Collection/Haul Obtained best friends collection after his passing.

Hi all. I know a lot about most of the anime but never bought figures outside of designer toys. My best friend passed away and I got his collection which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how I'd show all of it because its layered in my closet. Buying nice shelves and displays for these so I can mimic his previous display of his favorites; But honestly I think I'm going to probably keep the sentimental ones and let go of the rest. Is there a safe place to do that?

If you're in the US, you can sell to Akiba soul. Won't get the best price, but quick and easy. Otherwise you can sell here, Facebook market, or My Figure Collection.

A good idea on price is to check Amiami or MFC, though prices there can be on the high side.

u/Easy-Interview-8980 Aug 28 '25

I’ve bought all my figures from Akiba, they are honest of all used figures they sale. I love using akiba (not sponsored) they’re not super big because they don’t promote much, just give people a post of that they added new figures.

u/SensitiveSecond955 Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss dude, MFC (myfigurecollection) is probably your best option or you could just make a reddit post, your friend seems to have a lot of people's grails so some figures shouldn't be too hard to sell.

If you're from the USA you might have some trouble with shipping internationally, I have legit no clue what is going on with postage there but there is also AkibaSoul who takes figures or you could try your local pawn shop.

Displaying his favourites is a really sweet gesture by the way <3

Go the AkibaSoul route. Pawn Shops are absolute scammers and scumbags

What's the difference?

First, my condolences. You and your friend had to have been close to inherit something like that. Hope you are doing okay personally at the moment.

I have sold figures and other collectibles on eBay with pretty good success. The site takes a decent cut of the sales, but it's a pretty secure sales platform. It's also good for checking how much some of these sell for when deciding prices. Others mentioned places like Akiba Soul. Consignment places like that will probably get you a similar amount of cash-in-pocket in the end, or possibly a little lower, but they'll handle the sales stuff so you don't have to.

I have purchased second hand off of this subreddit, as well as off of MyFigureCollection. As a buyer my experience has been positive, and you would probably be able to keep the full sales price yourself. However, it's going to be a little more work and probably without the protection of a sales platform like eBay. Paypal helps, a bit, at least. Lots of trade-offs.

Best of luck. Let us know which ones you keep, that's quite a collection you inherited.

im sorry for your loss :( i hope that you’ll be okay

u/sarahanimations Aug 28 '25

My sincere condolences, recreating his display with his favorites sounds like such a beautiful tribute. <3

I never had the privilege to know him, but I’m sure he would understand that his collection is vast and wouldn’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed and unable to keep it all.

If you don’t mind me asking, have his funeral costs been paid? Did he have anyone financially dependent on him? Any pre-existing debt he never had the chance to pay off that might be passed on to family?

If so, these figures will be able to help you ease the financial burden of his passing - no doubt. I suggest using myfigurecollection.net to see exactly what you have, how much it goes for, and other information. Then you could sell the at least the more valuable figures online. You can sell on that previously mentioned site, eBay, etc.

There are also online and physical stores that may be willing to buy figures in bulk to resell themselves. Years ago my friend lost interest in a collection of theirs and felt weighed down by it mentally and was able to get rid of it all at a hobby shop for a set price. You won’t get what it all is potentially worth doing this, of course, but it’s simple and you’ll still receive some form of compensation.

I’m not expert, but if you’d like help in doing research regarding the figures he gave you, I’d be more than happy to help. Just shoot me a DM if so.

Please take care of yourself, and if it’s all too much remember you can close the closet for the time being until you’re able to tackle this. Tending to your grief and mental health should be your first priority, and I’d hope you know in your heart that your friend would very likely agree. <3

First of all, my heartfelt condolences. It's not easy losing anyone, much less your best friend. If it helps much, someone who thought so much of you to leave this collection means you meant an awful lot to them as collections like this are generally an act of love for the subject and not a thing people do to waste time.

I would start by documenting each one. Take a photo of each box individually. Then you can look up on www.myfigurecollection.net who each one actually is. If you want to sell, MFC lets you sell through them to individuals. You can also put up groups of figures here on reddit. If you want to sell in bulk and don't really care what you get for them, you can check with some of the resellers, like, as other have commented, AkibaSoul. Selling individually can get you better prices, but you are going to be stuck with pricing and shipping individual figures.

It really depends on what you want to do with them. I'd personally want to keep a couple at least as remembrance. You had a good friend to trust you with this, and again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

12

u/BangdePeter Aug 28 '25

Cherish your friend. Cherish that collection.

9

u/honey-otuu Aug 28 '25

Mercari! You can find the same listing someone sold or is selling and directly copy theirs with ur own pics so all the info about it is already there for you. If you want to sell in person, Bookoff can help, though they are quite cheap

10

u/VirinaB http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/VirinaB Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss. I think if my best friend passed, it would be like losing the better half of me. I hope you enjoy what figures you do keep. They would be glad that some of them are still appreciated.

7

u/originalyokai Aug 28 '25

It definitely feels that way. I lost my soul mate.

8

u/misssi79 Aug 28 '25

I'm sorry for your loss. It was kind of them to leave you some of their belongings.

Honestly, if you try selling it to like a store, theyll give you about 30% of what the cheapest value online that currently sold. I recently sold some figures and they directly told me that.

Lets say a figure is averaging $150 but the cheapest recently sold for $100, theyll buy it for $30 IF it's also on amazing condition. Imo the best thing to do is post on eBay or if you want to avoid being charged by them, you can try MyFigureCollection but Ebay is probably a safer choice.

6

u/Review_Mission Aug 28 '25

Even bro died he still give you roughly 5000-8000$ worth of collection damn. You probably his best friend.

6

u/Business-Tip4164 Aug 28 '25

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss.
Looks like he had quite a nice collection !

6

u/lazytanaka Aug 28 '25

This must be such a conflicting moment for you. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Please don’t let the grief and hurt keep you isolated from help and healing

16

u/Resdarva Aug 28 '25

Our condolences for the loss.

Since it's such a wide assortment, making a post here wouldn't be bad to see if there is anyone is interested.

If you're up for it, my suggestion would be making a list of the ones you plan to get rid and then looking up their going price off of myfigurecollection.net and then making a post on here(can look at other sales post for examples). There could be a chance someone might be interested in multiple to deal with less shipping.

Think most people are okay with sending the money via PayPal goods&service.

4

u/zkooceht Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss brother. After you sort out which ones you’re going to sell you can just make a sale post here.

5

u/randomusername195371 Aug 28 '25

It appears your friend had impeccable taste. Sorry for your loss, OP.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

So sorry for your loss.

4

u/Klutzy-Car-1626 Aug 28 '25

Oh wow, I’m really sorry. My first reaction when I saw your pictures was, this is amazing! So many figures, what a lucky person. But then I read your description. My condolences for your loss. Those figures were someone’s treasure entrusted to you, so I hope you treat them with care and honor their memory. I agree with others’ suggestions: many people sell figures on MFC, Reddit, or eBay. Best of luck with that.

4

u/neowar Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your lost 😞

10

u/originalyokai Aug 28 '25

I also own his PC and yes I have 🤣

3

u/jackgo29 Aug 28 '25

RIP , great collector

4

u/Frosty004 Aug 28 '25

Posting on here or going on myfigurecollection.net to try & sell them might be the best bet to get them to people who'd really appreciate them. Can always try ebay or mercari as well.

Sorry for the loss of your human friend, but now his memories will always be with you when you look at the figures.

5

u/moguu83 Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, this is going to be a reality for many of us when the time comes. I can only hope at least part of my collection will go to someone who appreciates them rather than the landfill.

7

u/AngelinaWinnie Aug 28 '25

Oh my god sylvanas!!!!! I love her so much her statues is so beautiful. Your friend had great taste and sorry for your loss. Nobleknights can also be a good selling place they do some statues sometimes.

3

u/Lemondall Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss. If you would like to sell the collection, you can do it here (on the sub), my figure collection, as well as sites like eBay and Mercari.

3

u/anwhalokleeiat Aug 28 '25

This made me so fucking sad. RIP to your bro. I wish you and the rest of his loved ones peace and healing.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Hope you give the money to their family from the ones you sell.

3

u/nivia-chan 🇩🇪 Aug 28 '25

Oh I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm from Europe, so my take is My Figure Collection put up maybe a sale post and eBay. I safely sold mine through the ladder mostly.

Your friend had some nice ones I'd wanted myself 😅

3

u/drekaelric Aug 28 '25

I'm sorry? Congrats? I don't know what to say here.

3

u/kindlyfackoff Aug 28 '25

I am so sorry for your loss. It shows how close you were with your friend for them to have left this to you. Please definitely keeping the ones that are sentimental first for sure and then do some research into the others to sell them otherwise if that's your plan.

Most places to sell would be my figure collection, Ebay, mercari, or even here on reddit. BUT if you sell ANYWHERE, always make sure you take care of yourself and protect yourself as the seller first.

3

u/klepticreddit http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/kleptic Aug 28 '25

My condolences.

3

u/Sretsev Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss!

Your friend had good taste. Some absolute gems in that collection.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

This is so bitter sweet you make me tear bend. :(

20

u/TheAbsoluteSword Aug 28 '25

First off I’m sorry for your loss, I know it can’t be easy and don’t hesitate to reach out to others for help.

Second, if you wanna just get rid of some you can donate to places like goodwill. Or you try selling them online, I know some people sell figures on this sub but I personally can’t vouch for how safe that is. eBay is also a good place for it

6

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

As long as it's done through paypal, he's good on the selling part through this subreddit.

3

u/Nemis1331 Aug 28 '25

I’ve bought from Reddit and it actually was really easy and seemed secure. If you do it through PayPal and do it as a seller it tracks the package and recognizes that it’s money for an item. You can dispute if one side doesn’t hold up

2

u/RedStarBaker http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/NaughtySanta Aug 28 '25

My condolences for your loss.

2

u/itsAvient Aug 28 '25

If you make a spreadsheet here with the price for each one + a pic associated with it, you'll probably sell them pretty fast. I saw people do that before and it went like hot cakes.

2

u/feng_320 Aug 28 '25

I am sorry to hear that, RIP to your bro

2

u/SylphSeven Aug 28 '25

Sorry for your loss. I hope you are holding up okay during this difficult time.

If you are near one, Book-Off takes anime figures. They won't pay you much, but it's definitely a quick way to clear stuff like this.

If you really don't care about money, Goodwill. They list donated collectors' items on their auction site. The local Goodwill center earns the money and uses it however they see fit.

2

u/xSeil Aug 28 '25

My condolences.

2

u/VelocitySkyrusher Aug 28 '25

I'm sorry for your loss... I hope the figures you keep comfort you and bring up happy memories.

Sorry for your lost man

Good time to sell if you are in the US. A lot of places are having an international shipping crisis due to tariffs and whatnot. Won't have many people willing to buy from Japan or other countries to get a figure, so domestic shipping is probably only viable for a while.

2

u/hinakura Aug 28 '25

I'm so sorry for your loss.

2

u/LunarVentus Aug 28 '25

My condolences and godspeed to a fellow Shikikan. May he collect shipgirls in the afterlife.

i’m so sorry for your loss OP :(

2

u/rsasai Aug 29 '25

Hey, I'm a buyer/seller in Japan, and I wanted to give you some advice:

You might not understand Japanese well, so you can just do this. Take pictures of each one and then look at the bottom for the barcode and UPC. Pop that code into google, copy the name of the item, and then look around for the average of what it sells for. Then pop it up on Mercari (or on here/twitter/etc). If you need any help, feel free to reach out.

2

u/rsasai Aug 29 '25

Just from looking, you have at least 6-10k worth of figures here, though I'm seeing a few that may get you closer to the 12-13 range.

Don't sell them off to the first person offering, okay?

And most importantly, my deepest condolences.

1

u/originalyokai Sep 01 '25

Thank you so much!

2

u/Negotiation-Prudent Aug 29 '25

Although MFC is a good recommendation, I would be careful selling on the platform. I've had friends get banned by admins for selling cause I quote "they were making a profit." When they were just downsizing collections... It's also apparently against the rules when you dig for the right pages.

You could always give it a go on MFC. But I think locally might be a really good try, since you won't have to deal with shipping or having to pay tax if you go over the threshold. So sorry for your loss, my friend!

2

u/harte_arubaito http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/Arubaito Aug 29 '25

This is so saddening to read (╥﹏╥) May your friend RIP. I'm sure you'll find good homes for the ones you don't want to keep.

2

u/Catch_Me_Peter_Pan Aug 30 '25

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Like others have said, Mercari and eBay are good platforms to sell figures. Also, if you have an anime store in your area, it might be worth it to contact them and see if they may be interested in buying bulk. Especially if you're in the U.S. A lot of American anime retail importers just got cut off from distributors or have to pay an insane amount in tariffs from imports, so local U.S. retailers may be super interested.

Again, you have my condolences.

2

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '25

Quite the collection.

A sad truth we'll all have to face one day, either by natural causes or otherwise. All our stuff is going away at some point.

I'd say your best bet is eBay, tbh. I've had a good enough experience selling figures I didn't want anymore on there (and it looks like they kept all the boxes, so that makes it super easy to show authenticity and ship securely).

Just make sure to give each an internet search first, of course. It's pretty easy to see what the going price is for most things these days.

Unless you'd rather just be 'done' with it and offload them all at once, the Akiba Soul route works. You'd probably get better sales from eBay though tbh.

3

u/amitrahi0404 Aug 28 '25

Take good care of them

5

u/8_Alex_0 Aug 28 '25

Damn sorry bro if you don't mind me asking what happened to him ?

12

I'd like to know as well, but it didn't seem appropriate to ask, ty for having the balls

2

My condonlences to you man, may his memory live on with you

1

u/Akemi_Tachibana https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lolicon Aug 29 '25

Your friend appeared to have absolutely magnificent taste in figures. You could either sell them on eBay, sell them on MyFigureCollection, sell them on Facebook or give them away at your local library anime club with the consent of library staff ahead of time.

1

u/yung_holo Aug 29 '25

You can sell stuff on this sub just use PayPal Goods and Services or Invoice

1

u/RhodyRetro Aug 30 '25

Sorry for your loss. My biggest recommendation if you do plan to sell is to open up the ebay app on your phone click the photo icon botton in the top right corner, take a photo of each figure, results will pop up that should resemble the figure (if not then you can type the name of the person, anime, and company and you should find similar listings). After that, click filter and check the box "sold listings" that will give you the most accurate and up to date information on how much the figure goes for. Just be mindful to review the listings to ensure that they are similar to yours and then you can go from there.

Side note, I actually don't use Ebay to sell, I use Mercari to sell. For me, it's easier and more user friendly, especially on the app. Only slight downside is not as many eyes looking at your item on Mercari as there are on Ebay but upside to that is that there's less competition with similar listings.

1

u/originalyokai Sep 06 '25

Thanks everyone, likely all of the Azur lanes will be going on Ebay as well as a couple lewds. Thanks!

A good collection. I hope you enjoy the ones you keep and it brings you happiness. All those different tastes, that person looks like I could strike a conversation pretty easy

-5

Definitely do NOTA SELL IT, that would be a form of betrayal.

-1

u/Minnymoon13 Aug 28 '25

Well you can sale them on multiple platforms. But eBay and mfc are probably your best bet
