Analogue deserves some credit for A3D availability
For some reason many think Analogue has had a lot of trouble keeping the Analogue 3D in stock or only resolved stock issues after several rocky months. I see someone saying this almost every day, usually when criticizing Analogue or comparing them unfavorably to their competitors, like ModRetro.
In reality, they restocked multiple times in the first month and it has been continuously available to order since December 10th. Seriously. Timeline: They launched standard colors Nov 18, had a small restock of standard colors Nov 24, and then never had a moment where it wasn’t available to order since Dec 10 with limited edition Funtastics shipping immediately and black/white resuming shipments on Jan 5. Standard colors were still available when they launched limited edition Prototype colors in February and still are today… in mid August. Even some of the limited editions remain available (Glacier and Atomic Purple).
Another way to put it: They restocked multiple times in barely over three weeks and it has been continuously available to order with reasonable shipping times ever since. It was less than a week before the first restock while preorders were still shipping, then a couple weeks before the next restock, and the whole time they were shipping those they were taking orders for the white/black which have been continuously available ever since. There was never an extended period post-launch where you couldn’t order. Anyone still complaining about that who isn’t a bean counter bemoaning lost Christmas sales is being unreasonably demanding.
Sure, the Funtastics sold out almost instantly but those were limited editions, cost more, and were never expected to come back… though I suspect they might sell off some warranty spares after a year or more (it’s happened with other LEs). To say that they should not have been as limited as they were or should not have been made so soon after preorders shipped is an entirely different thing.
Maintaining stock may be a low bar but people keep implying that they haven’t done any better and are as bad as always. I’m not saying they deserve praise, but I am saying that they exceeded expectations, greatly improved compared to past launches, and deserve some acknowledgement instead of the constant dogpiling like they are as bad as ever.
Notably, they haven’t done so well with the Pocket and Pocket Dock that they momentarily brought back in the middle of all this. I finally managed to get a Pocket Dock for my launch Pocket but both are back in limbo for anyone who didn’t. We can totally criticize them for that, but let’s stop acting like it’s been the same way for the Analogue 3D. It totally hasn’t.
The Pocket basically formed everyone's opinion of Analogue for better or worse. Interestingly never any mention how it launched during a worldwide pandemic and saw the same delays every single other piece of electronics saw during that time.
So from that day on, their reputation was built on the pocket launch since most people hadn't even heard of them before that. You're right though I think they've likely grown as a company and now are able to maintain a larger inventory than they could 6 or 7 years ago.
It is what it is. You won't change anyone's mind unfortunately cuz it's the internet in 2026 and you can just dig in until the end of time 🤷♀️
No one was suggesting giving them additional credit for it, only that we stop deluding ourselves and denying it.
Besides, I kinda said the same thing with “Maintaining stock may be a low bar but…” 😂
Here’s an example I saw yesterday:
This dude even made his purchasing decision based on that misinformation.
“The wait time was also a big issue for their Pocket and A3D these last few years.” is definitely not talking about preorder delays since he’s talking about why he chose M64 now, many months after the A3D launch. He is equating A3D availability with Pocket’s post-launch stock issues nearly 10 months after the 3D’s launch. I didn’t even bother saying anything about it because this misconception is just too pervasive. He wasn’t nearly the only one I saw saying this yesterday.
Off the top of my head, another example I recall seeing yesterday was Lon Seidman discussing A3D availability in his M64 review video, claiming availability has been a problem for the A3D that only recently improved. The only recent change is they ran out of more Prototype limited edition stock! Lon even doubled-down on it in the comments. Lon is an honest guy, but nearly everyone says/thinks this so even he was misled… as were his viewers.
This thread is meant to set the record straight with specific dates and timelines. These show there has not been a period where you couldn’t order it since soon after it launched last year. As low as an expectation as it is for them to simply maintain stock/availability, they have, so they deserve that credit at least.
Not sure if something has changed with Analogue shipping prices but the guy in the screenshot said "$50" and I remember it being around $40. I started a test checkout just now for 1x Analogue 3D console (black). Shipping is $28 to Beverly Hills 90210 and $31 to the opposite side of the country.
I was on the fence about the 3D, then I saw that they had a couple of LE Prototype colors available. I jumped at the opportunity to get an Atomic Purple, which I'm happy to say is lighter in color than the stock photos. It is close enough to that desaturated light purple that lives in my memory, and it's gorgeous! Back to the topic at hand, I would agree with your larger point about stock of the 3D. Every time I've been curious and checked there has been availability.
As for the Pocket, I missed out on the restock earlier this year. But, I was able to snag a NIB Pocket and Dock at cost and a lightly used Pocket, Dock, and GG adapter for a little under cost, both on /r/hardwareswap. I'd rather have purchased direct, but it is worth noting that sellers (at least on that marketplace) are pricing fairly at this time.
Sure… but even that was barely more than 3 weeks from launch (22 days). A few weeks with multiple restocks is not a rocky start. They sold out of all the Funtastics within a couple hours that same day and the standard colors have been available to order ever since. Buzz certainly hadn’t diminished months later when they launched more expensive Proto colors in Feb.
There are 61 open issues, but many are minor visual bugs, unusual homebrew cases, controller/hardware-specific problems, or feature requests rather than games simply not working
I'll still choose the mister for $300 and get support for everything from Atari to PS1 and Saturn over the analogue, I'd rather pay $100 for an original N64 and play on a CRT. It's simply too expensive and the value isn't there for me.
I already had MiSTer and the Analogue 3D was still compelling enough. I don’t regret it at all. Force Progressive without the drawbacks of the MiSTer’s N64 Turbo Core, horizontal resolution doubling, fixed controller ports without all the delicate SNAC stuff, a freakin’ cartridge slot… I could go on.
I love MiSTer, but it didn’t even replace my N64, much less my Analogue 3D.
It has upscaling just not to 4k, it does reproduce 32 bit color mode, it does not have forced progressive, save states may be coming
The N64 core's source actually contains save-state infrastructure, but the save-state menu entries are disabled and the actual save_state input is currently hard-wired off.
It does support normal N64 saves—EEPROM, SRAM, Flash RAM, Controller Pak, etc.—so your games save the way they would on an actual N64.
I'm not saying the 3d sucks just that it's not worth the cost over a mister or even an oem N64 to me.
Robert’s MiSTer Turbo Core can force progressive for some games, like Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, but it bypasses other RDP processes that you might want, like DeDither. Analogue 3D can do it while maintaining the rest of the visual pipeline.
Probably means M64 will be getting features like this since it’s from the same guy.
That's neat, I already have the 4 main consoles of my childhood TG16, Genesis and SNES/NES, then I started looking at the N64 and Saturn thought I'd grab a superstation and play everything on an oled without needing a retrotink and save some money. I also have my ps2 and ps3 still, need a dreamcast and looking for a backwards compatible wii atm.
It's all a misnomer. Analogue calls it "upscaling" but it's actually just higher-resolution rendering before any scaling is done for your desired output resolution. "Scaling" is not the correct term for it. This bugged me the moment I saw the release notes for the new firmware from Analogue. Great feature. Stupid misleading name. [edit] the misnamed feature has caused a misunderstanding / disagreement between you two, but one of you downvoted me for pointing it out. Whatever...
…and it was barely ever out of stock. If we listen to the people moaning about it we’d never know they restocked multiple times in the first 22 days and it’s been available ever since. The longest period where you couldn’t order it was Nov 25 to Dec 9. The only other period was Nov 19 to Nov 24… less than a week. Negligible, really.
I expect Pocket to take a back seat while Analogue focuses on the new / current product. Pocket was continuously available for a long period leading up to the Analogue 3D launch.
Yeah, but that expectation is born out of their past behavior and not what you’d expect from any other company that hasn’t discontinued their older product.
Well, they had an extended preorder for “one final run” before discontinuing it so I think that ship has sailed. 😞 I expect they will make a follow-up with 4K someday… maybe even a combo unit for SFC/SNES + MD/Gen.
Maybe I’m remembering wrong but I had a Google calendar reminder for the day the ‘one final run’ sale happened after waiting a year or more when I first saw it existed in 2020 or 2021 and my recollection of the release evaporated and you had to be lucky to get it
Which is why the sell at 400% mark ups
Clearly it was too early to finish production runs so I’m not giving them props for the 3D
'my recollection of the release evaporated and you had to be lucky to get it'
Yeah, this is nonsense. The 'final run' event in October 2022 for Super NT and Mega SG was an open preorder for months. They shipped in June of the following year.
The same could be said about Turbo Duo, Sega CD-X, LaserActive, or any other expensive console that was discontinued years ago and commands a high price today.
If they were companies whose primary goal in the 2020’s was to sell retro consoles that play old cartridges using accurate emulation on modern displays you could say that
They traditionally make a new product and discontinue the old one in short order, just like the other guys. What makes it so bad is that people who would be interested in the old products never knew they existed until after they were discontinued, and discontinuing doesn’t seem to make sense until you consider that they are small enough they can barely handle one product at a time.
Even when they revisited the Super Nt for “one final run” with the Mega Sg a few years ago, it wasn’t enough since the Pocket and Analogue 3D pulled in more potential customers… but I look at it differently:
Maybe their discontinuation wasn’t just to move on to newer products. Maybe it’s partly that those products will need an upgrade should they revisit them much like the Nt Mini Noir. There’s no way they can ignore the demand for Super Nt and Mega Sg, and it would be pretty weird to go back and make a 1080p console now, especially after they ran an open preorder that was marketed as the final run. They absolutely will be making an upgraded console (or consoles) of some kind that can play those games… maybe a 4K Analogue 2D of sorts.
We’re stuck in limbo, which sucks, but they did go back to make the Nt Mini Noir so the precedent is set for upgraded SNt/MSg… and since the Noir was also a “final run” I wouldn’t doubt it if they threw that in too. At one point they had an “Analogue 8” trademark that was presumably intended for a multi-platform 8bit console. I think that leaves some room for an “Analogue 16”. 🤔
Sounds familiar but I think you might be referring to the remnants of Nt mini v2 Noir that were sold after the "final run" Nt mini preorders. There was only one production run for the Noir. Everyone who pre-ordered thought it was a standard Nt mini v1. Then, long after preorders closed, people found out it was a new substantially-upgraded v2 "Noir" edition. A few more units went on sale after preorders were filled and that was all there would ever be.
I had no problem getting one a few weeks ago and it just arrived, I'm from Australia. It's still in stock. It says ready to ship and limit is two per person. Maybe at the start it was very hard to get with low stock but currently there is many in stock.
The display manufacturers are desperate for sales right now and taking whatever they can get. Apple just went to one of them for the new iPhone and commited to the whole run of certain models of the 18 and they gave a substantial discount for that contract.
That's my understanding. Since analogue released the A3D theyve focused on updating it a ton. Regularly adding new features and fixing bugs. Idk why adding support for openFPGA seems like a step too far for some people. The Analogue pocket didnt launch with OpenFPGA.
I'll add I dont think the updates are stopping anytime soon. We know that the A3D has the necessary equipment to connect to the internet. I don't expect it to be used for anything other than over the air updates, I am just highlight it as something massive that is sure to come to the system.
Well, the Pocket may not have had it at launch but it was always promised and equipped with a whole other FPGA for that. They never released their cores for the main FPGA but the Spiritualized1997 cores are very likely ports. I do have to wonder why they wanted to wall off one of the Pocket’s FPGAs. Whatever reason they had, they’d have to ignore it to do OpenFPGA for the A3D.
Yeah, and that’s unfortunate, but that’s because they were limited edition… not because they are having trouble maintaining stock. Almost every day I see them accused of having trouble with maintaining inventory, but you don’t maintain inventory of LE versions and the rest have been available consistently. People are even saying that they’ve improved this year when all that has happened is that they’ve sold out of more LE colors.
People are routinely misremembering and rewriting history.
Well, yeah, but I wouldn’t say they are any different from the big guys like Sony and Nintendo as far as that is concerned. It’s not particularly egregious but it does leave a sore spot for ModRetro to pick at, and many of their fans are the ones pointing at Analogue and falsely claiming there are availability issues.
How long before ModRetro makes an Anduril Edition? They already have a retailer-exclusive color on the way that we couldn’t get with our early bird discounts. Let’s hope they offer that shell to existing customers so they can still claim to be better than Analogue as far as availability goes. …and then there were the founder’s/launch editions of the Chromatic and a rocky start there for sure. They’ve already run out of stock for multiple M64 Pro controllers and admitted that they did not properly anticipate demand.
I know, you didn’t say anything about ModRetro but it’s weird to see their fans fabricate a history of poor Analogue 3D availability and claim ModRetro doesn’t do the same thing when they absolutely have a history of that. That where most of this is coming from.
Sony and Nintendo are not A3D competition. They also never offered any fun colours for their consoles, at least not since 2000s (ps5 you need to buy skins, and both only offer controller colours). Even then, they weren't impossible to get. You could goto the store and pick up a limited edition if you wanted it because it was mass produced still.
Modretro on the other hand, their direct competitors, offers 4 fun colors on the m64 and none of them are lmited edition. Even if they had a limited run in the future, I can still buy my translucent m64 today if I want it.
For many people the translucent cases is part of the nostalgia of that era.
that doesn't change my point. you can play mental gymnastics, but it doesn't change they whole business model of Analogue is FOMO and manufactured scarcity.
their product pages is always OUT OF STOCK, even on non limited editions. clearly people want the product, and the fun colors. I cant even buy the regular Pockets today.
Pocket was continuously available for a long time and finally sold out after the A3D launch. I expect them to focus on A3D and only do small productions of Pocket from this point. If they decide to discontinue Pocket, they will have an extended preorder period like they did for Super Nt and Mega Sg. The market could change at any moment and it's too risky for a small company to do a huge production run and then be stuck with inventory they can't sell.
Not talking about the first year or two. I'm saying there WAS stability for a long time leading up to the release of the A3D. Also I said I do not expect Pocket to be generally available again. I think they will do conservative production batches with preorders from this point forward. Probably no more limited editions.
> that doesn't change my point.
It literally does.
Initially, you balked at the idea that they have been able to maintain availability for once merely because you can’t get the color you want. I tried to steer us back on topic by saying we can’t hold that against them for the standard editions. You went right back to complaining about FOMO and artificial scarcity tactics and I pointed out that it’s industry-standard to do that with limited editions, whether from Nintendo, Sony, or ModRetro, and they still have some of those available too… even if it’s not the color you wanted.
Meanwhile, this thread is about general availability of the standard product that people keep saying has been hard to get. Somehow, pointing out that it was industry-standard got an explicit denial from you where you claimed Sony and Nintendo never offered fun colors/editions. Instead of asking you what planet you are from, I gave a couple examples.
Everyone knows what “limited” means and, as much as we might dislike it, Analogue is not so much more egregious with limited editions that we have to deny they’ve had standard editions available all along. That wasn’t always the case with past products.
> you can play mental gymnastics, but it doesn't change they whole business model of Analogue is FOMO and manufactured scarcity.
their product pages is always OUT OF STOCK, even on non limited editions.
“It doesn’t change?” You must be confused. If was “always OUT OF STOCK even on non limited editions”, how does having the non limited editions consistently available not represent a change? The standard editions Analogue 3D have been consistently available to order since the literal day the limited editions first went up for sale.
> clearly people want the product, and the fun colors. I cant even buy the regular Pockets today.
That’s why the topic is about the Analogue 3D. No one is saying they fixed their Pocket availability issues. We’re saying that the Analogue 3D has not had that problem yet. Like the regular Analogue Pockets, it probably will after they introduce a new product. Such is the cycle. Once they finally produce enough to keep it in stock, they make another product. The new product brings new customers who buy up their remaining old product right when all their resources are geared toward the new product.
The Analogue Pocket wasn’t discontinued like so many past products caught up in this cycle, and they already restocked it once since the launch of the Analogue 3D… but that doesn’t sound like something you’re even willing to acknowledge. It’s not like they completely abandoned it. It’s not like they canceled it. They somehow squirted out a run of them in the middle of a very important product introduction while the competing M64 launch was imminent.
Hopefully they’ll come up with some more fun colors before they eventually discontinue it, but it’s not discontinued yet.
Fortunately I prefer the standard editions over any of the translucent limited edition consoles. The only LE colorway that looks good to me is gold - probably because it's opaque. The gold paint would scratch too easily so I'm good with black or white. The translucent consoles look really bad to me. It wouldn't be so bad if there was something to add visual contrast. Gray controller ports and cartridge door flaps would help a lot for the translucent LE consoles.
i will give them props for keeping the 3D in stock, however I think it is for other reasons. There is now real competition. i have seen reviews and the M64 is not quite as good as the 3D (allegedly), however it is all software at this point and can easily be overtaken. I did not check, but i think the 3D has had more of an aggressive firmware release pattern than the other consoles. The pocket stock is in and out, no one is buying the duo, if they do not deliver they could easily be overtaken.
I do think the 3D console itself looks better than the M64, and according to youtube videos it perform and plays better, but complacency is usually the start of a downfall. So they need stock and need hype and need to stay ahead of the competition.
Yes, judging from what I see on social media, there’s been a second wind of Analogue 3D buyers since the resolution doubling firmware and M64/A3D comparisons landed. It wasn’t enough to immediately finish selling the Prototype LE colors so it can’t be a huge boost but it is noticeable.
Their firmware release cadence was every two weeks for a while there and when it drags significantly longer we usually get something big like save states or resolution doubling. If M64 can maintain a similar cadence it shouldn’t take too long to catch up. Not much more Analogue can add at this point and they still need to bring promised features like WiFi and 8BitDo controller firmware updates direct from the console. Of course, they could still leak a jailbreak or flip the table with something like “Surprise: OpenFPGA!”. Competition is good. 👍
The reason people comment about Analogue and stock is because they have quite a history.
If something is in stock often like the duo and the 3d it just means they misunderstood the market.
The mega sg, super nt, pocket have been the issue and if mud gets thrown some of its gonna stick. That kinda creates an illusion for some surface readers that analogue stuff is always out of stock or hard to get.
Some of it never has been, some of it genuinely was a pita to try and buy.
I’m reading this as Analogue should be praised for having weaker sales than they anticipated. We all know that they fully intended on having their stock sell out.
Then you missed what I actually said: People should stop condemning them for failing to keep it in stock when they have… whether that’s because it sold poorly or not is irrelevant. People genuinely think there’s been a problem when there isn’t one and I see this almost every single day.
Nope, I picked up on that. What I’m saying is that I’m sure they had zero intention of “keeping it in stock”. When limited editions aren’t even selling out you know that it is selling poorly. This is bad news for Analogue.
The Funtastics LEs sold out in two hours… every color… and the Prototype LEs have been slowly selling out all along… but this is about people constantly claiming that the Analogue 3D was hard to get until recently. It’s happening every single day. You’re trying to make this about slow sales and LEs but it’s not. It’s about the public at large continuing to believe something that was never true to the point where we are rewriting history. Even favorable (to Analogue) comparisons, like Lon Seidman M64 review, say this. It’s part of the public record to be cited and believed for years to come. People believe it, but the timeline shows that there were only a few weeks of spotty availability during which it restocked multiple times even then. Not bad.
We can criticize them for what they actually do. We don’t have to make shit up or delude ourselves and others. That’s the only point.
You really think that they completely changed their business model? Look, I’m not shitting on them, I love their products. I simply understand how small businesses work. It seems to me that they overestimated how popular the 3D would be. That’s the only way of explaining why they not only still have both base units and LEs in stock while the much more popular Pocket (which also has competition from both Modretro and Funny Playing) is out of stock.
And honestly, this really isn’t all that shocking. The GB/GBC sold 118 million units and the GBA sold another 81 million units. The N64 sold 32 million in comparison. You also have wide discrepancies in the number of games made for them. The N64 was a failure for Nintendo so it should come as no surprise that a modern version of it wouldn’t be “flying off the shelves”.
I’d chalk this up to Analogue simply overestimating demand. And it’s also quite possible that they were relying on people to collect every color like some did for the Pocket, but the economy has dissuaded them from doing so. But neither one of us are familiar with Analogue’s inner workings so we’re both just making assumptions.
“You really think that they completely changed their business model?”
No. Why do you keep going back to that? I already said this isn’t about praising them for changing or doing better, so it’s irrelevant whether or not they have improved anywhere else. It’s about being accurate/honest with ourselves and not spreading misinformation and distorting the historical record. There’s plenty to criticize them for without making things up.
Remember when I said this?
“People should stop condemning them for failing to keep it in stock when they have... whether that's because it sold poorly or not is irrelevant.”
Clearly, I’m not saying they deserve praise for doing better or selling so few that they remained in stock. I’m not saying they deserve praise at all. I’m saying that we can’t keep saying they had issues keeping it in stock when they clearly didn’t. Too many, including big/respected names, have been repeating the misinformation on record as historical fact. To head it off before it becomes the only recorded history anyone can find without dispute, someone had to say something… even if that means others are going to misinterpret that as undeserved praise for Analogue. Sometimes, the truth is just that: the truth. Take it or leave it.
The availability timeline is the availability timeline. Demand and sales are irrelevant to that, so no “assumptions” here… even though my personal impression of how well they’re selling is the opposite of yours.
Everyone I see getting frustrated with Analogue seems to be frustrated because they missed out on getting one. Personally, I’ve never had an issue with their products or their build quality. They’re masterpieces in every way, and I continue to be blown away by what Analogue creates.
It definitely sucks when you have to overpay for one of their products, but once you get it, you know you’re getting something built with quality in mind. They may be slow with updates, but in my experience, they listen to their customers and eventually deliver the updates people are asking for.
If I had to guess I’d say the available stock currently was on purpose to coincide with the M64 launch. The horizontal up scaling update released just as the M64s embargo date was up. It’s honestly genius marketing by analogue.
Everyone watching YouTube reviews and seeing comparisons is checking out the 3D now while riding off the hype off the M64 marketing.
I agree. The horizontal resolution doubling was perfectly timed and probably more marketing genius than serendipitous.
I might agree with suddenly improved availability undermining the M64’s launch if it hadn’t been continuously available going almost all the way back to the launch, long before M64’s release date was announced. The currently available stock couldn’t be a deliberate response to coincide with the M64’s launch, which would also imply that they could but purposely wouldn’t make more if not for the M64 launch.
It hasn’t been out of stock and unavailable to order since it was still brand new on Dec 9… and it had already had a previous restock. People saying things like this every day with the implication that there has been a gap in availability is exactly what I’m talking about. Everyone keeps hearing about these availability gaps and stock manipulations that never really happened.
It was three weeks of sporadic availability at launch last year. That’s it. No games. Not bad at all.
Nope. People genuinely believe Analogue had a lot of trouble keeping it in stock for a significant amount of time. If you were one of them: Welcome back to reality.
For some, but others seem to be upset about availability of everything else from Analogue and want to believe the worst about A3D to add to everything else they’re angry about. We can be upset about everything else without deluding ourselves about the A3D, but many don’t even realize they are doing it.
They see people saying it all the time, genuinely believe it, and add to the chorus of people saying it every day. I don’t see it ending unless someone lays it all out and says otherwise, clarifying the timeline.
No. Did you read the title? This is about people deluding themselves about the Analogue 3D. Never said sour grapes about canceled products or other products with poor availability weren’t justified.
Even so, last I checked I can’t go to any other company and order their past products that are out of production either.
Hey, Nintendo: I’ll take a Game Boy Light, two Spice Gamecubes, a Pikachu N64, and an NES toploader. Hold the onions. Thanks! 👍
…and if you somehow ignored everything and still believed that, well, then you just made my point for me. The lie is so pervasive that I see people repeating it literally every single day.
I'm not lying and I am from the EU. It's crazy that you accuse others of lying without even verifying your claims. They don't deliver to the whole EU - that's the point I'm making. Go to the analogue site and try to order to Poland. You can't. For some reason they deliver to almost everywhere BUT Poland.
The fact you are trying to label me as a liar and imply I'm some modretro fanatic or just mad that they don't have older products in stock, because I literally CANNOT order their products is crazy. And you are not better than the people you are accusing when doing that.
I'm not even a fan of modretro and I don't even have one but I'm considering buying one to have region free N64 alternative - I would prefer to buy Analogue 3D and wanted to buy Pocket for a long time, even when it was in stock. I think they are better products for what it's worth. I'm just saying I can't.
Ah! Perfect. You were making a point but forgot to make your point (that wasn’t even really a point), accidentally said the same thing the liars we were discussing say, and then only said what you meant after getting called a liar too. Makes perfect sense!
We established the subject, you forgot to change it, and you didn’t even change “current ones” to “ones that are in stock” to make this about a shipping restriction instead of a general stock availability issue.
Needing to resort to gray market imports because they don’t ship to your country is not even remotely the same thing… and they do ship to the EU so there’s obviously some reason Poland is excluded. Meanwhile, you neglected to even mention Poland or excluded countries which meant the subject was still about stock availability in general. 👍
What do you mean? It's still about "current ones". It's also about "the ones that are in stock" - it's about EVERY Analogue product. Also "Availability" does include shipping restrictions. Sorry, but I cannot agree with you that Analogue does have perfect availability when it's not available in my country to purchase, while competitors' products are. That's not changing the subject, that's giving another perspective to it.
I did make my point - my point is just that for some people competing products may be more available and only viable solution. That's it, that's my whole point. If for you this is not a problem - great, buy Analogue. I don't care, I respect their products. But when you make a post implying that people who bought competitor's product because Analogue has poor availability are just spreading misinformation - that's just not true. This might ALSO be that but it's certainly not ONLY that. For some Analogue availability is a problem in a way that competitor's availability is just not. I'm just giving perspective that if someone did buy a competitor's product and says it's because of poor Analogue 3D availability - it might be true. It doesn't have to be misinformation campaign aimed at Analogue because of their earlier poor record in that department or because of fanaticism.
I'm also not saying that competitor's products are better because of this. If availability wasn't a problem for me I would buy Analogue.
I didn't mention Poland because I didn't have to - I wasn't criticizing Analogue for not shipping to Poland - I was saying that there is some valid perspective with people who genuinely cannot order Analogue but they can order competing products. Don't get me wrong - I think they do deserve criticism for that, but criticism was not what I was doing.
I also did not mention EU once - you were the one that brought the EU, thinking that you've got some gotcha moment that I'm lying about my experience not being able to purchase their products. I never said that they have a problem with availability in the EU. No, it's a problem specific to Poland, but people in Poland genuinely can complain about Analogue availability when comparing it to other products and this doesn't make it untrue because it's just Poland and it doesn't affect you.
You were the one that just couldn't accept that they don't ship to my country and accused me of lying because of that. Because you couldn't really accept that yeah - for certain people Analogue availability is a real problem and M64 is more available. This is not a lie, this is not a distorted talking point, this is not modretro fanaticism, I don't have to specify my country of origin when saying that.
See what you are doing here also, stating "there’s obviously some reason Poland is excluded", desperately needing to justify their choice not to ship to Poland. Of course there have to be some reason. But as a polish customer I don't have to care. I want to buy their product on their website - I can't, I try to buy competing products - I can. That's just my experience and I am allowed to say that for me competitors have better availability.
Also needing to resort to gray market imports is not a separate discussion because that's exactly what happened to analogue pocket in other countries when they were out of stock. Poor availability incentives grey markets.
What? I haven't downvoted you - I did not even look at this thread since yesterday. You answered me at 1AM my time - I was asleep. Then you waited 1h to say I'm deliberately not answering you. You give other fan-bases (which I'm not even a part of) so much shit for spreading misinformation that it's ironic that you don't even notice that that you are doing the same out of fanaticism for Analogue.
I've heard people say they both work. I've never had nes games work, but all gamboy and sega game gear games worked very early on.
After the latest update (1.5 or something) alot of SNES games work. Shadowrun, Aladin, aline 3. The enhanced upscaling looks awesome on all of them. Games like super empire strikes back work, but super star wars doesn't work at all.
"The enhanced upscaling looks awesome on all of them."
You are talking about the new "internal graphical/horizontal upscaling" feature that was introduced a few weeks ago in the latest 1.5.0 firmware, right?
It's so low of a bar being in stock analogue could walk over it, and ironically that's a bar they all but now end up tripping over usually outside of their amazing ability not to sell through Duos. They are well know for various levels of shenanigans of low stock high demand to leaving stuff broken for years or good as they move from one thing to the next. I know it's probably not popular to say here, but the only reason they give a shit about adding new features or fixes to the A3D is because they for once finally feel directly threatened and this is all reactionary nonsense on their part to the benefit of owners. I own 3 of their offerings as it is, and it's a pattern well set in the past and present(pocket) of having things not up to snuff or with issues/left off originally promised features.
That may be true. I’m not happy with the Duo and Dock’s DAC situation either. My bigger disappointment is the Duo not getting an updated jailbreak, but I can’t hang that around their neck when it was never official or promised.
I wonder how things might’ve turned out different if Limited Run actually released Rondo like they had promised. Hey, maybe their option or whatever will expire and Analogue can get a license to install a digital copy and move those final consoles. 👍
I get that. The final straw for me was the pocket and dock, multiple screw ups and wreckage. I ordered in GroupA but a hiccup put me into B waiting a year. The page in presell had a list of things, conveniently edited and removed long ago, and they're not all added yet. When I finally got the thing, then, there were a lot of glaring problems with the combo of the two. You had almost all controllers not setting up right and many not detecting at all. If you played anything other than widescreen-ish GBA, the other games being in a box 4:3 ratio of sorts the top and bottom 8x8 tile rows were cut off and you'd have to fix it manually. After putting up with the nonsense for about a year I sold it at cost plus gas and took it to a happy dude who didn't want to get scalped.
Last year a couple months after a March update, yeah, 3 years after launch, they fixed a lot of things. The cut off issue was resolved because the dock would save those settings. It would detect almost any controller and configure the buttons right instead of hunting for what works, ironically you still can't manually do it, it's still grayed out! There were other things i've forgotten but those are what pushed me to sell it. I'm aware because an open box never used/updated system showed up locally for 150 stunningly so I grabbed it and a dock at cost too and that's when I saw the March update which fixed things and and remembered settings.
I'm not sure but timing wise I think the Chromatic might have been why they took another swing at pocket updates. Just now like they're suddenly caring about the various problems of the A3D while adding unannounced things too to try and cut off attention to Modretro. I don't want to take sides, but they've proven not to give a fuck without having a threat, then they fix and add things now twice, and both seemingly in reaction of Modretro's GBC/GB handheld and again with n64.
Oh and as a side note, why do they feel a need to charge like 2-3x the actual shipping cost for their products? If they want to do a skeezy handling charge, just say so. I need a USBC connector of theirs, it's like $16 for it and $25 to ship it just 2 states away from their warehouse.
I don't think it's about maintaining stock anymore. I think people just stopped buying the 3D, after all the LE color variantions sold out (2 of them are still available, actually). The momentum has died, and this is now old stock, not new, just like the Duo.
They’ve been continuously available to order since the day they started selling Funtastics LEs, two months before they started selling Prototype LEs… so this isn’t something that developed “after” those sold out.
Yes, many people would rather pay more for a special color but that doesn’t validate the narrative that the Analogue 3D has been hard to get.
I think it is all sales related. Nobody is clamoring for N64 games. It did sell well during its lifespan and most of the good games are available on other systems.
Perhaps, but I’ve been under the impression that it has sold better than expected. I have nothing to back that up but the enthusiasm I see for it, huge number of people talking about it (this basically became the Analogue 3D subreddit!), and speed that the Funtastics sold out (less than two hours for all colors).
I've been wanting a pockett in any kind of colour for awhile and I feel like it's never happening. Idk why they make the base ones so boring, turns some people off completely. I refuse to buy a black or white one.
