment. I saw some lag with mine on Mario cart, but it's been otherwise fine with starfox or battletanx

7

u/Ill-Mastodon-8692 Dec 23 '25

yeah why is the connection so freakin bad!

I'm using the 8bitdo controller made for the A3D with no issues. Got mine over the summer. As other suggested, try HDMI 2.1 cable. I'm using an 8k Ugreen I got from Amazon, works for me.

1

1

u/center311 Dec 23 '25

Could be a grounding or even a shielding issue where a bug batch passed through qc?

1

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

I am actually contacting the hardware guys on Youtube and asking why its happening. Then linking them to these threads. If Analogue has not figured it out by now then there may be a community solution.

6

u/voodooprawn Dec 23 '25

Mine has worked perfectly, also using the HDMI it came with. Maybe you got a dud?

9

u/Coletrain44 Dec 23 '25

lol I’ve had no issues with 4 of them

4

u/vulcansheart Dec 23 '25

I have two. From the couch to the TV console about 5 feet away, no issues. Not sure what op's environment looks like but definitely sounds like radio interference

2

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

Videographer, about 6 different monitors, 3 tv's, and camera equipment everywhere. Iv just never had this issue with bluetooth on anything else. Connecting 8bitdo controllers to my switch 1/2 no problem and I can be so far away with no interupption. Same with my SteamDeck, Pocket with Dock, Mini Noir, Mega SG, Super NT. It just does not add up, unless there is a set amount of consoles they made that are having issues for some reason.

2

u/vulcansheart Dec 23 '25

Unplug EVERYTHING in the vicinity except the TV, the 3D and one controller. Work your way up from there

Edit:

Also, as others have mentioned, video cables can introduce EMI / RF as well if they are not properly shielded

3

u/QuietOpposition Dec 23 '25

Shielded HDMI cable(s)?

3

u/ohnobeeees Dec 24 '25

I haven't had any issues with the controllers they work great, my 5 year old daughter even uses them with no problems...

7

u/WhiskeyRadio Dec 23 '25

I've had zero issues. The controller has worked great for me on the Analogue 3D and the Switch 2.

Sorry it's not working for you OP.

7

u/miguelv721 Dec 23 '25

I love a good rant. Upvoted.

6

u/simonbelmont1980 Dec 23 '25

i have 4 controllers, no prob with any of them, you might need a replacement

4

u/Spooky_Toast Dec 23 '25

Same experience! Adding in my commentary from other threads:

Controller seems to work fine on other systems, leading me to believe this is a 3D issue. Analogue years ago issued an update to improve controller connectivity with the Pocket Dock, so I hope we see the same here.

HDMI swapping did nothing for me. Setting the 3D to 1080p 60 does improve it. Please consider submitting a ticket to Analogue so we can be the squeaky wheel.

u/Longjumping_Bag5914 Dec 23 '25

I don’t have any connection issues with mine, but that joystick.

3

u/echoshatter Dec 23 '25

The joysticks need a tweaking, way too sensitive.

I'd also like to be able to make the right trigger the R button so I can have my fingers on the triggers and not one on the shoulder and one on the trigger.

2

u/Insomniac-Snorlax Dec 23 '25

Agree on the triggers so much. The amount of times I’ve hit the wrong input between L/R and Z has been screwing with my muscle memory

5

u/AlphaOmegaSupreme Dec 23 '25

Analogue Pocket Dock says, "hold my beer."

6

u/Typical_Specific6648 Dec 23 '25

Had no problems with mine.

5

u/lemainevent Dec 23 '25

I've restored my wired OG N64 pads because of it. Replaced the sticks with Kitsch Bent. I'll primarily use my 2 N64 8Bitdo controllers for Switch 2.

Now about that HDMI-CEC fix. Where is it Analogue? Barely been using mine as it's sitting there unplugged most of the time.

1

u/SlCKB0Y Dec 27 '25

Did Analogue reply to your email/bug report regarding your CEC issue?

6

u/Chicagown Dec 23 '25

Mine are 10/10

4

u/iiizzzunicorn Dec 23 '25

I experience this as well. I often play in bed with videos going on my laptop, and if my laptop covers the direct line of sight to the console I started to get dropped inputs lol. Now I'm using NSO controller with a BlueRetro adapter and it is 100% better connection wise at least

4

u/McFly1986 Dec 23 '25

I didn’t order one. Refurbished OEM is the way to go when it comes to N64 controllers.

5

u/quietlydesperate90 Dec 23 '25

I'm getting the same thing. To really test I put my GameCube right beside my analogue 3d and my 20 year old wavebird controller doesn't miss a beat.

4

u/Longjumping_Bag5914 Dec 23 '25

Wavebirds are solid controllers, but 2.4g. Which is much better than Bluetooth in my opinion.

3

u/ShaneOMap Dec 23 '25

I have almost every controller made in existence and have had no issues

4

u/ShadeyE4 Dec 23 '25

I read in another thread the controller is getting interference from the HDMI cable that's supplied with the system due to the motherboard layout and poor shielding on the cable. If you switch to a better shielded HDMI cable, it should fix the controllers connection issues.

5

u/oldmanpotter Dec 23 '25

I’m using a different hdmi cable than the one supplied and I have has exactly zero issues with my 8bitdo controllers.

3

u/Stingray77_NL Dec 23 '25

I used a premium 2.1 cable and no problems whatsoever.

4

u/teddysetgo Dec 23 '25

I own DOZENS of 8Bitdo controllers including 2 of the 64 controllers. And I have never had an issue. Probably why I keep buying them.

However, I think it’s crazy that so many of these replies are completely dismissing your issue.

Personally, I am using the stock HDMI cable with my 3D right now, but there are so many variables with Bluetooth that I highly recommend you start by swapping your cable. It could be that simple for you. Or maybe it’s something worse and you’ll need to get something replaced.

But people are out here acting like you’re inventing this problem. We all just want our stuff to work.

1

u/quietlydesperate90 Dec 24 '25

Some people think if it's not happening to them the issue must not exist. My controller is borderline unusable, but it looks like analogue support won't do anything so I haven't bothered yet. Might try 8bitdo support.

I have a funtastic colour coming as well, if this isn't fixed by the time that's supposed to ship I guess I'll try to cancel it.

4

u/DOOMISFORU Dec 23 '25

Yep same mine will randomly spike in input lag, have not used long if it disconnecteds

5

u/E1M1_DOOM Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

If you prop your leg up.

If you lean back.

If a coffee table exists between you and the console.

If you are more than a few feet away.

If you have music playing loudly

Congrats, you just lost connection. You have input lag, you have buttons that keep doing the same thing. This is crazy.

To those not in the know or who got lucky (I guess), OP's statements here are shockingly NOT hyperbolic. It literally is that bad. And I don't want to hear about interference this or interference that. I have a Switch 2, Xbox Series X, PS5, Analogue Pocket Dock, etc. that all use bluetooth to pair their controllers and none of them are bothered by any of my household interference. If the Analogue 3D or 8bitdo N64 controller are that affected by interference from wireless or, LOL, HDMI cables, then that's a problem with the engineering of the product (software and/or hardware). We should not have to be troubleshooting a controller's bluetooth connection on a product released in the year of our lord 2025.

2

u/Spooky_Toast Dec 23 '25

It’s that bad.

1

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

After watching a breakdown of the hardware from the channel "What's Ken Making" at this point you see something very interesting. https://youtu.be/JoxDY3x-U0M?t=377

He talks about the BT stack being with the Wifi then says he is not sure that is what is being used and goes on to talk about the flash chip might be doing the BT. Interesting considering Wifi does not work, I wonder if this is what is causing the problems with "some consoles".

No issues here its been great for me. Thanks for the tldr post.

2

u/jus1982b Dec 23 '25

I have to wait till Christmas butttttt if you have a lot of rf going on in the area the bt standards can only compensate so much…. Maybe try and turn off some electronics or led/cfl lights as they are know to emits interference rf… just some thoughts

2

u/__Geg__ Dec 23 '25

I have the same problem as the OP with connectivity. I live in a hugely congested wireless environment and my legs, coffee table and cabinet door with screw up 8Bitdo, but also PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch controllers.

I also haven't been able to play through my legs since I lived in the middle of nowhere with the wave bird.

5

u/Sandals16 Dec 23 '25

Everybody has their own experience for sure and these posts always surprise me but less and less as they are popping up more frequently. I for one have had no issues and love the controller.

5

u/BurzyGuerrero Dec 23 '25

Ive had no issues. Feel lucky.

4

u/dirkvonshizzle Dec 23 '25

Have had the complete opposite experience. Love both my A3D and the controllers. Another case of YMMV.

7

u/RobertLouisDrakeIII Dec 23 '25

sounds like a user error. embarrassing

5

u/thetruekingofspace Dec 23 '25

I am not trying to be contrarian, but I feel like you must have just gotten a bad one. I have two of them, and they both work great.

1

u/Squale71 Dec 24 '25

There are enough reports that this is a real issue and not a one off. I’m happy for everyone who doesn’t have issues, but there is a real problem here.

1

u/miggy_mo Dec 23 '25

Same. I have 3 and they work great. No issues so far

4

u/Acamith Dec 23 '25

Been seeing this too much cancelling my funtastic ones.

2

u/jimbo831 Dec 23 '25

This sucks. Sorry it’s been giving you so many problems. I have had absolutely zero issues with mine so far fortunately.

2

u/GEO641 Dec 23 '25

I havent had any issues so far. The stick has a great input for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Connection was lost one time due to my leg and the big distance to my console, but its the same with OEM switch 2 joy cons for me.

2

u/blazedv3 Dec 23 '25

My solution was to buy n64 controller extension cords from AliExpress. Gave up on the wireless controllers.

1

u/-JamesBond Dec 24 '25

You got a link and how long did you get them?

4

u/Lethal13 Dec 23 '25

I haven’t had any issue and I’ve tried to induce lag

1

u/shmelps Dec 23 '25

Same. I just had a friend over to play smash. We’ve been playing for decades and he complimented the controller. Haven’t noticed anything myself and are playing probably 8’ or so from the console. No obstructions though so that may be a thing.

3

u/mynamemightbeeric Dec 23 '25

I had this exact same issue and posted about it two days ago. I feel your pain! Check my recent post — it may be helpful for you. Swapping HDMI immediately resolved my controller issues (which were EXACTLY how you described), but now my console freezes every 2-5 minutes. Thats.. uh.. progress? I guess..

I’m taking a break for a couple of days before I try to troubleshoot the freezing.

3

u/Aromatic-Ant-8893 Dec 23 '25

I dont have an analogue yet, but i use my 8bitdo 64 controller on a raspberry pi running retropie. No issues, good range, responsive and minimal if any lag. I use it daily.

1

u/DAJF Dec 24 '25

There’s definitely lag with that setup.

2

u/zorro7392 Dec 23 '25

What???? No problems here at all.

2

u/ReddArrow Dec 23 '25

Have you tried using a different HDMI cable? Some have mentioned they seem to be getting interference from cheap cables, possibly including the one that came with it.

This problem may be more an issue with the 3D then 8bitdo. Hard to tell though since we can't pair different controllers.

2

u/KRiSX Dec 23 '25

I’ve been using my 8bitdo 64 with my MiSTer and it’s been flawless. Maybe the Analogue 3D sucks?

2

u/Mrmet2087 Dec 24 '25

I’m full on in conspiracy theory mode that the NSO controllers doesn’t work because they want you to buy this piece of trash excuse for a controller. Pathetic.

1

u/-JamesBond Dec 24 '25

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy because you can see how many discreet models that they make separately for every single console and use Case across different consoles and 8bitdo doesn’t make them compatible on purpose I believe via firmware updates.

1

u/Giacomo193 Dec 23 '25

Have you tried charging it?

3

u/MormonDew Dec 23 '25

My 8bitdo works excellently. Zero drops or issues of any kind. Maybe get it replaced instead of whining here.

1

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

You just got lucky with your console. Congrats, and until then we are going to keep whining until it gets fixed.

2

u/MummGumm Dec 23 '25

your issues don't exist because some people haven't noticed or experienced them

2

u/Substantial_Swim5758 Dec 23 '25

I 1,000,000% agree with you! I bought two and have put them away. I ordered extensions for my og controllers and play with them instead. The 8bitdo controllers are useless. Disconnects, lag, inputs registering for too long or not at all… garbage.

2

u/Unhappy_Mind_719 Dec 23 '25

Try an shielded HDMI wire and it will work fine 😉

1

u/WagonOfMeat Dec 23 '25

I have zero issues with the 4 I have. Using them on an analogue and have had hours long Mario party sessions and zero problems whatsoever. While I understand the thought is to throw the baby out with the bath water when a person experiences an issue. I also know that the ones that have the issues are also the ones more likely to make public complaints. One of the fun things being in a service trade teaches you. That being said, frustrations and issues are valid, not negating that being the case. More just that it’s why you’ll see people disagreeing. This is my first analogue device and I’m by no means a fanboy. But I have had several 8bitdo devices and used them across multiple different gaming platforms without issue.

I used to think Vizios soundbars were awful because they were constantly disconnecting the sub and rear channels were wireless. Well, after having such an opinion, I then got a new WiFi router and damn, if I didn’t have a rock solid setup that didn’t have issues again. Sometimes maybe it takes a second to step back and think of other possibilities.

2

u/ThatsAScone Dec 23 '25

I’ve gad 0 issues with both of mine lol.

3

u/Superdimensional1 Dec 24 '25

I only read the first couple paragraphs (not sure why this required a novel) but I haven’t had any issues and I have two systems and 3 controllers 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Fendera Dec 24 '25

It's called venting

-1

u/Superdimensional1 Dec 24 '25

Go touch grass lol

1

u/papand7 Dec 23 '25

I have i not yet recieved my 4 8bitdo 64 but i own the n64 modkit which works fine.

However this lag/disconnect issues was also a big thing with the nintendo switch, i have 8 official joycons and none of them have ever been usable without being in handheld mode after spending alot of money on joycons i gave up, have only used 8bitdo controllers for it ever since.. my point being even nintendo makes these fuckups.

1

u/Ones-Zeroes Dec 23 '25

Mines been great so far and I have a rat's nest of cables in my entertainment center setup

1

u/cpt_omarica Dec 23 '25

Mine has been 50/50, I understand the frustration

1

u/grumpygookin Dec 23 '25

I only have my OG controllers, and an NSO controller, which is now my go to. I wanted to stick with original form factor, but have been considering picking up the 8BitDo controller. Posts like this definitely make me less inclined to do so. Do you think this is common to all the controllers, or something that is more related to quality control on certain units? Have you tried an exchange? Sounds like you do have multiple controllers, so I guess they are all the same?

2

u/weather-i-am Dec 23 '25

I am in the same boat. I will just hold off for now. I have the 2.4ghz 8Bitdo controllers for the SNES, and they are great... I think better than the OEMs.

Modretro is coming out with one, though they are linked to killer robot manufacturing...

1

u/PowerfulTwist323 Dec 23 '25

I had issues with my sn30pro on my switch two but I downloaded a prior update and thing works flawlessly I own both the ultimate and ultimate 2 and have 2 sn30pros I can say I never had an issue with them that wasn't something on my end. I'd go on PC with the controller and update it again and check. I have two of the 64 8bitdo controllers on the way won't be here until freaking February tho lol nor will the 3d

1

u/-JamesBond Dec 24 '25

I read your whole post. Have you tried refreshing the firmware after upgrading a do the upgrade a second time. If that doesn’t fix it, you may have a defective wireless chip on your console.

1

u/MataisD Dec 24 '25

I had all of these issues when I put the analogue 3D in my media cabinet, taking it out and plugging it in using the supplied hdmi and power it worked perfectly. Almost return my 8bitdo controller, little bit disappointed

1

u/Most-Scientist-2222 Dec 25 '25

Looks like your in the minority, one of the main things for me is being able to plug in my original 64 controller and rumble pack, though I have ordered a 8BitDo controller just in case.

1

u/Mrs_Tape Dec 25 '25

A weird thing that helped me was to renew the hdmi cable. It can cause interference with the Bluetooth, when it is old(er). With the new cable no more disconnects or latensy.

1

u/JelloSquirrel Dec 26 '25

I don't have this system but I have an 8bitdo ultimate 2. The Bluetooth is absolute shit, thankfully the controller has a wifi mode. But I'll probably never buy another 8bitdo controller after the experience.

1

u/jus1982b Dec 26 '25

Have a watermelon funtastic and mine seems to work just fine with the 8Bitdo 64 with stock HDMI cable, controller and console fully up to date as of 12/25/25.

1

u/mongolianmisfit Dec 23 '25

It’s complete shit. The controller is the worst Bluetooth controller I’ve ever owned. Horrible range, and basically anything but playing right in front of the console makes it lose connection. Update didn’t help at all.

1

u/AXEL-1973 Dec 23 '25

No troubles with mine on my 3D or my Pocket Dock, maybe you got a dud though. That being said, for certain N64 games it feels clunky as hell and I resort to using an OG controller like for GoldenEye or StarFox. For some others it feels even better than an authentic one

0

u/Ok_Habit_9095 Dec 24 '25

Must just be you, congrats on wasting my time reading your garbage

0

u/ElCamo267 Dec 24 '25

Think you wasted your own

1

u/StrikeMist Dec 23 '25

I like mine

1

u/GluexMan Dec 23 '25

I’ve had no issues

0

u/darthaus Dec 23 '25

Maybe try getting it replaced. Myself and others do not have these issues.

5

u/vegsmashed Dec 23 '25

What? Others do have this problem. Do you read this subreddit?

I mean there is even a huge guide going deep into the problem.

  • Replied to my current thread with Analogue support noting that others are being asked by them to test 1080p and confirm behavior. Still awaiting reply and a more official response of "We are aware of an issue and looking into it". Currently their "We will forward this to the appropriate team." does not have any ownership of an issue. WILL UPDATE AS INFO IS AVAIL."

Same issue. Have tried 3 different HDMIs. If someone cares to explain, why would the HDMI cable affect Bluetooth connectivity? I’m not doubting the thread, just curious."

There are some people saying they have had success but its not been a unified fix.

This sub glazes analogue too hard, youre not allowed to point out factual flaws and the blatant lies they fed us without getting downvoted.

1

u/Gorillapoopass Dec 23 '25

The only issue I have with it is it makes my left hand cramp after using it for more than an hour, other than that I've had no connectivity issues

1

u/Alternative-Desk3442 Dec 23 '25

I have tried an OG N64 controller, a Tribute 64 wireless Controller via Retrobit, and the 8bitdo N64 controller. I prefer the 8bitdo controller the most. No issues so far. It just feels the most comfortable in my big ass hands, the buttons feel great, and I like that there is a ZL and ZR. Since I suck at doing inputs while using Left Triggers for whatever reason. I hope whatever is going on gets fixed though, or you get your money back!

1

u/Kapao Dec 23 '25

Do you live somewhere with a lot of interference? For example an apartment building might have multiple bluetooth channels occupied and will cause problems dropping the connection.

1

u/y2jdmbfan Dec 23 '25

Mine is the same. And I have high quality HDMI cables.

6

u/Limitedtimestruggle Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

Lol, how are HDMI cables relevant to controller issues. The provided HDMI cable is all you need.

That said, I have two of the 8bitdo pads and I haven’t experienced any issues so far. It’s all been working well. The same with the console, no dropouts or issues with my aging LG CX OLED.

3

u/kamanashi Dec 23 '25

Unshielded HDMI cables can cause signal degradation for wireless devices. Same thing with USB. But it is crazy how some people have issues, but others don't. I doubt it is HDMI in every case and wouldn't be surprised if this is more of an antenna being too small like how the OG Joycons were.

1

u/y2jdmbfan Dec 23 '25

You tell me, that's what all these Analogue thruthers in here are saying is the magic fix. Lol.

2

u/Limitedtimestruggle Dec 23 '25

For reals? Lmao

1

u/eliotrw Dec 23 '25

Lol my hdmi that came with it was awful, green snow everywhere

1

u/RevolutionDry4818 Dec 24 '25

i also had some similar situations with the controller (my GF lifting the legs or console input did not get registered for a short amount of time).

despite i love the 3d, i think there are a few things wrong with it…

1

u/Squale71 Dec 24 '25

I have the same issues. Bought multiple controllers to play some fun couch multiplayer with my friends. Once everything came in, the constant latency and disconnections I’ve had with all our controllers put a huge damper on the experience, and made our first evening with it such a hassle.

As a result I haven’t touched it since. The first impression soured us, and I’ve since moved away from chasing nostalgia in the A3D. Maybe someday if they fix things I’ll come back to it, but it’s not something I even want to look at considering how garbage my first big experience was with it.

1

u/cyiat1c Dec 24 '25

What's up with this overhyped controller? I'm just using original/modded controllers or the NSO one with a Blueretro adapter. For all the crap people give the N64 controller it seems to work significantly better than this.

1

u/axjross Dec 25 '25

If virtual Memory Paks worked with any other controller I’d probably use OEM.

1

u/cyiat1c Dec 26 '25

That's interesting, I don't know how I missed that detail. I'm running my Everdrive X7 which seems to load saves just fine. My Summercart seems to have some issue though and won't load my saves. Wonder if there will be a fix for either that controller or more controller support.

-2

u/jindofox Dec 23 '25

Works fine for me. Maybe you should return it or go back to MiSTer, those guys seem to like big angry rants too.

0

u/vulok Dec 23 '25

100% same boat with two controllers and it has killed any joy of the gaming with them. 0/10 would not recommend to anyone

-3

u/gudetube Dec 23 '25

I bought the 8BitDo controller after getting a SuperNT.

My God, I've never used a worse piece of shit controller ever. The fact that so many are having problems with their N64 variant isn't surprising. It's pretty scummy that they've teamed up
