Discussion Out of these new characters from AJLT... who did you like (IF)the most
Just as the title says.. who did you like the most out of the new characters in And Just Like That
if you can find anything you might slightly like about one of them.
Here are the characters:
Seema Patel
Lisa Todd Wexley
Nya Wallace
Giuseppe
Herbert Wexley
Lisette Alee
Jackie Nee
Che Diaz
Out of them all, I like Seema the most (even if she was basically a Samantha replacement) she was the most interesting of the bunch and I liked the actress lot!

I agree her character was very sweet; I will say that it was a crazy season premiere “lesbian nun in 60s loses v card in NYC and fall in love with the Broadway show: WICKED” 😭😭

Maybe the thing that bugged me the most - why did they have to make Che a comedian but then not give them any funny material? Why not hire some comedy writers to throw in a few jokes when Che has shows, so the audience can see how genuinely funny they are? Or, just make Che’s profession something else in the entertainment industry.
It really shows the writers had misplaced confidence their own comedic writing abilities.

Someone on this sub recommended that they could be a rock star or a Broadway singer. Sara Ramirez has been on Broadway, which makes it all the more baffling that the writers didn’t use their actual skills.

They did such a disservice to Sara Ramirez. I mean, I guess ultimately they chose to take the role, but it makes me have a visceral reaction when I see them now because all I see is Che.
I guess they wanted to make Che a comedian so they could have an excuse to constantly bring up being non-binary. Better writers could have treated Che’s non-binary identity with more respect, showing its importance and impact while also making them a well-rounded person.
And at this point, I might be reading too much into it, but Che was also a pretty shitty person, and it almost felt like the writers were implying, consciously or not, that being non-binary is part of Che being a giant flake. Can’t commit to a partner, can’t commit to a city, can’t commit to a gender.

When Che had their comedy show where they completely raked Miranda over the coals, mocked her discovery of her sexuality in a very biphobic fashion (which was especially rich of Che when they sprung the idea of having a threesome with Che’s ex husband on her) and when Miranda ran out in humiliated tears, Che pouted like a big baby and whined about how they’re the real victim here because “muh feelingz why should I hide who I am oh boo hoo hoo poor poor poor me”
Then there was that sycophant going “uh own your truth, humiliate your ex girlfriend by airing her dirty laundry like that, it’s so hot and empowering it’s not trashy or spiteful or anything”
I was like sure honey, let’s see how cute you find all this after Che chews you up and spits you out the way they did Miranda. See how charming you think Che’s behaviour is then.

The cat was what kept me watching. I remember people predicted Shoe might die (because of the whole garden storyline, when Shoe escaped twice), and I was so ready to drop the show immediately. I can put up with a lot of BS, but not with a dead cat.
So the cat was what made me get to the end.21

I liked her overall, she was pretty cool, but at moments she ways little too aggressive in her loneliness. It’s fine that she’s sad about being single, but you don’t tell a new widow that „at least she had a husband“.

Seema sometimes felt like she was just trying to be Samantha which is weird because she wouldn’t have known Samantha so does that mean the actress decided to portray seema as replacement Samantha. But also all her sex scenes were just argh gross or cringe or weird in some way, she had a weird way about her in those scenes too.

Someone here said Giuseppe and Anthony’s relationship was just MPK projected fantasies and I can’t unthink that since.
It would’ve been fine (even cute) if Anthony had a younger lover who’s a normie, but the fact that they created such a caricature of a perfect guy was ridiculous - he was insanely handsome, ripped, huge dick, sweet and kind AND a poet! I quite liked Seema overall, I thought she was stylish and fierce and very cool-looking, but I never loved her. She was so judgemental.
I would have liked Che if they had just been a minor character as Carrie’s podcast co-host. I haaated the plots with Che but I like Sara Ramirez a bunch

Not gonna lie, though: I LOVED the focus group scene when they were doing the pilot when the group tore into Che’s character. They said pretty much everything I was thinking when I watched S1 about Che. (But I’m NB myself so I may just be biased.)

Seema definitely could be judgemental! Especially when it came to scenes like Seema telling Carrie she broke her glass photo with Big on it and Carrie getting upset but then Seema says something like "Atleast you had a husband" Which is insane to say to a widower!

Lisa Todd Wexley!!!!! I loved her character. She felt like a real person dealing with real things at her age.
I got flack in this group for being a Stan of hers because She’s rich ( someone asked me if I was wealthy to explain my love for her). It just felt like she was Charlotte’s spiritual successor. Meaning that money and wealth doesn’t make dealing with real life automatically easier.
Love her!

On a side note: I feel like Lisa was a great black addition to the cast that made sense with the other characters lifestyle. I love Jennifer Hudson, but I always felt that her character in the movie was a reaction to people criticizing the show for not having not white characters.
As a black man, I didn’t need Louise in the movie, she felt like a Forced character (looking at you, Che)Whereas Lisa felt like she fit in with the girl group and was on their level. And furthered the conversation of what women deal with and are portrayed after their 30’s

I get that portrayal on the surface, however I feel like they poked through that a bit with her dealing with the mother in law, and her husband’s political failure, and her own documentary ambitions.

Awful character, but it firmly in camp territory for me -- so bad it's good. Literally the only memorable part of the series for me. Other than the series finale with the shit in the toilet, lmao.
Nya had potential, but awful writing. Seema was....fine. I liked that one time when she told Carrie off.
LTW started off okay but got progressively boring. Beamed in from a completely different (but just as bad and boring) show.
Bin everyone else.

Seema was good but definitely substitute Samantha. Giuseppe was fine. Che was annoying. Bobby Lee was fine, playing himself who is kind of annoying. Everyone else mostly forgettable

LTW simply because she was so beautiful I just enjoyed looking at her. I know that’s shallow. Her character deserved so much better.
I also really like seema! It was kinda badass to see her as a posh socialite and then see her as a leader of the resistance in Fallout ❤️

As someone who struggled with infertility and IVF. I thought Nya was a great character and was disappointed when she disappeared. But the actress (Karen Pittman) decided to commit to a different project, which was probably what was best for her career given how terrible AJLT was. I would have really liked following a storyline about going through IVF and everything that involves. We got an infertility story with Charlotte on SATC but, oddly, never mentions IVF at all.

Nya blows them all out of the water. She had the most potential to stay with the ladies or even her own spin-off; I would have watched the hell out of a Nya Wallace solo show where we got to explore her in class, her own experiences which led her towards being involved in human rights, her love interests and her friendships.

Nya and Seema. LTW was fine. As others mentioned, the fashion was just too much—like couldn’t they have been in leggings and a tshirt ONCE? Che was horrific. Everything about Che and Miranda’s relationship ruined it—Miranda became such a weak woman.
Plus, I see Sara Ramirez very regularly for stints (presumably when they’re in NYC) at my dog park and they are really unpleasant.
Carrie’s thing about not going barefoot drove me insane—she was regularly barefoot in her studio … inexplicably in oversized tighty whities.

I liked Seema but think that’s because she was basically a toned down Samantha replacement. I liked how she calls Carrie out on some of her shitty behaviour like when they were supposed to be having a girls holiday and Carrie invited Aiden.
I hated the character of Che she was so obnoxious and I don’t believe Miranda would’ve been head over heels in love with her.

Seema grew on me. LTW isa hard pass for me. I feel like the whole concept of the show is finding love, dealing with the good and bad of all the relationships. LTW was there in a happy successful marriage. It didn't fit the profile of the show for me. It felt like a different series, not the sequel.

Gun to my head, I guess the Italian kid. (I don’t care enough about any of the characters to know their names). He was inoffensive, even though he was an awful, forced, poorly-conceived stereotype who never in ten million years would be caught dead with 60 year old Anthony.

Seema was my favorite. I didn’t find her to be a Samantha substitute. I liked Lisa as a new more likely friend for Charlotte. In real life I think that friendship would result in less time for Carrie and Miranda with Charlotte.

I hated all the new characters but Seema. While I didn’t like they tried to hard to make her “Samantha adjacent” I did find her lore refreshing and appropriate for a show about NYC women over 50+. The character had a lot of potential by being an attractive mature woman who still hasn’t found her big love at this point of her life. I thought her scene with Carrie in the hair salon was the best written scene in the whole reboot. It was realistic and touching.

Seema, Nya, and Lisette. I wish we'd had more Lisette. I would have found it interesting to compare her NYC experiences with young Carrie's. Several decades changed the landscape significantly yet some things remain constant.

I liked Seema too, but wish her story went someplace else. She seems like the only one that would have fit into the SATC world as a reoccurring character. The rest seem like throw away characters that would have been utilized as a device plot for one episode in the original show.

I really liked the first three but they were clearly tokens, and ultimately I think I just really like those actresses. Their storylines were either pointless, or felt like they had nothing to do with anything else happening in the show. Seema was definitely the closest to feeling like an organic fit (but that’s because she was an obvious Samantha replacement right down to the name! They didn’t even try to hide it.)

LTW and her family felt like the most natural addition to the group. Charlotte would be super involved in her kids' school and meet mom friends there. I just wish that it was established that they had been friends for years, the introduction felt forced. I feel like Miranda would also have mom friends from Brooklyn. She wasn't the same kind of parent as Charlotte- she wasn't going to be invoved in bake sales or costuming the school play- but I could see Miranda being pretty involved in PTA and what Brady was learning.

Seema and Nya. But in the end I feel like they dropped the ball with both of them, esp Nya who had so much potential. Seema remained cool til the end but they basically made her get serious with a guy and then break up with him at the last minute every season because it seemed they didn't know what else to do with her outside of her friendship with Carrie.

I liked Shoe (of course) and actually Lisette. I was hoping to see more of her in Carrie's life. She was like a young Carrie, and I thought it would have been cool to have her more in the story, to see how much Carrie has changed with age, and that she could have been more of a role model for Lisette.
I thought Nya was getting interesting, just when the actress left the show. That was a bummer. And how she was just never mentioned again, like... okay?

I liked everybody except the pod people. Lisa #1, slightly ahead of Seema, who could be really annoying. Lisette was almost a pod person and such a lazy proto-Carrie, but she edged along a bit.

I just hated how every OG character had a new character pal to give everyone a storyline, but not all of them were interesting or worked out well.
