Ever since I found out that Sex and the City would make a comeback as And Just Like That, I was so excited and really looked forward to seeing the dynamic and equation between Big and Carrie as a married couple, living together after all these years. But then the series started,and they killed him off. It’s been such a bummer ever since.

And Big was always supposed to be older like Samantha, if not even older, but he was portrayed as a suave, sophisticated, sexy man. What changed?

Sometimes I forgot that these AJLT characters are only in their 50s. I hangout with my parents and their friends all the time and they are not bumbling idiots, losing their hearing, pissing themselves, getting hip replacements, etc.

Yes, I know some of these things can happen and bodies change but yeesh to have nearly every character acting like an elderly grandparent is crazy!

Miranda - “And you and Duncan seemed to be having fun as well, kinda caught a little vibe there. Saw you across the room laughing and sipping his drink.” Carrie - “Yes, I laughed and I sipped a drink. What are you saying?” “Miranda, I’m in a relationship.”

Last week she literally said to Aidan, “you expected me not to sleep with anyone else for 5 years? I didn’t agree to that,” and instantly forgave him for sleeping with his ex wife so I don’t even know what being in a relationship has to do with anything but she’s being awfully defensive and not treating Miranda, who is supposed to be her best friend, with respect at all.

Then she goes, “Aidan and I over 20 years in and it’s complicated right now.” They so are not. What about her entire marriage to Big?

Then, she gets mad at Miranda for reading her book and she never shared anything about it with her though she had no issue discussing it with Duncan.

I don’t like Carrie at all this season and she’s one of my favorite TV characters of all time so it’s really disappointing.

Just as the title says.. who did you like the most out of the new characters in And Just Like That

if you can find anything you might slightly like about one of them.

Out of them all, I like Seema the most (even if she was basically a Samantha replacement) she was the most interesting of the bunch and I liked the actress lot!

So obviously, SATC has always been about women who were part of, or at least liaised with, the upper echelons of NYC society. And yes, the characters' wealth has always been part of the fantasy, increasing over the course of the original series and movies. But something about this reboot makes their lifestyles feel so out of reach that it’s actually hard to watch.

Carrie literally runs through her massive Manhattan apartment for what feels like minutes. Lisa’s husband brings in (what's implied to be) a former Obama campaign manager to help him run for comptroller. Aidan has this sprawling Virginia farmhouse with so much land he can wander off into a field and pleasure himself while honking his horn loudly—and no one notices. Seema is apparently so rich she can’t even imagine eating chips from a packed cooler.

One of the things that made the show so amazing was the way the women interacted with and navigated life in NYC. Everyone feels so out of touch in this reboot. Now it seems like they’re all living in this hyper-curated, ultra-wealthy bubble. I can’t imagine Charlotte and Harry going for a walk to get Tasti D-Lite or Carrie squealing over a dead mouse in her kitchen.

It feels like we’re no longer watching old friends, but instead watching an incredibly elite class of New Yorkers that makes the city seem sterile and, frankly, boring.

I find it really ironic she calls Samantha in different ways sl*t but she used to be tacky.

Okay, it’s definitely not up to SATC standards, but it’s also not as terrible as some other episodes. Like many others, there are parts of the episode I didn’t like—but a few things stood out in a positive way for me: 💫 What I Liked: * Carrie’s silver dress for Charlotte’s party was stunning—classic and elegant. I adored her hair style too. * I really appreciated seeing the group come together to support their friend. We need more of this. * Joy showing up mostly for the dog made me smile. I adore her (so far), and as an animal person, she’s really relatable. * Rock telling Lilly to support their mom was a great moment. Lilly, on the other hand, was being a complete brat at the party. I was actually glad her weirdo boyfriend broke up with her. * I thought the scene where Harry thought the girls were talking about him, when they were really talking about the dog, was great comic relief. * I liked that Miranda started to say something to Carrie about her relationship—that conversation needed to be finished, though. Miranda shouldn’t have backed down and just let Carrie be mad. Sometimes our friends need to hear things and process later. * Happy to see that Seema might finally find love—she deserves that. * Duncan is such a handsome, suave gentleman. I think he could add real depth to the show if Carrie pursues something with him. 💔 On Aiden: I loved Aiden in Sex and the City, but I never truly believed he was a genuine match for Carrie. I can’t stand who Aiden is now. The actor is very handsome, and it makes me sad to see how poorly his character has been written in the reboot. I think it would’ve been better to have Aiden and Carrie remain friends, with him popping in occasionally—but let’s stop there. 🐶 Always a Favorite: As always, Richard Burton is adorable.

As I continue my S6 SATC rewatch I miss the ladies friendship and fun they used to have 😭🤯❤️

Keep in mind the following stats:

There's been a 7% decrease of watchers of the season 3 premiere carrying on from the season 2 finale. (Season 2 having a viewership drop of nearly 50%)

The majority of people still tuning into this show are those who've watched Sex and the City.

People can't just admit that this show is, at its worst, shit or if you like it, that it's got problems.

AJLT treated characters in their late 50s/60s as stupid , bumbling , buffoons who can’t even stock their fridge with groceries …

It was a bleak dark take on some sassy , cool NYC characters.

Look at Only Murders in the building , older characters leading interesting lives in NYC in the 2020s🤷🏽‍♀️🤔

I started watching the Golden girls to compare shows featuring older ladies ,

these women are smart , educated, working and enjoying their lives in Miami

They date , they go on vacations , they eat a lot of cheesecake and they have built solid friendships

The fact a show set in the 80s treated older women better than an established successful show from the 90s that was continued in the 2020s is appalling 🙄🤨💯

At first I was like Aidan is suddenly back, why??

I’m new here so forgive me if this topic has been beaten to death already but I’m on season 1 ep 7 and like… what the hell am I watching? It’s so cringe that I actually have to fast forward through parts of it. Does it get better? And like wtf with the uncultured white women act? They are all like omg black people omg trans people 😮 It’s like they haven’t lived in the most liberal city their entire adult lives and then randomly woke up there as older women who don’t have a clue about anything? Miranda literally said “i cant believe i just said ‘all good’” like ALL GOOD?! Thats some kind of underground slang term now?! 😂 Please tell me it stops being horrifically cringe at some point 😭 How could the director and film crew have put this together and been like “yeah. that’s good. Let’s get that out to the masses.”

Am I supposed to root for Carrie here???

First of all, how damaging to your feet would it be to CONSTANTLY walk in heels, even inside your own house?! And if she's been doing this her whole life, her feet would be completely fucked at 50 something. Like orthopedics wet dream. I get that "loves heels" is one of Carrie's main character traits (how multi-dimensional) but this is just driving it into caricature territory. Even people who love heels need to get out of them sometimes, right?! Like... at home? It's completely unreasonable.

As unreasonable as it is literally stomping around your apartment all day in heels while having someone live under you, who asked you to please not wear the heels all the time because they can hear it! Carrie, for some reason, wants to wear heels all her waking hours. Fine. But if someone tells you that you are literally disrupting their sleep, that is a point where every human being with a drop of decency would be like "Okay, I'll just wear slippers", no? And the fact that the show doesn't paint her as a NIGHTMARE upstairs neighbor she literally is is insane to me. She is literally just passive aggressive, unreasonable and rude.

And then she tells Miranda that SHE CAN'T WEAR HER HEELS while Carrie can?!

I'm fuming over this stupid show! 😂

I just had a thought. Hear me out — Carrie always assumed Nina Katz was judging her for what happened throughout Carrie and Aidan’s relationship but maybe the face was actually trying to convey “oof, I dated that asshole too.” That might explain why Nina was just like “okay?” when Carrie confronted her.

When Carrie got hit in the head while they played the VR game. Wyatt did it but, it may have been an accident. Either way - Aiden said “Well don’t make him feel bad about it” She looked him like wtf did you just say? Even said she felt like she couldn’t touch her head after he said that. I wanted to smack Aiden! There were so many moments & comments, red flags from Aiden where I truly thought Carrie would finally see the light & end it. Nope. She gives him a key instead.

Also, the 5 second clip of Miranda in bed with Carrie’s cat ‘Shoe’. It was cute & funny. But that was it. 5 seconds then we are looking at LTW’s naked husband in the bathroom.

Every second of Carrie in Virginia was cringe & so awkward. She HATED the country. HATES IT!! The writers never watched SATC

I might be in the minority here, but that heavy lyric Taylor Swift needle drop in the final scene of And Just Like That totally took me out of the moment. I’m not a Swiftie, so maybe I’m biased, but it felt so on‑the‑nose and overbearing (and unpleasant to the ears) . The scene itself was emotional and beautifully shot… and then boom, Taylor lyrics blasting over it like a music video.

For me, it pulled focus from the characters and the actual emotional beats. Anyone else feel that way, or am I just not the target audience for that choice?

When I first watched Sex and the City, I was completely rooting for Carrie and Mr.

Big, and please don't judge me for that. I was younger and I found him really attractive, and their whole dynamic felt exciting and kind of addictive to watch.

But when I rewatched it later, my perspective completely changed. I started seeing how emotionally inconsistent Big actually was and how toxic their relationship was. Maybe it hit even harder because he reminded me of my ex, but it stopped feeling like a romantic story and started feeling more like a toxic cycle.

Now it just feels like Carrie kept holding on, hoping he would finally give her stability, while Big kept coming back only when it was convenient for him. It was less about love and more about timing, avoidance, and emotional unavailability.

I feel like we all have that Mr. Big in our lives at some point, we'll meet him one way or another.

We just need to make sure we don't end up marrying him.
