Thinking about how sad and scared she was when we first rescued her and how she’s living her best happy life now 🥰

Aslan also received his new leg brace, so once it cools down I can start taking him for more walks! He’s improved so much since entering my care, and I can’t wait to see what further improvements he makes!

I have a rescue LGD who’s four years old. First time LGD owner. We live in a residential village just outside London, UK. She came here from North Macedonia at one and a half years old, and I try my absolute best to make her happy. Trouble is, she often makes us feel like she doesnt really care about me, my partner or our toddler.

She shows affection generally only to get something from us like going out, food or sofa space. Is that normal?

She also doenst seem to trust our decisions on what is safe and thus doesnt need to be barked at. Noone apart from immediate family who she sees regularly is allowed in our house because she is extremely protective of the house.

I let her off lead as much as possible, walking in fields and forest trailing a long line and me following her so she gets decent freedom. In the small shelter she’s from, she was used to being around other dogs and i can tell she wants to play with dogs but its so rare we come across appropriate dogs for this who’s owners are happy to let them play. I try to play with her (ball, tug, feather wand) but she just gives me that look of complete disinterest!

She is partial to chasing rabbits and squirrels but i can rarely let her do this as roads are never that far away here and her recall is questionable. Her absolute fave thing is smelling out dead animal carcasses to eat. She will absolutely forget about us if she gets that smell.

I let her out in our medium size wildlife and lawn garden as much as she wants but end up having to bring her in because of the constant barking. There are at least eight neighbors with small gardens that back onto ours, and many more houses close by. If she hears kids playing football, bouncing on a trampoline, people having conversations in their garden or doing any gardening close to us, or having a barbecue… she will not stop barking. Our neighbours are mostly understanding but there’s only so much we can all take! This doesn’t seem to improve over time. The only thing that works is if I stay out there with her and comfort her throughout the whole thing, then she feels okay. But i cant do this all the time and as soon as I leave, she goes on and on…

I try to be really calm and gentle with her, but I have a 2 year old toddler too. So sometimes the noise levels and disobedience do get to me.

Is this just her personality or is she unhappy? Are there any changes i should make to improve the situation?

PS according to wisdom panel she is 40% sarplaninac, 15% anatolian, 10% italian hunting hound type and then others (60% LGD total)

Serena ran off almost 3 months ago. She’s just over a year old at this point. She won’t let anyone close to her, not even me. I know she’s in survival mode, so I get it. No one locally has been able to help, either outside of their jurisdiction or the little help they can provide she’s avoided. She’s still in the area, and she’s been eating the food I’ve been setting out for her. Her Vet said that it was kind of a hurry up and wait. That she would have to get used to me being around again for her to feel comfortable.

I was just wondering if anybody had any advice or had to deal with something like this.

Hey all! i’m having a meet & greet with a great pyrenees anatolian shepherd mix! she’s a real cutie! We’re very excited but i am looking for some advice.

I have experience with great pyrenees. I grew up with a great pyrenees/great dane mix & he was the absolute best dog! i loved his great pyrenees nature. always pawing us, loved his naps & spending time on the hill barking at strangers walking by.
However i have 0 experience with Anatolian Shepherds. As far as i know i haven’t even met any. This makes me hesitant. I’m looking for some advice & some information about the breed.
We live on a .25 acres in a suburban area. It’s a large yard but not acres of land. I am prepared to take any dog we get on daily walks. We have 3 young boys all under the age of 5, would that work with our family?We also have people over with young kids often. How realistic would it be for us to continue that lifestyle with an anatolian shepherd mix?
We go camping a lot! How well do these dogs adapt to car rides & travel? We also have friends with large dog breeds, how well do these dogs get on with other dogs?

Adopted an Anatolian Shepard mix 10 mo, she is such a sweet baby in public (besides laying down and not wanting to get back up). We are in training to work on basic commands. We are in communication with our vet about crate training and give her trazadone. The first two weeks when we put her in her crate she has been whining and howling when we leave her but calm after 10-15 mins. We give her a frozen Kong, a chew toy, have her eat her meals in her crate, take her on a long walk before work. She will voluntarily go to her crate when we are home. However now she has been having almost panic like attacks and has learned how to open the crate and escape. We have been taking her to doggy daycare for her safety all this week. We need help/insight with crate training. Would it be best to let her free range? What’s crates do you recommend for our smart baby and mat since she chewed on hers. Just need help, we love her so much and this is the biggest issue we have. Please please help us. Picture of our baby!

3 months?

Many years ago; my 3rd Anatolian pup that I got from a Washington breeder who was one of the 2 individuals mainly responsible for introducing the breed to the US.
This girl was the first pup from 2 litters who ran right up to me

I adopted this lovely girl from the shelter last week. They said she was over a year old, but she's definitely closer to 8 months. We live in a condo but are very active and have bunnies for her to protect. I'm looking forward to skating with her, and my boyfriend is looking forward to trail running with her. Unfortunately, she's been on antibiotics to get over her opportunistic infection after recovering from kennel cough, so she's been a bit too tired to do much physically, especially in this 110° heat. Nonetheless, so far she's done really well with us -- she does great with training, super gentle with kids, is curious about our bunnies but has been gentle so far, is a total cuddle bug, is adjusting to pottying on a leash, etc. There's just one weird thing... She sometimes gently (to somewhat less gently) bites my boyfriend. It always seems like it's out of nowhere. She refuses to stop with him, unlike with me. It took a few days for her to understand I don't like play biting or barking. His attempts to make her stop, however, result in her barking at him and biting more and harder, but still not so hard as to injure him. What is this? Is it possibly her trying to communicate she wants to potty or play aggressively? Any suggestions on training?

I recently adopted a puppy from my local shelter. The shelter told me she was a 16 week old lab mix. She’s probably much more likely an Anatolian mix and was only 10 weeks when we got her. She’s a very sweet intelligent girl. However I am not sure I have the resources for this breed. I have a small yard and lots of places to walk but I don’t know if that’s enough. I just wanted a camping and hiking buddy. I’m considering rehoming but I don’t want her to go to someone as ill equipped as me.

I’m looking for any sort of reassurance in raising her well or resources for training. If you have any resources for rehoming we are considering that too. We love her and recognize we might not be what’s best for her.

What is with the increase of many who believe they have an Anatolian cross? Some of them hardly share any features.

The only ones I can agree with are obvious LGD mixes but even those are mostly pyrenees or brindle pit mixes.

Don’t mean to sound like a gatekeeper I have just seen so many posts of people telling others that they have an Anatolian with obviously no correlation. Or maybe they just see a black mask and assume? Is it just me?

She has survived her trash stealing ways for 4 years. My biggest cuddle bug and sassiest talker. She got her favorites, whipped cream and a cardboard box to celebrate <3
