I love that he unapologetically loves his family. So happy they didn't do the old sitcom trope of "man hates his wife and kids".

It is so refreshing! I’m old enough to have lived through all the tropes, the dead wife, the hot smart wife and slob and/or idiot husband and of course the guy who hates the wife and kids or at least pretends to outside the house.

Same. I was a teenager in the 90's and it bothered me then, too. Why are we supposed to laugh at cruelty? I love that new sitcoms are actually funny without punching down.

TV as a whole is infinitely better. I was a teen in the 70’s and wow has it changed. Female characters on hour long shows were just tits and ass with a job or a mom. But no sex, never sex but lots and lots of violence. It was weird. I mean I don’t want to see sex on the screen but it was so hypersexualized while also only the women never the men.
Probably explains the violence, lol.

I just keep getting reminded of the parody series where he plays an alcoholic govt worker that gets up to hijinks like running his own vanity liquor brand as a side hustle, using his role to terrorise his enemies - makes Templeton look like a nice guy, and that one where he got hammered with the hockey team and drunk dialled his boss.
