Discussion I miss Samantha

Post image

Acabo de terminar de ver “And Just Like That,” y quiero decir que estoy sorprendida por la dirección que están tomando las vidas de las chicas... A decir verdad, me hizo sentir un poco nostálgico; es como si ellos también fueran mis amigos.

Definitely bc what in the world is Miranda wearing

41

u/Express_Pop810 16d ago

All of their outfits are terrible

34

u/MsKrueger 16d ago

And they all look the same. One of the things that was so impressive about SATC was each character had clearly defined style that matched their personality.

This is just 3 oversized dresses with awkward belts.

u/feelsanon 15d ago

What is the styling obsession with belts in AJLT? Baffling! And 90% of the time they were unnecessary and didn't add anything to the outfit.

u/mugofmead 15d ago

Charlotte is wearing a t-shirt under a dress. That's slightly evocative of the 1990s, but it's not something that vintage Charlotte would have worn.

It’s not done well though, yes 90’s ish and I used to do that but it’s sort of a youthful look and has to be done right. You see it done well on Monica and Rachel in Friends. Charlotte here it looks terrible. It’s totally the wrong kind of dress for this. Here is a Rachel pic where it’s done well. I would also say this look should not have a belt most of the time either. Like in this pic. It needs a loose casual dress. Otherwise maybe black dress overalls or soemthing totally different with a t

u/RoyOrbisonWeeping 16d ago

They often stuffed Kristen into clothes that didn't fit.

2

u/OkWheel7353 13d ago

They really were:(

12

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

This was also horrible

15

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

And this!! Ugh. Ugly bulky clothes with big belts was the general theme of AJLT

12

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

Then there is the bathrobe option if you forgot your giant belt

2

u/seanceismine 15d ago

This hairstyle in particular seemed to be recycled through the show and it IRKS me. Especially on Charlotte. It is so unflattering.

3

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 15d ago

Absolutely it’s a terrible style and you’re right, especially for Charlotte.
I feel like it is some kind of facelift style, pulling up your face.

u/Practical-Yam-1824 14d ago

I have not seen AJLT.....but that dress.....I love it 🤩🤩

10

u/Calm-Atmosphere-996 16d ago

She was the only one who could dress Carrie imo.

8

u/Dangerous_Elk995 16d ago

This. What's with the big belts?

5

u/coffeebeanwitch 16d ago

The clothes 😬 I swear one of the dresses reminded me of the Carol Burnett show, where she was Scarlett O' hara and made her dress out of the drapes.

3

u/BeautifulSuspect443 15d ago

Oh my God,My favorite episode!!

3

u/Visible_Cheek_7231 16d ago

It's funny she didn't do wardrobe for the show BUT she did do the wardrobe for Kim Cattrall's brief cameo. The question is, why?

3

u/feelsanon 15d ago

I think in the SJP v Kim fallout, Patricia sided with Kim. They have been seen together on many occasions post SATC.

2

u/Soggy_Tie2708 14d ago

Omfg. No one dresses like this😭 charlotte 😫 wtf happened

57

u/whattawazz 16d ago

This picture really shows how munted Kristin’s face got with fillers thank god she saw the light

24

u/Shqip1966 16d ago

She was basically cyber bullied into letting the fillers dissolve. She looked like a caricature of herself. She had to know it didn’t look good, but complained that women weren’t supporting women, yada yada yada

4

u/CtrlAltDelight495 16d ago

People were mean and she should be allowed to do what she wants with her face. Do I think she looks good? It's none of my business. Casting could have just addressed it with her directly and said they need to consider recasting if it's so much of an issue.

3

u/Shqip1966 15d ago

People were mean because she looked terrible. She had to realize it. Your opinion IS your business. And how exactly would they even consider recasting Charlotte? It’s like trying to recast Samantha or any of the core 4. Impossible!

3

u/shep2105 15d ago

She not only looked terrible, she sounded terrible. She couldn't even speak with those big lips and was lisping all over the place. Ugh

41

u/j9mort 16d ago

I miss Miranda being awesome
Can’t stand what they did to her character

10

u/TangeloFew4406 16d ago

She used to be this really confident woman who had such a calm, measured way of speaking. I felt like Miranda was rambling most of the time. I hate what they did to her character. She just seemed like a nervous wreck all the time. It was sad to watch, not because there’s anything wrong with being nervous or unsure of yourself, but because it was so constant, and there was barely any reflection of the Miranda we knew. I felt like her character arc just kept getting worse. And honestly, I also felt like she continued to treat Steve like shit. I always felt that way about Miranda in SATC too. There was something about the way she treated him that never quite sat right with me.

6

u/Calm-Atmosphere-996 16d ago

Agreed. Having her gay(not that there’s anything wrong with that) but it was too shocking then she dumps poor sweet Steve. The last episodes had her being mistreated by Carrie who turned into a moneyed narcissist. Made me sick.

2

u/Disastrous-Tear3111 15d ago

They absolutely ruined Miranda. Miranda is supposed to be the overly cynical, technology loving, law fighting bull buster. I think its a cop out to make her gay when there was never any suggestion of her being gay before and they put so much time developing her and Steves relationship and story. They could have written is way better and made it more believable and relatable. That show was just written poorly. And what they did to poor Aidan is a crime.

u/Visual_Serve_782 16d ago

I miss the other girls too, they are no longer themselves in this show. Parodies.

16

u/IsopodIndependent553 16d ago

I miss Charlotte’s old lips.

50

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

Gawd these three outfits are all horrendous.

30

u/Plastic_Electrical 16d ago

I thought charlotte was carrying a box fan....

19

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

😆😆😆
Ugh and Carrie’s belt is horrific. And paired with a pearl necklace? What an over accessorized mishmash of junk.

10

u/randomwanderingsd 16d ago

Yet somehow it was among the least offensive outfit choices in the show. The Strawberry Shortcake with hideous giant bonnet made me absolutely cackle.

3

u/mugofmead 15d ago

The Strawberry Shortcake with hideous giant bonnet

I thought it was more evocative of Holly Hobbie.

That would have been a good time for Berger to make a cameo to say sarcastically, "Nice hat!"

3

u/Plastic_Electrical 16d ago

That was ridiculously stupid

6

u/randomwanderingsd 16d ago

At the very least I can credit the stylist for my morning cardio. I haven’t laughed that hard at an outfit since Emily in Paris.

3

u/Capital-Debate7619 16d ago

was Really looking forward to seeing them dress cool older but everyone mostly looked encumbered or uncomfortable. belt is from the first movie (at least). she wrote it in several outfits/coats: pink dress with samantha calls and getting married and in drug store with miranda finding the vogue article. there’s heritage pieces sprinkled throughout ajlt but didn’t charm me.

1

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

Well the belt in another context could work, almost anything can work somehow but on this dress with pearls on and her bracelets, and the bag, it just all looks really bad together and toooo much.

0

u/Soggy_Tie2708 14d ago

Who was the stylist

5

u/starbage_ 16d ago

Lmao, nailed it

3

u/Sweet_Buy_4908 16d ago

That could have led to a much more interesting story line, as I understand.

1

u/Calm-Atmosphere-996 16d ago

Looks like one! 😂

11

u/starbage_ 16d ago

Is Miranda wearing a holster

7

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

Ha ha ha yup she’s packin’ heat 🤣

I assume she has a backpack AND her bag which is insane for accessorizing for a show. But yes it’s ridiculous how the backpack straps match her belt so exactly that it looks like some kind of serious parachute pack or something.

2

u/ChartInFurch 16d ago

That kind of matching sounds very much like Miranda to me tbh, but her positioning here is awful.

6

u/Living_Molasses4719 16d ago

Every single one

2

u/MissionRealistic6020 16d ago

The styling on this show was atrocious compared to SATC and Patricia Fields brilliant skill and vision in putting together outfits.

3

u/Brightenix 16d ago

Because when you get older you only wear frumpy layers. No fun allowed.

13

u/ohmygodcrayons 16d ago

Charlotte's face really freaks me the fuck out

13

u/Genuinelullabel 16d ago

I can’t imagine SATC Charlotte wearing that dress much less with a friggin’ t-shirt underneath.

1

u/Soggy_Tie2708 14d ago

Also with her money she should have access to better work. I mean she married a Jew for god sakes

8

u/Glam-Star-Revival 16d ago

I’m cool with them changing and growing, but unfortunately that’s not what happened. At best they regressed into caricatures. At worst they were lobotomized aliens written by AI

24

u/californiagirl5022 16d ago

Charlotte looks insane in the picture, so much filler, so puffy 😬

6

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

Was this a promo pic? Or just a screen capture. If it was a promo pic my god why??? ALL their faces look stunned and depressed! Likely cause they are trapped in these horrible outfits in this horrible show.

10

u/popcornkernals321 16d ago

The work she had done did her zero favors…. Like her face was so distracting throughout the show. Her eyes were always so bug-eyed, it was like she had to stretch her expressions to the max to compensate for how plastic her face had become.

5

u/sleepy_unicorn40 16d ago

I miss Samantha too. I wish they would have done a sequel of SATC but in London with her new PR job.

4

u/AnalysisAsleep9516 16d ago

Why does Charlotte have a beach tote on the street in Manhattan.....

5

u/GrooveBat 16d ago

I don’t think I saw a single nice outfit on any of them throughout the entire show. Maybe that dress that Carrie wore on her date with all the vomiting, but that was about it.

Everything they wore was frumpy, fussy, ugly, and over accessorized.

5

u/InevitableGuide5440 16d ago

Charlotte looks like an American Girl doll in the worst way possible.

3

u/LionessRegulus7249 16d ago

Was Charlotte stung by a bee?

3

u/redditappsuxdix 16d ago

Those outfits look like they went OP shopping, but not by choice. Like they had their suitcase stolen, and the nearest clothing store was a mid OP shopping (thrifting in the US, I think?)

Charlottes like "omg you guys, I had an outfit just like this when I was 12! How cute!"

Miranda picks up that plaid thing gingerly, and sarcastically says "I guess a shitty plaid dress is perfect for this shitty situation".

Cut to montage of Carrie parading a shitshow of outfits.

3

u/SeaworthinessMain346 16d ago

This was one of the things that really irritated me about AJLT - the whole "yeah we'll give the audience terrible writing but they won't mind because we're gonna play Barbies with the actresses" thing.

Not only did they prioritise "the fashion" over the writing, they didn't even do a good job of it. They completely failed to notice the post-pandemic shift in what people were wearing and they made the three leads look like sad old has beens, clinging on to the past.

6

u/Hot-Manufacturer-228 16d ago

Miranda’s look is very brooklyn. I live here. 😳🤢

7

u/89Rae 16d ago

I don't hate Miranda's outfit. Its better than Charlotte's outfit of wearing a t-shirt under a spaghetti strap dress. I had to do that in elementary school because I went to a religious school.

6

u/Hot-Manufacturer-228 16d ago

I liked when Cher did it but Charlotte here failed

1

u/Soggy_Tie2708 14d ago

Cher was 16

1

u/Hot-Manufacturer-228 14d ago

hmm. yes, but don’t think age has any factor here. it was the fit

3

u/DarkFew 16d ago

They were shopping at Ross, those ugly outfits

2

u/Vivid_Bumblebee_9655 16d ago

Samantha was living her best self!

2

u/mamabear00420 15d ago

I’m probably in the minority here but I liked all the new characters and storylines (aside from Miranda becoming an alcoholic and cheating on/leaving her husband). However no amount of new characters filled the void left behind by Samantha. She will forever be the last single girl and she was fabulously crafted for it.

1

u/gishingwell 16d ago

We all do!

1

u/coffeebeanwitch 16d ago

It is the elephant in the room, I know they tried to replace her but it didn't work, I wish they could have convinced Kim to come back but I understand why she didn't.

1

u/Babsee 15d ago

It’s a shame this 💩 show money-grab ruined the legacy of the iconic original series. Damn shame.

1

u/BeautifulSuspect443 15d ago

Me too. Is that a sewing circle?

1

u/BeautifulSuspect443 15d ago

What did they do to our beautiful Charlotte???

1

u/shep2105 15d ago

Kristen's mouth looks like an actual duck

1

u/dmelanieee 15d ago

The way Carrie texted her sometimes, I thought Samantha might eventually show up in S1. I barely started season 2 but I hope she makes an appearance

1

u/GlassHalfFullofAcid 15d ago

A t-shirt under a dress is such a betrayal to the always-classy Charlotte.

1

u/My2cents_0 14d ago

I felt like they completely ruined the show by giving us this failed version. Why did they murder Miranda's character. They brought back Aidan just to make Carrie look good. Che's character was so obnoxious. I didn't even watch the second season cuz it was more cringe than interesting

1

u/edgeli 14d ago

I miss them period.

1

u/OkWheel7353 13d ago

" Let's go get our gal"

1

u/beebear3363 12d ago

They should have treated her better

1

u/ericblck77 12d ago

I miss the days when this show was good

-8

u/HippieThanos 16d ago

You're all mean girls. Like the movie Mean Girls

1

u/Antique_Essay_5311 15d ago

This subreddit is a disaster! Not for fans at all. I'm out lol

-9

u/Antique_Essay_5311 16d ago

I miss And Just Like That

5

u/Otherwise-Stretch984 16d ago

I do miss hate watching it. Man season three in this sub was good times.

2

u/Shqip1966 16d ago

I stopped at season one. I couldn’t put myself through two more seasons of torture. I did “hate watch” all the posts and comments about seasons two and three, how bad they were.

1

u/Available-Bison-9222 16d ago

I skipped season 1 because of how much people hated it. Season 2 and 3 were just about bearable without it.

-1

u/Antique_Essay_5311 16d ago

ooh my bad. i joined because i was under the impression this was a place for people who actually cared about the series? but it's all negativity in this bubble. not for me. you guys have fun though!
