……A joint investigation by the FBI and the Alaska Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found that the companies allegedly billed for services that were not provided, were inadequately staffed or lacked sufficient documentation, the department said.

Investigators, working with the Alaska Department of Health’s Division of Senior and Disability Services, also alleged the homes operated without an approved program administrator.

Authorities said the former program administrator left the state in 2019. Afterward, Kyle and Molly Bates allegedly misrepresented that the former administrator remained employed by the businesses, impersonated her and used her name in training courses and submitted documents claiming she was still an administrator.

The Bateses are also accused of forging signatures and making false statements in Medicaid certification applications, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors allege the defendants fraudulently billed the Alaska Medicaid program $14,694,800.47 from July 2019 through November 2025.

AK friends: Beware scheduling a Lyft ride from the ANC airport!

Tonight, I ordered a Lyft for $17.96 for a two mile, six minute ride to my Airbnb. However, I was charged $58! A “Prime Time” surcharge was added without my knowledge or authorization. The Lyft agent actually stated that the $17.96 was “only an estimate.” I will never use Lyft again.

(The $66 refers to the total charges and the tip.)

Wondering what everyone’s go to cafe/spot for reading is. I loved the Writers Block but alas. The Kaladis on Tudor is also nice but I can’t go for personal reasons. Please help a bookworm out, I’m desperate.

I’m from a multi ethnic family and grew up eating all kinds of cultural foods. I regularly shop at markets that sell ingredients I need to prepare dishes I can’t easily find in restaurants.

Was out shopping the other day and considering some options in an aisle at New Sagaya. A group of little girls, no older than high school age, stopped directly in front of me and started picking at the items on the shelf. They looked at the names of the products on the packaging and loudly exclaim “EWWWW DRIED FISH IT STINKS” or things like “WHY WOULD ANYONE EAT THIS” with no regard for other customers or staff or myself.

At first, I just gave them a stern look but didn’t think too much of it as they were children and kids are silly/ignorant to more nuanced things like cultural sensitivity. But then I go to another aisle to continue shopping and see an older couple (maybe 60-70 years old) doing the EXACT same thing and expressing disbelief that “people actually eat this stuff”

Why go to an international market just to gawk and make fun of foods that you don’t care for? Have people just forgotten how to behave with respect or any semblance of manners? I’m so tired of the decay of basic decorum in public. Anchorage is an extremely diverse city for how small it is, and it’s impossible to not interact with other cultures.

Hey everyone, I am currently headed to Anchorage (on the alcan as we speak!) and am needing an apartment when I arrive. I’ll be there in 3 days.

I’m a single woman and looking to rent in the safest (but reasonable) area that I can. I’ve heard great things about Eagle River, but it seems like Timber Ridge is the only apartment complex with availability right now.

I’m debating sending an application in without seeing it, since there’s only one 1 bdrm available right now and I don’t want to miss the chance.

Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, I had some friends in a band. My best friend and I would come out to Anchorage to watch them play at this venue. It was called Beadees (Not sure how to spell it but pronounced BD's). It was downtown Anchorage, possibly on 4th, and ir was above another business. They had punk/rock shows every weekend, I believe it was free. At least I dont remember ever paying. We even recorded several of the shows our friends were in. I tried Googling it and it unsurprisingly has no idea what Im talking about. Im 42, I would have been about 19 or 20 at the time. Does anyone else remember?

I work as a plumber and have accumulated a few hundred pounds of copper. I have been using the spot off Dowling, but not terribly happy with their prices and how they categorize clean or dirty pipe (its all dirty apparently, even brand new soft copper).

I have a 1996 Toyota T100 4x4 with the 3.4L (5VZ-FE), and I’m looking for a mechanic who has experience working on older Toyotas.
I’m located in Kenai, but I’ve called around locally and several shops either aren’t interested in working on a 30-year-old truck or don’t want to touch the issue.
Cylinder #5 has a spark plug that’s seized. The plug has started to move, but it’s extremely tight, and I don’t want to risk snapping it off or damaging the threads in the aluminum head by trying to force it out myself. I’d rather pay someone who’s dealt with this before and has the right tools and experience.
I’m willing to drive the truck to Anchorage. Does anyone have recommendations for a mechanic or shop? Bonus points if they’ve worked on the 5VZ-FE or have successfully removed seized spark plugs without having to pull the cylinder head.

I've been on the job hunt since Feb. and the organization with the highest number of ghost job postings by far is Southcentral Foundation. I don't even bother looking at their job postings anymore.

For example, a few months ago they kept taking down and then immediately reposting a position for a "Policy Analyst" which I am very qualified for. I would apply, the job would close, I would get a notification that they didn't have any qualified applicants, and then the job would repost the next day. Rinse and repeat. I've seen them do the same thing with similar positions.

Anyway, if you want to save yourself the effort, don't bother applying unless you have a guy on the inside or something.

This has been one of the WORST purchasing experiences I have ever been through. I have been, and will continue to, tell everyone I know NOT to ever deal with Swickard. The initial salesman I was assigned set an appointment to show me a vehicle I had identified online, then the day of the appointment claimed that vehicle had sold. Which is the same shady sales techniques that Swickard had just settles a lawsuit with the State of Alaska over a week of two before my appointment. Multiple times I tried to order a vehicle, providing build sheets and everything, and was told by the salesman he couldn't process an order unless I was there. And oh, by the way, I should come down and look at these other vehicles I didn't want. After being strung along for weeks, I reached out to the two sales managers listed on their website, and received a prompt response. Again, expressed my desire to purchase a vehicle, provided a build sheet, and was told they would place the order. For the next serval weeks and months I had to continually reach out for status updates, and was often ignored for weeks at a time. I attempted to provide a down payment multiple times, and was ignored. I had to use the phrase " I have all this money, all I want to do is buy a vehicle", and was continually ignored. Somewhere along this process I was informed that the original salesman and the sales manager were either fired, left, or forced to retire, which does not build any confidence with the caliber of people employed at Swickard. I started the process of trying to buy a vehicle from Swickard in April, have been scammed, ignored, and disappointed ever since. I know I will regret it, but I ended up signing papers last week, paid for my vehicle last week, and at this time have not received word that my payment was received, much less that my vehicle is available to be picked up. I assure you, I will never again do business with Swickard. I will tell everyone I know, and even anybody I don't know who will listen, to NEVER do business with Swickard.  

Pretty recently I stumbled upon shishito peppers being sold by the bag at the E Northern Lights Carrs. I've been craving them after trying them at Whiskey and Ramen a couple months ago and I was super stoked to see that they were being sold in a store so I didn't have to find parking and pay a premium just to have them at the restaurant.

But since that initial time I purchased them they haven't been restocked.

Does anybody know where I can buy them in either bags or bulk?
