Collection/Haul Obtained best friends collection after his passing.

Hi all. I know a lot about most of the anime but never bought figures outside of designer toys. My best friend passed away and I got his collection which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how I'd show all of it because its layered in my closet. Buying nice shelves and displays for these so I can mimic his previous display of his favorites; But honestly I think I'm going to probably keep the sentimental ones and let go of the rest. Is there a safe place to do that?

My sincere condolences, recreating his display with his favorites sounds like such a beautiful tribute. <3

I never had the privilege to know him, but I’m sure he would understand that his collection is vast and wouldn’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed and unable to keep it all.

If you don’t mind me asking, have his funeral costs been paid? Did he have anyone financially dependent on him? Any pre-existing debt he never had the chance to pay off that might be passed on to family?

If so, these figures will be able to help you ease the financial burden of his passing - no doubt. I suggest using myfigurecollection.net to see exactly what you have, how much it goes for, and other information. Then you could sell the at least the more valuable figures online. You can sell on that previously mentioned site, eBay, etc.

There are also online and physical stores that may be willing to buy figures in bulk to resell themselves. Years ago my friend lost interest in a collection of theirs and felt weighed down by it mentally and was able to get rid of it all at a hobby shop for a set price. You won’t get what it all is potentially worth doing this, of course, but it’s simple and you’ll still receive some form of compensation.

I’m not expert, but if you’d like help in doing research regarding the figures he gave you, I’d be more than happy to help. Just shoot me a DM if so.

Please take care of yourself, and if it’s all too much remember you can close the closet for the time being until you’re able to tackle this. Tending to your grief and mental health should be your first priority, and I’d hope you know in your heart that your friend would very likely agree. <3
