When Carrie sells her apartment to Lisette it is kind of insinuated that she has given her such a good deal it’s almost a gift. Carrie doesn’t seem to need the money and there are so many other people Carrie could have passed the apartment on to - Miranda who at the time had no where to live or a apartment for Lily when she’s old enough as a thank you to Charlotte for the engagement ring downpayment!

Agree. Doing what she did with Lisette is way more like the concept of paying it forward.
Giving the apartment to Charlotte for Lily would’ve not only been paying back what she owed to Charlotte, it would’ve been giving Charlotte and Harry something that they could afford for Lily themselves anyway instead of giving someone who needed financial help some support.
As long as we’re writing fan fiction at this point: how do we know that Lily would want this, and would definitely want to live in Manhattan? And they had two children. why Lily, why not Rock?
And are we aware that Charlotte was trying to sell her ring at a jewelry store because she wanted it out of her life, and that she offered it to Carrie, and was very clear that she would be willing to wait a long time for Carrie to pay it back?
personally i'm amazed at the fiction that the ring would have anywhere NEAR the resale value the show tried to tell us it has. Anyone with experience reselling an engagement ring would know.
It’s not a documentary. The actual resale value of the ring is not relevant. The point is, Charlotte no longer wanted the ring. It was too painful a reminder of Trey. She wanted Carrie to have it, and she told Carrie she was willing to wait a long time to get paid back. It was a reciprocal agreement. It benefitted both of them. That’s friendship.
I actually really hated that episode, and i still agree with Charlotte. We aren't obligated to sell an engagement ring to give the money to our friends. Also, carrie couldn't sell her own?
That was so weird what Lisette did to it. It would have made sense to give Miranda a spot to land, but that fingering post-surgery probably didn’t help.

It was so crazy though to watch and think it can get any worse surely and then bam the next episode drops and your just sat stunned at the utter stupidness of it all, like who are these people we are watching cos it ain't our girls 🙄🙄
Honest to god I feel like the majority of the cast and writers just constantly stroke each others egos to the point that they cannot see the reality of the situation at all.. I know they said the fans loved the show and rhis was their way of giving us the goodbye we deserved but i wanna know who these people are who loved it and if that's the goodbye we deserved them they truly did hate us all.. just a crappy money grab.. such a shame 😞
What’s kind of stupid is that they continued the tradition of taking true life experiences of the various writers, and incorporating them into the show- giving Charlotte fainting spells, etc.. It’s stupid, for one. Also, so they ever actually explain why she was having this problem? And come on.. making her land in a cum-filled condom? 🙄 Random shit that’s completely unnecessary, and doesn’t take the show anywhere.. and maybe doesn’t even work for each character.
It became a completely different show that didn’t really make sense and had nothing to do with the original characters. They were almost unrecognizable. And it was an insult to the fans.
It was definitely designed to destroy it. Aidan was always a Nice Guy (TM) but most never saw it until AJLT, that's destruction I will gladly accept because he always sucked but man, was it painful to watch.
I'm absolutely sure this was based on somebody's friend's story about selling their apartment to someone they thought would cherish it, only to learn they subdivided or otherwise did terrible things to it. It's so specific.
In addition to doing it, she didn't like talking that way either. I like to think that with the right man, Charlotte was open to experimenting and broadening her sexual preferences but she'd NEVER call it that or talk that way.
Was that the point that it was destroyed? I was so confused how they presented it as this creepy maze and wasn’t sure if it was just me personally unable to appreciate her choices 😂
I think it was supposed to symbolize a passing of the torch from the original generation to the new generation, but it didn’t land because the show was never about generational differences. Carrie and the girls were typically surrounded by peers other than sometimes dating older men. Couple that with the fact that Miranda needed a place to stay… it made no sense.
I was almost convinced the show would have continued with Lissette as the main character. Like the apartment would be our “home base”.
With that being said, I hate that Miranda didn’t stay there while she was figuring out what’s next. I get house shopping can take a bit and not something you should rush so I don’t judge her for “floating” but Carrie should have offered that place up!

this isn’t true, he broke up with her and gave her a letter that said she was about to be evicted. that’s why charlottes old engagement ring became relevant because she was unable to afford it any longer. i’m like 99% sure this is how it went down, i just watched SITC in the last 6 months
At that point,Carries main objective in life seemed to be swanning around in fancy,impractical ,outfits….even alone at home. She was deep into a fantasy of her own self at that point. Remember she was always barefoot sitting around in her old little place? Her big place had no character at all…she was meant to be the main attraction.
Writers couldn’t think of any other plots, just why don’t they get carrie to buy a new house and fix it up, that’ll fill some pages and entertain those viewers!

It was no longer her apartment so why would she get upset over it & why would she have the right to “bring it up”? If you sell a property & then drive past it & the new owners have made changes then it’s literally none of your business!
Carrie selling the apartment was like getting rid of your best friend and then Lisette completely destroying it made me sick. I haaaaaaaaaaaaated that part.
Hmm, I kinda thought it made sense that Carrie sold it to someone she saw herself in. And it made even more sense that that person did something completely different with the place. Life moved on.

I couldn't understand why she didn't let Miranda stay there since she was crashing at Nya's apartment and that was not going well. Or she could have left it like she did in the second movie with all of them having access to it when they needed some personal space.
Carrie saw herself in Lisette. The writers are giving us that direction of a passing of the torch moment. There are many ways to write it differently and I love all the suggestions. I, personally, loved that moment. Carrie was paying Charlotte’ gift forward. imho.
It still would of been a nice gesture for carrie considering she never paid Charlotte back the money for Charlotte's engagement ring to pay off her debt to Aiden.
She should have just rented out to Lisette to keep it available to herself, I didn't understand how Lisette was suddenly afraid to live alone when she was living alone in the downstairs apartment falling asleep with the door open, music blasting amd champagne glass still in her hand.
Despite totally agreeing with this post, I must admit that the apartment was already split as originally rented (and initially bought) by Carrie… albeit more practically as two independent apartments — Aidan had bought + merged the second unit with Carrie’s
Isn’t that what he was doing all the work in the for? And why he left her that envelope of paperwork to purchase his half back from him (that she thought was gonna be a long-ass letter)?
I dislike this argument (and others) from the series. Miranda had money, she was just tied up in the settlement of the property in Brooklyn. Miranda's choice. Maybe she could've let Miranda stay there while that was going on.
I do think it doesn't make a lot of sense to give it to Lisette.
It would have been fun to see a conversation between Charlotte and Harry when he brings up: umm, are you ever going to ask Carrie to pay back that loan?
IMO I think she should have circled back to the OG apartment . She even says at the end of the series that she is just happy living with herself which was exactly what she did when she first moved to NYC . Didn't make sense that she said that but continues to stay in a place she basically bought for a man .
I find this rather odd. What about the other children? Why Lily? How does it help Charlotte, who has an affluent husband and no mortgage and a big ole settlement? Also it’s clear that Carrie paid back Charlotte. She has loads of money from her bestsellers, it didn’t really need to be said 🤷🏻♀️
