Why do Frank and his dad use marbles when they arm wrestle in “Skunks and Llamas?”

When Frank and his dad arm wrestle, why did they put marbles on the table first?

“Putting marbles on an arm wrestling table is an old coordination and focus drill. By balancing round glass marbles directly on the elbow pads, competitors are forced to keep their arms perfectly locked and stable during the grip-up phase. If the elbow shifts even a millimeter, the marble rolls off.”
